Thanks everyone for the feedback! I've been on a bit of a hiatus, but I'm going to start digging through these and get caught up on writing bug reports.
@Anton - looks like what you describe is the intended behavior - I don't see any journal entries in the strings file mentioning the fight, and all 4 leave your party before the fight. If you talk to Jaheira, will she join your party?
An additional comment on bug #6164, "Journal should snap to the top of the list if there are not enough entries to allow scrolling". A (related) bug can be experienced by adding two more steps:
9. Drag the scrollbar thumb upwards with the mouse 10. Notice that the entire journal text disappears off the top of the journal (clicking the "scroll down" button at the bottom of the scrollbar restores the text)
Problem with "Prism the Sculptor". I didn't speak to Oublek about bounties before going to Prism. Killed Greywolf and got the quest. Went back to Oublek and returned the emeralds, but the quest isn't moved to the done quests side.
I just downloaded the most recent update to the beta, and I've found problems with adding and editing user-created journal entries.
1. Clicking on a user-created journal entry to edit or delete the entry will cause other entries to temporarily disappear. The entries seem to eventually reappear after exiting and re-entering the screen. 2. Edits to existing user-created entries do not save. 3. Clicking on the blank spaces in between user entries will open a screen for creating a new entry, but will also cause other entries to disappear in the same way described in #1.
@Fury@Thunder I'm having trouble reproducing your issue with Brage - are you running the Beta?
Yes, when I ran into the issue we were two beta versions back from where we are at at the time of this post. I've not had time to try reproducing it with newer versions.
I don't know whether this existed before the beta (I'm guessing it did) but if you restore Melicamp before talking to Kissiq first, there is a new journal entry wihch stays there practically forever. Not very important but just to report.
@Cerevant no, she is just standing there (blue), not talking to me.
She won't initiate conversation - that's expected. Are you able to initiate conversation with her (click on her)? If not, do you have a save game you can post?
There are no quest journal entries of any kind for the quest started by talking to Shoail the Nereid in area AR3100 (South of Candlekeep). Considering even Mad Arcand's quest has one this should too probably!
There is no quest journal entry also for Mr. Colquette's quest... I know that you don't know at first about the gem, so no mention of it, but something like "I had a talk with a certain Mr. Colquette in Beregost. He seems a little troubled not to have any news about his family. Maybe I should keep my eyes and ears open...". And when you find the amulet, "I think I found Mr. Colquettes family...".
And then, depending (or not) on your reply when given him the gem, you can add a small entry and move to Done Quest! Like "Mr. Colquette got's his necklage back" or something... I think it was a necklace.
@Cerevant unfortunately I do not have save before the event. I have re-entered the area where I left her and their bodies. Now she does talk to me (and offer to join), unlike right after the fight. Journal is still not updated after the talk with J. Not sure if this is a bug or not.
The quest "The Fishermen and the Priestess" (started in AR1400 by talking to the fishermen) doesn't update the quest journal properly, if you choose the evil path, ie. you kill Tenya.
There should be a quest update when you kill her, and of course when you go back to the fishermen for your reward. It works fine if you go the good way though and agree to help Tenya.
I've attached save where I've started the quest and Abdel is standing next to Tenya, if you want to verify this yourself @Cerevant.
Another bug. Recruited Safana but her quest is never even added to the quest log.
I've a Journal entry for Safana, since there isn't a reward for this "quest" i think that is fine...
I missed that journal entry, but I still think it should be a real quest entry because that's the standard of how the other companion quests are treated. Even though there isn't any money/xp reward, I'd say the companion staying in your party is reason enough to make it clear this is something important.
The quest "A Ring for a Lady" in which you need to give an angel skin ring to Fergus at the Flaming Fist HQ isn't added to done quests after completing it. Instead it just disappears from your journal. Attached my save for this.
Did you guys fix that journal entry for that quest in Beregost where the wife is worried about her husband but he was killed by those two (2) ogrillions right south of Beregost and all you get form the quest is the ring?
There's no journal entries when Shandalar sends you to the Ice Island to retrieve his cloak. At least not if you have killed his daughters, and he teleports you there without asking for permission first!
and he teleports you there without asking for permission first!
This is intended and present in BG vanilla too.
I know it's intended. I was just trying to give some background to the situation, especially because he acts differently depending on if you have, or haven't killed his daughters. My post was about the quest having no quest journal entries, at least in the case you have and he teleports you to the ice island as punishment.
The Fishermen and the Priestess quest doesn't add a Done Quests entry when you side with the fishermen. The quest stays in the Quests section as just a red header, no text under it when you expand. I was gonna get a screen shot for you but had trouble with the scrolling and lost all the entries in the Quests section. After a load the heading disappears
Talking to Mendas in Ulgoth's Beard and declining his offer usually gives you the journal update "The Reclusive Scholar", however there are several discussion paths that do not give that update. Eg. choosing options 1 1 2 2 3 2, 1 2 1, 2 1 1 2 3, and probably others.
They clearly should give the update since he mentions the job his offering before you even choose any option, and eg. just declining it as fast as possible with 2 2 gives it.

(I'll be working through this thread again and writing up the reports that I missed, commenting on items I don't have confirmation for)
