Hey everyone!
I sat up with my son this morning and ate breakfast and i really don't like porridge, so i made some... interesting faces to him when he ate it. Then my dear wife comes and tells me that if i can't say something positive about the damn food i shouldn't be saying anything. And this actually got me thinking....
What if we did a thread where you're only allowed to say good things, and not the negative? And let's make it about... The NPC's in BG2!
So here are the rules
1.) You take a dice (6 sided) and throw it once.
1-2 = You have to pick a neutral character.
3-4 = You have to pick an evil character.
5-6 = You have to pick a good character.
Now after you have done this let's go to #2
2.) Take your trusty 6 sided die again and roll it once more.
[Good]
1.) Minsc
2.) Aerie
3.) Mazzy
4.) Nalia
5.) Valygar
6.) Keldorn.
(I didn't add Imoen as she is probably the most liked and used character in parties)
[Neutral]
1.) Jaheira
2.) Yoshimo
3.) Anomen
4.) Cernd
5.) Haer'dalis
6.) Jan
[Evil]
1-2 = Korgan
3-4 = Viconia
5-6 = Edwin.
(I didn't add Sarevok as he is ToB and such a powerhouse)
Now once you have rolled your character let's move to #3
3.) Now that you got your character, you're going to tell us all the lovely things about him/her. Anything from his personality to his personal quest and to how the character is gameplay wise. And you're only allowed to say good things about your character!
For some characters this might not be a problem, but if you normally play with a good party it might be a little bit hard to only mention good things about Edwin. This is part of the fun and i'm sure that if you try hard enough you can mention a couple of good things about every character.
If you haven't played the character before, you should still try to come up with something good or positive. I mean Korgan has a beard and is a berserker that can beat face in! What's not to like about that?
The amusing part is when you roll characters you don't normally play, or you don't like for whatever reason.
So let's try this and let the dices roll! I'll add my own shortly.
PS : Kudos to the first one that rolls Cernd
[Edited] : to make this thread easier to read, you're only allowed to play this game once at the moment .

Yoshi!
Best backstory in the entire game if you do not count in the pc or Sarevok. He is always my "loyal" thief(bounty hunter) halfway into the game and is great with his katana+1 and trap skills.
Something to make the story around him even better is the "unfinished business" mod. And also lets not forget his amazing voice done by Maurice LaMarche who also did the voice for Renald Bloodscalp.
Would like to say that he is my favorite npc next only to Viconia even if he may not be super powerful and that is just an example of how amazing he is since he does not even have to be crazily good for me to bring him onto my adventures even if I am also a thief.
I have 5 and 5, so Valygar.
Dear Valygar, it's a song about your long war with the Cowled wizards.
Paranoia is in bloom,
The free magic will resume,
They'll try to push guards that keep us all dumbed down,
And hope that we will never see the truth around
(So come on)
Another mage, another scene,
Another packaged lie to keep us trapped in Asylum,
And all the green belts wrapped around our minds,
And endless spell to keep the truth confined
(So come on)
The wizards will not force us,
The wizards will stop degrading us,
The wizards will not control us,
We will be victorious
So come on
Interchanging mind control,
Come let the revolution take it's toll,
If you could flick a switch and open your third eye,
You'd see that
Tolgerias should die
(So come on)
Rise up and take the power back,
It's time the Cowled wizards had a heart attack,
You know that their time's coming to an end,
We have to unify and watch Bhaal's flag ascend
[Haer'dalis]
Well he starts out awesome for being a blade. He can get powerful very quickly. His stats are nice and he is a thiefling so he gets all kind of nice bonuses and his two personal swords are lovely for early game!
His character is unique and he truly does follow his alignment. The whole poet part and the dialogues he have with the party are top notch.
The quest you have to complete to save him and get him into your party permanently is fantastic. The change of scenery as you go on this vacation to save him are very refreshing. And the best part is that your boss can't come and get you from your vacation, because you're stuck here until you're done! There are some great loot here, including the boots of speed.
And if you feel that Aerie and you just aren't that compatible anymore, this gentleman will sweep in and save you by taking her of your hands. What is not to like about him!?
Haer'dalis is truly a great character. Nice story, personality, quest, and by being a blade he is really powerful too. I really like him but somehow i don't pick him that often in my party, i really don't know why that is.
And I do suppose she's not that bad as she doesn't go for the stereotypical style of nobles thinking they are better than everyone else just becuase they wear fancy clothing.
actually, i never played with him. i just know not many people enjoy him, so i really don't know what to say.
1. He can cast a glorious number of spells per day.
2. He is the only mage with int 18 so can learn tons of spells.
3. He has funny interactions with other party members.
4. Red is very fetching
5. Very pretty
When Cernd is hurt, I don't use any potions or spells on him, he usually die after some hours/days. SO, here 3 positive things to say about him:
- He don’t cost me any potions
- He don’t cost me any healing/protection spells
- He give me a free slot for another character after a few hours/days
So I love him for that.
Luckily, it's one of my favourite NPCs, especially in BG2. Gameplay wise, she's a very powerful cleric (not so much competition though) which only real weakness can be overriden with items. Character-wise, she's lovely in a dark and exotic way. As most female drows, she's got a very strong personality, but thankfully her romance gives the character an angle that is very interesting. Drows, especially back then when BG was released, suffered from poor writing (novels, games, fluff) that made the Drow society too cartoonish. However, Viconia is part of the same universe and a very pleasant exception.
She has the right combination of a strong exiled tragic hero and damsel in distress. She had to run away from her homeland and society, just to land into a different society that doesn't accept her, even hates her. All those cultural mental barriers start to crack with her romance and while she never stops being a strong person, she's not ashamed of her softness anymore.
Baldur's Gate 2 is probably the only instance in movies or videogames where I prefer the dubbed version over the original, but when it comes to Viconia, both voice actresses do an excellent job capturing the character.
Lil alurl!
You fill Imoen's role quite nicely until she is rescued, then it's back to the keep for you.
You have an amazing soundset, second only to Imoen's
jcompton's de'Arnise Romance is one of my favorite mod romances (behind Imoen's)
you're rich!
Let's see...
1) You're one of those Paladins like Uther the Lightbringer, from WarCraft. You aren't a bat*** insane, finger-pointing zealot, you're actually very compassionate and forgiving. This comes with age in many Paladins, but you...you and Uther the Lightbringer are what I strive to make my player character Paladins like: People who give of themselves, so that others can breathe easier, and who expect nothing in return.
2) You own up to your mistakes, and are willing to set time aside for your family.
3) Rather than judge Aerie when she asks about her path, you offer her words of comfort.
4) You're nice to Imoen!
1) you are a nice and forgiving guy: you don't mind if I slaughter all your order and your family and you won't try to avenge them
2) you won't try to ambush me in the wilderness as I walk through it.
3) you can come when I want in my pocket plane so I can summon you to get the purifyer in Watchers keep wich I can sell for a lot of gold.
4) you make a great meat shield for when I didn't know how to kill the demi-lich, you and all your friends got imprisoned while I bashed the little flying skull.
5) you make great fertiliser when will die for being imprisonned for too long.
