Boo's NPC Polls Part 10 (The Final Chapter): Who is the most Magnificent Mage?

booinyoureyesbooinyoureyes Member Posts: 6,164
The one you have all been waiting for.

You know the rules. Vote and comment as you see fit.

I'm very sorry about the lack of Baeloth. I had to leave someone out, even though I love him and he is very popular. It is unfortunate, but I didn't even have room for the "just show me results" option so I had to leave out the Easter Egg character, despite him being the magnificent masterful maestro of the alluring art of alliteration.
  1. Boo's NPC Polls Part 10 (The Final Chapter): Who is the most Magnificent Mage?132 votes
    1. Imoen (Vote for me if yer not all buffle-headed)
      14.39%
    2. Xzar (Move over Oppenheimer, he has become Death, destroyer of worlds!)
        9.85%
    3. Dynaheir (These boots were made for winning and thats just what they'll do. Thy/thee/thou is pronounedly challenged)
        3.03%
    4. Aerie (Uncle Quayle taught her well)
        6.06%
    5. Nalia (You didn't vote for me? But I've helped so many of *your* kind!)
        5.30%
    6. Neera (vote for her or EAT FLAMING - or... possibly frosty - DEATH!)
      13.64%
    7. Edwin (these simians do not recongnize my magnificence)
      33.33%
    8. Xan (These polls are doomed)
        7.58%
    9. Jan Jansen (I think we make a fine partnership, like Drizzt and Wulfgar, Elminster and Volo)
        6.06%
    10. Quayle (Have you seen his brain? Go ahead and touch it)
        0.76%

I voted based on class I must confess

I love aerie and imoen of course but wild mages are just too much fun

I'm not an option on the poll, so I have to abstain from voting. Then again, I'm a Sorcerer, not a mage. Hmm...

I like all the mages, really.
Imoen, Xzar and Xan were all in discussion, and I also love Edwin, Neera and Aerie as well. The toughest was this, thief and cleric in my opinion

Because cleric-mages are my favorite class. :D

And Aerie gets all the spells! ALL OF THEM.

She's too honest and doesn't appreciate her own beauty so it's an easy target for seducement sans shit-tests

Edwin, vote for this. Edwin, vote for that. Somebody get this jerk a banana!

I'd personally have dropped Xan from the running, Nalia too for that matter, in favor of Baeloth and the 'just show me the results'. And what about Charname? Can't he win?

I like Xan, he's one of my favorite mages, right behind Jan and Edwin

Ed is among my favourite characters in the series.

Imoen is an obvious vote. You need to keep the prize in the family.

I thought Xan had a huge fanbase, and I personally love him. Nalia I expected to do poorly, but she's a BG2 character while Baeloth is an easter egg (though I find him the best in BG1). Also I was sure that RecklessHeart was gonna vote for her, just like Coutelier with Aerie.
As far as charname, he was never an option!

If I had to drop anyone for Baeloth it would probably be Dynaheir, tbh.

Only one who knows that Dragons have rabbits feet (or something). Nuff said.

There are so many reasons why I love Edwin: The muttered asides, the *ahem* Nether Scrolls "situation", and of course, he's ALMOST as good of a mage as he thinks he is.

*constructs a little fort on the outskirts of this battlefield* I'll represent the De'arnise family off over here on my own, shall I? :P

by the way, thanks to @booinyoureyes for setting up all these polls. Especially the accompanying description to help remind you who they all are.
I believe Xan is pleasantly surprised at how well he is currently doing! :)

    This was an excellent point.

    Ahahaha, I just saw this @booinyoureyes !! Fantastic :P

@recklessheart truth be told, these polls were inspired by your discussions "Under Review" about Nalia and Dynaheir as well as another topic you started about Skie. I found those to be among the most interesting topics on this site. I love learning about other people's takes on characters, and those three in particular that you mentioned are not ones that I think about often, so its fun to see what other people find in them.

I'm really surprised in general about a couple things
    1. Branwen is super popular (I had NO idea)
    2. Xan is actually doomed (I thought he was adored by the fanbase)
    3. Mazzy is more loved than I imagined
    4. There are some crazy people (no offense) who actually like Dullygar!
    5. Just how many thieves there are in the game, and just how popular those characters are among the fans (pretty much everyone who voted loves a thief character)

As much as I like Xzar, Edwin is better.

It's a perfect 50/50 tie between Xzar and Edwin. I voted for Edwin because Xzar got my cleric vote.

    Another tough choice:

Imoen: same as thief. However, I do find it a cop out to have her a mage in BG2
Xzar: So many quotes, amazing battle with harpers, superb cameo in BG2
Dynaheir: Canon, but if it wasn't for Minsc she'd be gnoll food or thay bait for most parties
Aerie: Mage and Cleric. Naive, coming of age during a crisis story, with a love triangle, come on
Nalia: If you weren't Imoen light. Great back story and plot
Neera: My favourite of the new NPCs in both BG1 & BG2
Edwin: Power gamer's choice with insulting banter! plus he gets his come uppins both during the game and during his epilogue. CLASSIC
Xan: The coolness of the moon blade alone makes him one of my favs in BG1 and the mage I took majority of the time before Neera was introduced.
Jan Jansen: same as thief. HOWEVER due to multiclassing he is never my main mage always have another

So hard of a choice, I guess I'll just go

    Quayle: for the pity vote.

Edwin is a close second, but Xzar makes me laugh.

    Xan!
Love his personality - Im never sure if he is actually serious or if he just doesnt want to cope with things. Also, I really like his class, makes for some very interesting magery. Man, it would have been so awesome to have him in TOB, think about a lvl 35 arch-mage Xan taking on demi-gods successfully, yet being certain of doom even battling against some meagre Orcs ^^

Neera because she is unpredictable, funny, cute and endearing. She has a nice voice over.

She is also the most powerful mage in SoA/ToB with the exception of Edwin. But everytime Edwin speaks, he makes me want to dislocate his jaw.
