Neera is now a man! Wild Surges and you!

So I'm playing BG2:EE and Neera wild surged into a bloke. I'm not romancing her so not a problem for me as a female PC but I'm surprised she hasn't reacted to it! Also is this a permanent effect? I seem to remember with main PC chars it is.

What interesting wild surge effects has everyone else experienced?

Wait, you mean any character (including PC) can get his or her gender changed with NO way to change it back??

Where would the fun be if you were able to reverse it? :P

Well, if you get that wild surge again it will turn you back into you original gender. That's just the fun of wild surges I guess...

Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity is your friend.

I was thinking the same thing, BUT if I import my char into BG2:EE, won't I lose that item? (plus I won't be able to equip a more useful belt while I'm wearing it)

I believe you can find it somewhere in BG2, but I can't recall where. Either way, Neera won't be a man when you import to BG2EE

Presumably she had a 'lucky' wild surge between the end of BGEE and your meeting in BG2EE!

I was more worried about my (originally female) PC still being a man when I import into BG2:EE.

That's an interesting conversation with your mates later.

"So guys, I have this friend... See, his girlfriend turned into a bloke. Do you think that makes him gay?"

Gender changes from wild surges revert after a day or so.

I cast a fire ball then this message showed up.

"Wild serge: caster level decreased by 1"

Then cast another one right after and this message showed up.

"Wild serge: caster level increased by 4"

Awesomeness is all I could say.

Well Wild Surges... There was a time a wild mage almost got my party of 6 mages killed against gibberlings in the black pits of BG1EE because of an AoE magic missile...

Yeah i had my gold destroyed. Twice. In a row. Second time after cashing in my stashed gear. Im not sure my math is correct but i think thats a probability of 0.00000025

Well... it's 5% per spell for wild surge, and each surge should have a 1% chance... I think that puts it at 0.0005 per spell to occur... 0.00025 for twice a row maybe?

I'm pretty sure that a large number of surge outcomes appear more than once on the wild surge table.

    Wouldnt that be (0.05*0.01)*(0.05*0.01)?

    Might be, I dunno, I did 0.05 * 0.01 / 2...

Actually there are a few that are similar to other ones, but every one of the 100 surges is different

Like there's atleast 4 fireball ones, One that deals damage and one that doesn't and both exist as versions that are centered on the caster or the target...

Hmm...does "dispel magic" work on wild surge effects such as this?

I had Neera in my party when we were going up against Firkraag. I spent several minutes applying buffs, positioning my melee characters for their first strike, and getting ready to have my rear end handed to me as always happens on my first attempt with this guy.

Imoen casts Lower Resistance and Neera casts disintegrate. I'm fully expecting him to make the save and for the fight to begin, but nope. Poof. Firkraag the dragon, one of the hardest fights in SoA, was reduced to dust before he could even turn hostile.

Wild Surge: No Saving Throw. Neera is awesome :)

EDIT: And yeah, this does make up for the time she killed 3 of the party with sunfire, turned herself into a wolf during a fight against buffed wizards, and erased all of the (substantial) gold from my inventory without me noticing until several saves later. But just barely.

Let me look, here... This is from a thread I made a little while ago.

So today while running through the Bandit Camp, I was prepping everybody for battle, and had Neera cast armor with Nahal's reckless dweomer, because that's what I do. I got a bunch of rolls, two of which were "roll twice more". +4 save for one of them...whatever, I can't think of anything that would be harmed by armor unless you could reverse it a la P&P divine magic... Second result AoEd the armor, so it hit errybody! Everybody armor! CHARNAME armor! Garrick armor! Neera armor! Safana armor! Xan armor! That Guy You Can Only Get If You Enter The Right Keys At The Start Screen armor! :D!

There've also been situations where I've accidentally gated in nabassu, run in the other direction as fast as my pixel-legs could carry me, and grabbed some water or tea or giggled while watching those assassins in Gullykin/those hobgoblins outside of the Temple/Bassilus and his undead followers/diseased gibberlings try futilely to attack it because I have die rolls in my feedback window.

And, like, you know, the times I've had silence happen when I meant to cast a chromatic orb. Or the times I've AoEd magic missile spells. Sure, in the latter case it really sucks when I don't have mirror images up, but it's the bee's knees when I've got a bunch of enemies at my heels and all of a sudden they get force energy in their faces and any spells that they might be trying to cast get interrupted.
It's like Doom Lord Kazzak's Shadow Bolt Volley in WoW, but it sucks more if you get so much "roll again twice" that the window scrolls several times and you end up like casting it at max level and everybody's already injured. :(

Results of "healed" or "refreshed" are nice.

    truf

Turning a character orange stays a pretty long time, in my experience. I had Neera glowing orange for a good part of my EE playthrough. I was all, "Girl, look at how orange you look!".

    @Purudaya
Uh, did Neera's shenanigans not obliterate Firkraag's scales, Carsomy, and other loot?

My BGEE party is level 4/5 and currently at the bandit camp. So far nothing has really happened yet, except that time when she made swirly things twice in a single fight against the hostile hunting party all the way in the southern map. (she tried to cast sleep twice in a row). We still won by the way.

Other than that, no wild surges yet!
