You can Try, Baldurs Gate Reloaded
  • @Ayiekie, can you keep the insults (however minor i.e. English isn't your first language, don't just make assumptions) halted. Also, if you actually read what I said in my comment about Skyrim I called it very popular, not once did I disregard it as a game. Maybe because you're a big fan of it you saw it that way but that's absolutely not the case. I do enjoy Skyrim, the point I was making is that it's become such a popular game that it's enthralled all manner of gamers, while profitable to the game, can also take away from the majesty of fantasy games.

"I'm guessing that English isn't your first language" is not an insult, minor or otherwise. It was, as I said, a guess to explain why CG's sentences were unclear.

And as for your comment on Skyrim, this is what I responded to:

"... but I've seen some of the people that play that and I wouldn't want to tarnish the Forgotten Realms with them."

It's hard to read that as complimentary or even neutral on "what sort of fan" likes Skyrim.

As the article Chaotic_Good posted showed, as well, Skyrim didn't actually have much penetration into the casual gamer market.

Also, you're making an unwarranted assumption in saying I'm a "big fan" of Skyrim. I'm not.
  • That depends really, again it's probably based on opinion but Chaotic's text might have been hard to understand for many reasons other than what his first language is, jumping to that conclusion could be seen as borderline racist but that's all down on how Chaotic percieves it.

And that's my point exactly, there are a lot of Skyrim fans out there that will just play the game for the hack and slash component and totally disregard the lore and fantasy setting, which is much harder to do in Baldur's Gate.

I was also assuming on a possibility, due to your defence of the game more than the fans who play it.

Either way, I still stick to my point that I doubt the Enhanced Editions will bring new fans to the attention of the originals, if anything it may even discredit them.

You can totally complain about the 1ee not being as good.. The enemy generation was completely botched there were a lot of good things they did, but that one is a real game changer. What it came out to new content excluded is a poorly done bgtutu. They added the mods and lowered the enemy generation resulting in a lack luster game play experience. Edit: It made the game easier across the board.

The change in the rolling system also made the game a lot easier.
The thread was derailed by a teen age drama queen lets get back on topic I made a mistake and fed a troll. Bad chaotic.. MMM Bad

The increased duel class options while cool also increases the ease of the game.

I'm shocked that you don't understand, but I can't spend any more time with this foolishness it is just to much labor.

Then stop posting. It is that simple.

I've noticed the enemy spawn rates are still wonky with BG:EE, but the spawned enemies are rarely that significant for the game (either in loot, or in experience). They're just there to be slaughtered and use up missile weapon ammo, essentially. Aside from that, BG:EE is fine and, as of the newest patch, is something I would recommend to others.

Prior to that patch, it had too many issues that really made it not worth playing for me, so I didn't.

Do you understand the difference between a guess and an assertion? Also, it is not racist to assume someone's proficiency in a second language may not be perfect, don't be ridiculous.

And yes, there certainly are other possible explanations for why his English is bad, but all of them I can think of are a fair bit more insulting to guess about somebody.

Not that it matters, since Chaotic just gleefully jumped to actually insult me (inaccurately).

And that's my point exactly, there are a lot of Skyrim fans out there that will just play the game for the hack and slash component and totally disregard the lore and fantasy setting, which is much harder to do in Baldur's Gate.

No there isn't. As the post Chaotic linked to shows, Skyrim primarily appealed to people who were already RPG fans and had little penetration into mainstream consciousness, being recognised by less than 20% of gamers surveyed.

Also, even if you were correct, someone who likes Skyrim for that reason is staggeringly unlikely to even give BGEE a first glance, let alone a second, so how precisely are they going to "tarnish the Forgotten Realms"?

I was also assuming on a possibility, due to your defence of the game more than the fans who play it.

I defended it because of an interest in truth - everything I said about it was factual. I don't hate Skyrim; it's enjoyable enough. But I am not a huge fan; the only Elder Scrolls game I am a real fan of is Morrowind.

Either way, I still stick to my point that I doubt the Enhanced Editions will bring new fans to the attention of the originals, if anything it may even discredit them.

You're entitled to your opinion, as little sense as that latter assertion makes to me.

Which is always a loaded question to begin with. A question is only framed as such if one imagines themselves to be the only sane one left in a world gone mad, or if they think their opinion makes them a lofty, unique little snowflake. In either case, it's motivated by pretension.
