Probably has to do a lot with the day/night cycle in the first game. I hear it doubles enemy hp? Person I watched mostly straight up ignored enemies at night, but they probably knew the game well enough to avoid them.
And here's an initial OST draft for said game by yours industriously. Listen at your own peril.
Later on, I will muster a retinue of brilliant composers in a largely ascetic interior, somewhere. Each will reprise the sound-fragrance with the very finest melodic vapours of their own mind.
It includes Dragon Valley, and all 4 playable character (Neera Li is playable this time around). Lilac is pretty much the same, which isn't a bad thing. Carol has a pretty cool new move that is like a boomerang that she can jump to, which should give her a means to get more places and it is very useful as an attack. Milla is now able to rapid fire little murder cubes from a big murder cube. And Neera shots ice, and causes absolute mayhem with her up special attack!
The music I have to say is really quite good. I like it over the last alpha Dragon Valley Leila Wilson shared. I guess this might be the result of after FALK got his hands on it for some tweaking. Actually, it takes a while into the song to even get the classic melody of the level, but it is there eventually.
I played the level while recording for the music, and to show it off. However, it didn't seem to like OBS or something, because the framerate is unstable and the right side of the screen is cut (really, I probably just have to mess with some setting for this game. likely resolution caused the cut, and maybe I just had too much power into background tasks). Music is fine to share here I guess. It is a lot more stable when actually playing it.
I'll actually soon have to go back to the first game. I wanted to see how Milla's story mode is. I kind of hope they filled in the boss battle against her. Would love to do that section against one of the other characters.
edit: Replaced with a recording of just the song I found. It was fast that people started doing that, and it didn't take long for me to even realize how easy that would be but I was lazy to record it myself. I also hated the mistakes in the actual video, considering I actually did record the stage and really messed up. I did find out how to fix all of it, though.
@typo_tilly Great! I feel like I've been having some 2d starts of the year lately. And if this really releases this year, guess I'll get some more Freedom Planet fun later! Playing this definitely did catch my interest to go back to the first one. Kind of sad there is only 1 level in the demo. However, I feel like getting this playable demo has somewhat given me what to expect from the music as well as gameplay. And, on the music side, it makes me happy that the one song I was very crazy about could fit really well with this! I can't wait to see how that song turns out. I'll just have to hurry my way to the final level then and give it a listen
Alfonso X el Sabio is that Iberian king guy who's mostly known for having compiled the Cantigas de Santa Maria. But he also wrote this lil' song to mock his dissident vassals, and to exclude them from his May dinner party while at it
Shadowrun Returns - Shoot straight. I really liked the action music in this game. It made the turn based combat feel more... actiony (is that a word?).
Yeah, it's one of my favourite SEGA games (didn't really like the SNES version). The sometimes groovy, sometimes creepy music really adds to that game's strange atmosphere. Fun fact: Michael Giacchino is the composer. The guy who also made the music to Rogue one and Ratataouille.
I keep on listening to the Shantae songs as their own playlist a lot of the time. Hasn't gotten old yet. Some songs that were some of my lesser favorites that I still included have even grown on me. Sky Bridge is still #1 though, and I still remember my first time stepping foot into the level and I didn't move at all for a full loop of the song. Such a shame that such a masterpiece gets a level easily bypassed with bat form.

Total Annihilation Soundtrack
But the real brilliance is how it creates the ambience in the actual fight

Cardinal Syn. A 3D fighting game from the long-bygone golden age of PSX.
You have gained +1 to arcane gamedev lore.

I've also finally found the name of a particular Starbound song I've always loved.
