Maybe YOU'RE not so freaking special!!

Not sure if this has spoilers or not about certain NPCs...

But i absolutely loved how you weren't the only one who was special. Some NPCs weren't... but then again, some were! Some NPCs had something that you couldn't or shouldn't have or be.

Viconia: Was Drow
Aerie: Had specific class that elves can't have
Minsc: Berserker rage
Edwin: Amulet that grants more spells (or at least I thought it was the amulet)

and the list goes on!

    just remembered another one:

    Dynaheir - Cure poison.

Yea... no big deal right? WRONG! That crap was damn useful in cloakwood

Korgan and Imoen are the only ones I can think of that don't have anything "special."

Korgan and Imoen are the only ones I can think of that don't have anything "special."

Korgan had a higher starting Constitution then normally allowed.

Imoen started with gear most characters didn't, and was BG 2 special.

In bg2 imoen had an unremovable belt, didn't she ?
  • XavioriaXavioria Member Posts: 874
well she started with it yea... but I believe that it was there because she wasn't allowed to die in the beginning dungeon and that belt was to keep her from death.

AND Jaheira has Harper's Call... along with that pet, Khalid...

Yeah, but you can easily make you stats way above average at the beginning to make up for the difference. You really aren't special until BG 2 when you can transform into your demon mode.

@Moonmintroll : Imoen had her belt in BG2 and has a special background. There are more Drow in the world than there are Bhaalspawn after all :D The belt protects her from everything that could kill her iirc.

At OP: It's not that you're not special, it's that you attract other special people, or on Xzar or Tiax's cases "special". :P
It would be pretty boring to travel with a farm hand, a leatherworker and a miner. Imagine what riveting conversations a mage could have with them. ^_^

I definitely agree with you, @neleothesze; however what about just a regular mage, or thief or druid, or whathave you that is just trying to make for themselves. There ARE a few NPCs that are just ordinary people who just HAPPENED to meet you, and as Sarevok said, "There is power in your wake"

Don't forget about Nalia and her de'Arnise Signet Ring. The ring grants a +2 bonus to all saving throws, +2 armor class bonus, and 50% resistance to fire.

Korgan is a dwarf, and thus has +1 to Constitution.

Let's not forget Keldorn and his awesome armor.

I would also mention his sword but every time he fought an enemy in Athkatla, the magic damage from each hit would bring the Cowled Wizard and cause me problems...

And there's Haer'Dalis and his race as a Tiefling.

and yet he has a 20 con and NOT a 19, which would be 18 +1...Hence special.

You're thinking of Kagain of Beregost from BG1. Korgan is from Copper Coronet in BG2

I really liked the your not so special sort of feeling you got when you start bg2:tob . Oh so there is a whole city of bhaal spawn well that me put in my place.

Its does sometimes seem that 90% the people in Faerûn have something very special about them however. I feel sorry for the farmers.

I think i've kinda gone of topic tho sorry

BioWare really did screw up by naming them so similarly and making them so close to the same. Honestly I would have preferred if they had kept Kagain anyway; he was amusing while Korgan just seems to be a jerk if you ask me.

If you guys want a list:
    BG1
    Branwen - Spiritual Hammer
Coran - 20 Dexterity, 3 Proficiencies in bows
    Dynaheir - Slow Poison
Edwin - Massive amounts of spells
    Faldorn - Summon Dread Wolf
Kagain - 20 Constitution (he regenerates. so beast)
Minsc - Berserking, being a Ranger even though his Wisdom is 6
    Quayle - Invisibility
    Safana - Charm Person
    Tiax - Summon Ghast
    Xan - Moonblade
    Yeslick - Dispel Magic

Though I'm probably missing a few, admittedly.

Eldoth can make poisoned arrows, Alora has a rabbit's foot good-luck and don't forget the 50% magic resistance for Viconia. ^^

    In BG2, unique abilites:

Anomen: Special shield, Upgrades stats halfway through the game
    Cerndt: Unique staff
Edwin: Amulet of +1 spell slots
Haerdalis: Is a tiefling, 2 unique shortswords
Jan: Can create flasher missile, some very good thief gear, awesome armour
Keldorn: Very good armour, what would be a good sword there wasnt an obvious replacment
Mazzy: Special paladin like abilities even though she is a fighter, Magical shortsword
    Minsc: Berserker abilities, Boo.
    Nalia: Awesome ring
Valygar: Awesome unique armour, decent unique weapon
Viconia: Is drow, -2 rep, Awesome magical resistance
    Yoshimo: Crappy unique katana

    No unique abilities:
    Imoen: Nothing special
    Korgan: Nothing special
Jaheria: Nothing special except can get a harper amulet later on which is very good.
Aerie: Nothing special Elf Mage cleric is not normally allowed

it would be nice to have all the characters with something unique about them. I kow they get sidequests which are good, but I'd like the sidequests to give a nice reward to the character in question.

Ahh yes, good old useless Eldoth and his one use! If anyone has a tactic to make him actually worthwhile, please enlighten me!
What does that Rabbit Foot actually DO though? I still don't know haha!
Wow, I feel embarrassed for forgetting Viconia's considering she's like my favorite character.

Oh..*feels dumb now* I guess you can insert target anti dwarf racial comment here...lol

@ajwz - Actually, Jaheira has a unique ability called Harper's Call. It's not in the special abilities (star icon), but it's found in the spell scroll at the 5th level. It's basically a Raise Dead like spell that she gets. Other Druids can't Revive people.

Doesn't CHARNAME get special abilities as well, as (s)he advances in level?

@Tels This was covered by the TC describing the PC as "special."

@Moomintroll: I'm just saying that the PC is just as special as the others, in contrast of this thread's name.

There's hundreds of Bhaalspawn and the only thing that really makes you noticeably unique is the slayer form you acquire in Baldurs Gate II.
Sure, you've got a few bad dreams and a few low level spells, but who hasn't in Faerun?
