    no, pausing is good. Always pause before alt tabbing if possible.
  • VarwulfVarwulf Member Posts: 564
    I pause and autopause like crazy, no issues.

    @Khoryace - Ah, I think I misread your post.

    I can confirm this. VERY frustrating. My game just crashed when quicksaving, and suffered a soft-reset.
    I didn't knew what was going on and ended overwriting my last autosave :'(

    I think we (i.e. Avenger_teambg) identified the issue. I would expect this to be top priority for a forthcoming patch (though I have no exact knowledge as yet when that will occur).

    this is nice news.
    It seemed to be to be occurring when I selected huge movement path to do without pausing and alt tabbing.
    Since people stopped alt tabbing without pausing it seemed to have much less occurrence.

    I think my BG2 crashed three times in four days and lots and lots of playtime. Two crashes where direct results of alt+tab, the third one was a result of running the game without pause and getting diner (so that a certain character could heal up).

    I do switch tasks a lot, but never expierienced any lag. Maybe the lower priority or the energy saving settings throws off the game?

    I never experience any lag either, but I have 12 GB RAM so running out of memory isn't an issue on my system. It just crashes when it's gone far enough...

    I experienced my first quick saving soft-reset + crash bug last night when entering Firkrag's dungeon. I had to reload and fight two fights over again, which wasn't terrible. Still a little annoying but since I quick save almost after every step, I'd say one crash so far after some 3,429,495 quick saves isn't too shabby ;) Glad to hear the problem may have been identified.

    Just out of curiousity, why do games hate alt-tabbing? I have crash problems with many other games related to alt-tabbing

    @ReadingRambo - Sometimes it's because the game has one thread meant to modify data and another that comes along to use it. When alt+tabbed these guys get less time to do what they need to do and might get lost on the way and chaos ensues. Especially if it's trying to work over a network.

    Doesn't appear anyone's mentioned this.

    I noticed quite often when the game crashes due to a memory leak, if you windows key+tab out of it, then go back onto BG2, the image shown is quite often of an area you left approx 10 minutes ago.

    I just crashed while exploring windspear hills, tabbed back to it and it showed my character in the temple district.

    Been playing regularly since it came out and had it running almost all day without any issue with the mac version. Might be something specific to win.

    It's going to happen less often if you have a lot of RAM, or if you aren't running other programs in the background.

    In any case, we're pretty close to having it fixed. Just need to do some testing to make sure the fix doesn't cause other problems.

    If you'd like access to the beta build for BGII:EE, tag me here and I'll set you up with a copy. This is primarily for people experiencing issues with the memory leak, so if you're not having problems there won't be much of interest here.

    As with the "Road to v1.2" stuff, I can only extend this offer to people who bought directly through Beamdog, but this'll be a little bit less formal.

    @falanex @Varwulf @Teleron @Khoryace @jackjack @rae @Sharn @Akihiko @Amardarial @GemHound @Hasson @marceror @Aranthys @Sceptenar @althor @Flashburn @Malban
    These are the people who have posted in this thread about this issue, so if any of you bought the game through Beamdog and would like to test out the fix, let me know.

    @Dee I have experienced this issue and would like to be entered into the beta please.

    Unfortunately, I'm flat broke right now so I gotta play on a friends account for now until I get some cash. I'll tell him to post here though when I get a chance since we're both experiencing the issue.

    Sure, if you want I can test that fix later tonight. Edit.:Anything needs to be done for that ? Like, say, sending you an email with additional details.

    Actually, my post was to point out that I wasn't having the problem, but thanks for including me in the invite. :)

    Ahh, time for another beta test? Sign me up, @Dee! It'll be good to start squashing bugs again.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
    Okay, @Aranthys, @Flashburn, and @alannahsmith have all been provisioned. You'll need to use the Beamdog client for this test (largely because I don't have the beta installer link handy).

    Note that this won't restore any saves that have already been corrupted; what we're checking is that the memory leak has been fixed.
  • AranthysAranthys Member Posts: 722
    Thankfully, none of my saves were corrupted :D
    I'll check that later on tonight then, when I get back home from work
  • raerae Member Posts: 35
    @Dee I'd like very much to test the fix.

    @Dee

    I'm interested in testing, please set me up when convenient.

    Cheers!

    @Malban You're all set now.

    @rae, I need your Beamdog.com email address (you can PM it to me if you like).
  • KhoryaceKhoryace Member Posts: 79
    Im down for testing. Can this be done on existing non corrupted save? I make multiple saves now lol.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
    @Khoryace
    Yes, the fix should just eliminate the slow-downs and crashes you've been experiencing. I've provisioned you.

    I see the private beta added to my games on the beamdog website. When I click on it, it says 404 not found and logs me out as it does.

    When I click back home it seems it kept me loggued in tho.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
    You'll need to use the Beamdog client to install it (as I noted above). The beta is kind of an internal thing, so it doesn't have a store page.

    @Dee I wanna test!
