The patch already came out on Twitter 2 days ago (says it's bi, but leaning toward girls, for those who missed it - parents are supportive), so BG2 it is.
Unless the new patch has some sort of super secret stuff, like free pancakes, I really don't require it. I've played the heck out of BGEE without it, and will continue to do so. In closing, @dee give me pancakes!
I voted for both, however I have to reconsider. BG1 is too hacky slashy and not enough character development. The NPC allies are all completely silent. So, BG2 FTW
Between BG2:EE and the patch for BG1:EE.. I have to go with the patch. Don't get me wrong, I'm very much looking forward to playing BG2:EE on my Android tablet.. but the patch for BG1:EE is more important to achieving that goal (the patch contains fixes and optimisations essential to the Android versions even getting released, so it has a higher priority for me)
Bear in mind that the forthcoming "big patch" for BGee isn't going to be the final "big patch" - this one is about the interface and the renderer, but Overhaul still haven't got the originally-promised multiplayer system sorted out, so there'll have to be another "big patch" for that later.
I just want to do another play through but I keep putting it off because of this damn upcoming patch. I hear it won't be out of beta till late October. I just want to play it bug free (or as few bugs as possible) before I start playing BG2EE. Of course since BG2EE is scheduled for November launch, we probably won't see it release until 2014. You do remember what happened when BGEE was supposed to be released don't you? A few days before release...'oh btw, it's gonna be another month lolz' rage ensues.
Don't take me too seriously though. I do love the EE. Where would I be if I didn't have something to complain about?
There are 0 game-breaking bugs in the current version of BG:EE - the idea that the current single-player experience is riddled with bugs is a myth (unless you count one inconsequential prologue quest, for which there is a hotfix available). Multiplayer is a different story, but if you're looking to play bg for the single player experience and are ok with the current ui, then there's no pertinent need to wait (unless you're playing a shadow dancer). There are a few bugs, but none that should affect your ability to enjoy the sp campaign.

Pretty much this, except that multiplayer bugs are vastly overestimated as well by many. Me and my friend played through the empire campaign on day one, before ANY patches were released. Some of the new quests had bugs and there were some multiplying NPC's, but other than that we had no issues whatsoever. And of course several patches have been released since then, and with the current build I haven't experienced any multiplayer issues.
Fixes to non-game breaking bugs, improvements to the multiplayer, the new renderer and such are of course welcome in any case. I still feel like the patch is a much more minor thing compared to several hours of completely new content and the ability to play BG2 with all the enhancements. Super excited for BG2EE, hoping to play through it in multiplayer starting from day one as well!

It just so happens that a shadow dancer is the char I want to play. That and the dragon disciple. I know there is a fix for shadow dancer but when the new patch comes out it is going to conflict with the fix and screw up your char. But other than that, you are right, there are no game breaking bugs. In fact I haven't had any game breaking bugs since the game was first released. I just really want to try the new classes and have them working properly.

It automatically raises your reputation to "Delicious" and sets your Charisma score to "Fluffy and light".

BG2 > Patch, but I'm glad both are inbound
