Speaking of killing Drizzt

Now that pathfinding trick is fixed, what is people's preferred way of doing it? Does the trick with surrounding him with four party members then kicking them out of party and thus locking him into an "NPC cage" still works? That was my favourite.

Yes. It works even with one or two party members. I can explain.

Get a scroll of summon familiar from High Hedge. Bonus points if you are C:G. Use the scroll to summon a familiar, even if you are not a mage. I won't tell you how to do THAT, it's the worst kind of cheese, but so is this trick, so let's make a cheesecake.

Assuming you have Imoen, a familiar, and yourself, go to the carnival, and steal some invisibility potions, or buy some from High Hedge again, and use the trick to read them when I tell you to.

Go to the map with Drizzt. Wait for him to clean up the Gnolls, after speaking to him ONCE. He will finish the quest and walk (read:fly) away if you speak to him again, so don't do that.

Wait for him to path near a tree, or bush. Use the pause button to time it right. When he gets near one, "talk" to him to see if he's in the right spot. He will stop, because you can't have a conversation with someone who is moving. Don't ACTUALLY talk to him, just click him, and move.

He needs to be up against a tree or bush in the NORTH/WEST/SOUTH/EAST position. This saves you a party member. When he is obstructed correctly, move in your party of 2 or 3. You can use MULTIPLE trees if you are patient.

Drink the invisibility potions/spells on all characters who WILL NOT be participating, but WILL BE obstructing him. Place them N/S/E/W to lock him in. Use your ranged weapons OR a Staff/Spear/Halberd since they REACH past your obstructions. Kill Drizzt.

If you were Chaotic Good, and therefore awesome, your familiar knows invisibility:15 feet. It should be obvious how this helps immensely.

An example: Imoen NORTH/Amazing Tree SOUTH/Badass Tree WEST/Familiar EAST.

Charname behind IMOEN NORTH, equipped with Halberd. Invis everyone, except the trees, and stab away.

Go make a cheesecake while you wait.

If the gods decide to send a storm while this happens, it may be because they want to ZEUS DRIZZT.

If Drizzt get's Zeused, then YOU WIN THE GAME, and don't have to worry about reputation loss, however, you do not get the EXP.

    ----CHAR
    ----IMOEN
    TREE(DRIZ)FAMILIAR
    -----TREE

Edit: Forgot to say you CAN kick out party members, but I really hate re-scripting them all with Xparty just to pull it off. And some people have mods that make NPCS go to an inn or something, so that won't work.

Nice trick with the invisibility potions, great for people who play with a party so everyone can get their share.

As for NPCs, the four I always used(Xan, Montaron, Jaheira, Khalid) always stay put where you kick them. So that's not a problem.

    one word: traps!

It's doable the honorable way (no summons, traps or cheese), just make sure your fighters drink invulnerability potions to avoid that nasty extra damage. He'll still hit you often so have healing potions handy. After all he's alone against your party.

I prefer the "bait and switch" method, using a naturally hasted character (either Rasaad or a barbarian).

Someone on this site posted this video:

EDIT: BTW, I love that my girl Shar-Teel delivers the death blow! :-)

you can actually kill this guy easily at level 1,:
first have at least 5 characters on your team, and one of them needs a two handed weapon, find a combo of 4 invisibility effects; potions/scrolls, have 4 team mates surround him then max them invisible and turn your AI off, if done so correctly he will be trapped, now you get your team mate with the 2 handed weapon and stand behind your of your invisible characters and start whacking him all silly like, if done so correctly you can reach drizzt, drizzt cant reach you, and keep smacking him until he falls, no sweat

but if you want to fight him without cheese, you are going to need some great thac0, he has -16 AC and I believe he has -9 thac0, so if you do the none cheese way, use improved invisibility against him, it gives him -4 to hit, and you +4 to hit, that will help, plus using some potions of cloud/storm giant strength will also helps tremendously and make sure the person he is attacking has the golden girdle and preferably full plate mail which will give him another -7 to hit, I have killed this guy without cheese with a team that had around 100 000xp or so, ( I also had 3 beserkers and that beserk ability works wonders)

Thanks Sarevok57, but your method was an abridged (TL;DR) version of the one I had posted.

The tactic underneath is quite helpful for those trying to max out AC, however.

tis be true, its just way harder to do it will only 2 characters as apposed to 4, I've done it with 3 using your strategy, but its a pain in the arse region, so I just use 4 :)

I saw one guy tank Drizzt with retaliation damage from Fire Shields. Just let him wail on your mage with his swords while Mirror Image and Stoneskin are up and he'll kill himself from it.

When I killed him, CHARNAME was a fighter... Level 9 I do believe, 1 level above the XP Cap I do believe so no real big deal there... After the bonuses of tomes and Draw Upon Holy Might, he was somewhat evenly matched with Drizzt on Normal difficulty as depending on what the RNG says, either one could win that fight...

on insane difficulty, if you fail your save vs breath weapon I believe, he will do 30 and 60 damage at the same time, or at least that is what he did in bg vanilla

I attack him with Kagain, just to be attacked by him. While Kagain runs in circle (if done properly Drizzt can't really attack him) the rest of my party, in the center of the circle, attack Drizzt with ranged weapon.

The superior method of dispatching Drizzt is of course through the use of werebears.

You really need the Benny Hill theme playing while you do that.

I kill him on the island with long range melee weapons and ranged weapons. Two invisible characters block the path to the island. Simpler and more fool proof than any other method listed here.

Really? I thought the traps work better.
  • TressetTresset Member, Moderator Posts: 8,268
@Avenger_teambg only if you have a high set traps skill which you usually don't have at level 1-3. My method is pretty simple at all levels.
