Where are all the Ankhegs?

Just went to the farm area north of friendly arm. Used to go there to score a level for my group, back in the unenhanced game. But, there was 1 ankheg at the farm. That's it? They changed it?

I think this is based on what level your party is and random spawns. The Gnoll Fortress is the same if you go down there right away, very few random spawns.Hitting level three or four, enemies appear more frequently.

I remember the game when it first came out,you were lucky if you got more than two enemies at a time anywhere.Every map was a walk in the park lol.Fixed ages ago though and spawning upgrades as you level.

Sometimes they don't spawn all at once.

Try to rest. Seems like 90% of the time you hear a frightening chittering sound coming from nearby.

Sometimes you may just get unlucky. (or lucky, if the spawn would have killed you) most spawns have a rate of %85 chance of happening.

Maybe the farmers in the region have switched from organic and started using pesticides?

One Ankheg read on this forum about XP farming his kind, and the news spread to every single Ankheg in the Baldur's Gate region.

They now avoid adventuring parties out of self-preservation needs.

Yup the Ankegs got fed up of waiting for the patch for BGEE,due to all the legal stuff, and handed their cards in.They've all signed up for BG2EE beta testing now.

I've read somewhere that quickloading populates nearby spawns with enemies, as a way to punish savescumming. So when you enter an area, quicksave and quickload, when you kill a random spawn - quicksave and quickload, etc.

Or you can just abuse the rest spawns. Quicksave, rest, if not attacked quickload, repeat.

If you want to nab a few levels like this, go to High Hedge. Rest attacks are Ghasts 50% of the time - they're worth 650XP each and are super easy/safe to kill with missile weapons because of their slow walking speed.
