@AndrewFoley I appreciate your humor (and I'm sure a lot of other people do as well), but I wouldn't want to discourage people from voicing their concerns.
I want to apologize for my previous post. I've got a killer migraine going and it's clearly negatively affecting my judgment. What was intended to be a bit of absurdist fluff degenerated into flame territory. I shouldn't have let it happen and will try to avoid similar lapses in the future anywhere but the Don't Ask Me Anything thread, which was created specifically as a place for me to exercise poor judgment.
If Dee or one of the other mods wants to spike the entire post, please do so with my blessing.

So, just to get this straight, you are apologising for the mock "flame war" that followed your post, but not for making fun of the OP, an unsatisfied customer with legitimate concerns?
Even with the disclaimer in your avatar, you're still a member of the BGEE team, shouldn't you be more careful than the average Joe about the content of your posts?

Or what, they'll fire him?
(that's a good point, you know, they could fire him for joking around on an internet message board)

That's the thing. That's exactly what I pointed out in my post.
The OP DOESN'T have a legitimate complaint. He doesn't because things don't happen in a vacuum, the need context and he isn't applying any context to his complaints. Or rather he is but is just dismissing that context as "developer lies".
There are legitimate problems with BGEE still outstanding. And there are legitimate issues with how Beamdog/Overhaul work as a business. Neither of the OPs points are legitimate problems.
So why should he apologise for being irritated at the dude for basically calling him and his friends at Overhaul liars? I honestly don't blame the guy for getting pissy.
However he wasn't apologising for the flame war, he was apologising for his post when he shouldn't have made it.
The legitimate complaint I was referring to is the framerate drop when AOE spells are cast. It may not affect you, but you cannot deny it is real and affecting several other people. The fact that they are working on it doesn't make it less real and until the patch is released this complain remains legitimate. I believe some people may even be eligible for a refund because of it.
I didn't deny that the game has bugs and issues that could be genuinely discussed, but honestly the guys post didn't take anything into context when he was complaining which was my point.
Considering the dev dude's exact words were "I apologise for my post." there isn't really a whole lot of clarification required. But if you wanna pick over the guys post to find something to be offended about on ya go. Can't stop ya. Just not clear on what more you want from the guy.

My intent was to apologize to everone, especially the OP. If that didn't come through, I'm in a weird situation where I guess I'll have to apologize for my apology and try again.
I succumbed to my baser impulses and, in an attempt to get a laugh, I insulted the OP and, by implication, anyone that comes to forum message boards to vent. I shouldn't have done that; I sincerely regret doing so; and I wholeheartedly and unreservedly apologize to anyone I insulted with my impulsiveness. I'm sorry.
The last thing I want to do is muzzle anyone expressing legitimate concerns about the game. If through my thoughtlessness I've done that, I am sorry.
In an attempt to have some fun, I dragged the thread even further off-course than it already was, and after a moderator had attempted to bring it back on course. I regret that, and apologize to those who wished to discuss the OP's concerns.
I was having a bad day yesterday, and I took it out on some users of this forum. That I was having a bad day is not a valid excuse, what I did was wrong, and I am, again, sorry I did that, especially in the context of someone else's thread.
I am a member of the BGEE team and I SHOULD be more careful -- I fell short yesterday; I feel bad about that; I'll do my utmost not to do so again (though I will point out that I am a human being, I've made mistakes before, and I expect to do so again -- I'll try not to do so on this forum, and will try to restrict myself to the Don't Ask Me Anything thread.) To anyone offended by my thoughtlessness and lack of restraint, I am truly sorry.
Honestly, I shouldn't even read the forums. Certain styles of online communication bring out the worst in me and I know they do. But I'm part of the BGEE team and I want to be part of this community -- not just someone who reads the comments, but an actual active part of discussions I have something of value to contribute to. This wasn't one of those discussions. I should have kept my mouth shut. I didn't. It was a mistake. I regret it. I am sorry.
Online communication can be ambiguous and I know I've done myself no favours with previous postings when it comes to presenting an honest, unironic response to something. Please believe me when I say there is no sarcasm whatsoever intended in the above. I did something wrong. I regret it. I'll try not to do it again.
This thread has gone so far off-topic that I'm just going to close it. There are plenty of other threads addressing concerns with the game; post in one of them or start a new one.
We don't pay Andrew to be politically correct; we pay him to write amazing dialogue, and he does that very well. I won't have people starting a witch-hunt on his posts looking for reasons to be offended (even after he has apologized).
If you have a concern about something someone has posted--anyone, even a team member--PM me directly, rather than trying to hash out the situation in-thread. This is very clearly stated in the Site Rules; give it another read if you've forgotten.
