@Bjjorick Some men have perfectly sexy scalps... the rest grow hair to cover their flaws.
hey, I like my hair and as long as it stays on my head, Im not going to do or say anything that might make it want to leave not to mention I like my beard and mustache.....I dont grow it to hide, I do so cause I like it
oh, i have a beard and moustache, as much as it bothers me to say that while using aerie as my avatar but that's from the rpg thread that i'm in.....but lol, with my part of the convo, it's kinda redundant, easy to tell which one is aerie.
Two things i always liked about myself. my hair and my eye. perhaps that's why i'm nearly bald and need glasses?
Im always careful when talking about hair....I have a nice full head of thick wonderful hair (altho I lack color now days) but my brother, all the men on my moms side of the family and most of the men on my dads side of the family were all bald by the age of 40.....so Im beating the genetic odds
About glasses.... one word.... LASIK wonderful technology...though now after 12 years I do need reading glasses.
well, my wife seems to love me, whatever the case may be. I also seem to piss off alot of people, so maybe i've got at least a normal sized dose of it. But ehhh, i'm no patrick stewart, and neither is minsc. Awesome though he may be
i agree with @elminster with continuity reasons. It's also good to try out a party with Minsc, Khalid, Imoen, Jahiera and Dynahier, just to see how the story flows through to BG2.
Admittedly, It was only when BG2 was released that I tried the above party and thought it was great. It's very well balanced, with two tanks, thief, healer and magic user. It doesn't really matter what your character is because the party is already balanced imo.
I always liked him since I rarely play warrior-like/strength-based characters myself, so I always thought of Minsc as providing the muscle ('you point, I punch') and working a bit like a moral compass for my alignment-torn Bhaalspawn, while I in return did the thinking for him and made him achieve his destiny under my leadership. So yeah, it's always been a good companionship. But I certainly like Edwin as well, and always include him in my party too unless I am a mage or sorcerer myself. Normally I just edit it so NPCs never leave because of reputation, allowing me the party setup I want.
Minsc is epic. I don`t think i`ve ever played a game without him. I might even have started an evil toon only to reroll when i remembered that Minsc would not like me if i was evil.
One of my favourite moments was Minsc going bezerk within a pile of gibberlings, with Khalid backing him up - bits of gibberling flying everywhere - and Minsc screaming "Go for the eyes boo!" while Kahlid was picking them off with his bow, stuttering all the while. That battle alone should have entitled each of them to be considerd for the next Expendable movie.
He has the best Strength in the game, that's a big perk. His Dexterity and Constitution are decent (16). So overall he's a pretty good warrior. I've always had better luck with Khalid (best-rounded), Kagain (decent strength, bad dex, epic con), and Kivan (good strength, good dex, meh con) though.
It annoys me greatly when people judge characters in these games solely on their stats when there is so much more to them than just numbers. Each of of them have their own story, motivation, personality, voice and reasons for being where they are when we meet them, and for wanting our help/wanting to travel with us. That should be the basis for your decision to take them with you or not.
Hell, min-maxing / powergaming is not even close to being a requirement for beating these games -- they can be played with any combination of characters as long as you have the basic roles covered -- so why would anyone want to miss out on great storytelling, character development and comradery by choosing a guy just because "he has the highest Strength". It's dumb and and it means you're completely missing the point of what makes these games so great and why they're still so popular after all these years.
Well to be honest any decision the mainchar does in the game is supposed to support his task to find whats going on and survive. A bunch of cool guys and hot chicks with deep stories are surprisingly ineffective in bashing heads. It simply doesnt make sense, here is the roleplay. Im not playing The Sims here.

Bullshit. Each of the joinable NPC's have skills and abilities according to their class and role, and can thus be effective in combat, especially when properly equipped. As long as your group covers the basic roles, there is no game-breaking disadvantage to choosing story or personality over stats -- the game and its challenges are balanced around average AD&D characters, not uber stats.
I dont understand are you generalizing or speaking specifically about bg1, seeing terms like " these games". BG1 is far from easy, characters can die in melee extremely fast and getting disabled usually means death either, try it with no reloading or not resting every 5 seconds maybe.
But in any case this is metagaming, in other words picking up a wuss because of some outworldly knowledge that he wont come to harm. The mainchar does not possess this knowledge. He is fighting for survival. Like said you are treating BG like The Sims and relying on some entity called "Bioware" to make it beatable, i wouldnt try it with a real-life DM.
one of the things i loved about minsc was in bg2. Aerie is my fav char (assuming you can't tell) and the way minsc and aerie bond and she becomes his new witch was kinda cool. But the one time aerie actually died, lol, was at the battle of klagaroth (where you get the ring of gaxx) and minsc lost it and went into berserk mode, killed klagaroth, then killed the entire party (pc was last to die, obviously. Was trying to put him down at that point just for the fun of it.
It tooks me 4 more tries after that to kill klagaroth, but minsc did it like it was nothing lol.
Off topic: @LadyRhian DMing it very good, if I might add.
On topic: The first time I played BG 1 I didn't get along very well with Minsc. He would often leave my party because I was not doing his quest. Sometimes he would try to kill me, as well.
When I got down the basics of the game, he was a nice and enjoyable character. Not my favorite, but good.
I think in the end what really makes Minsc awesome is just... Minsc. The voice, the appearance, the attitude, these things are iconic for most BG vets.
In BG1 he's hard to miss, recuitable early and has impressive stats, esp if CHARNAME isn't a fighter-type. Once in the party he quickly grows on you because of his straightforward style.
In BG2 they upped the ante by putting him in the same room you start in, and you don't even need a key to let him out. Heck, he breaks out when you try to END the conversation and has one of his best lines IMO ('ooo... you are as smart as Boo sometimes').
Whenever you are travelling with him he's a reminder that you are playing a game, as people like that don't exist in real life (or if they did you definitely wouldn't want to hang out with them). And at the same time, he reminds you that playing a game is fun, if for no other reason than you get to hang out with over-the-top wacky characters sometimes. Heck, this was even before anime hit the mainstream!
I honestly can't stand Minsc, he's almost as bad as Noober. His jokes are funny I guess if you're into silly cartoon humor. I leave him in his cage in Irenicus' dungeon every time I start a new game.
He also improves in BG2, with +1 dex and +1 con, making him a pretty solid character. His racial enemy also changes to vampire, which is very useful in SoA. Also, his berserk ability makes him a good soloist in a few situations, specifically against mind-controlling demons. Further, the strength items aren't available in BG2 right away, so he's useful for a while, not to mention that I usually will have him and perhaps another melee or two minimum, in which case, those strength items go towards augmenting other fighter-types (such as Jaheira, Keldorn, Mazzy, or Valygar).
Also, alignment is a big deal for me, from a roleplay perspective. Edwin is lawful evil in BG1 and chaotic evil in BG2. He may be powerful, but he cannot be trusted. I have played through with him before though, and he adds a lot of comic relief too.

This is one game where I have too many dialogs memorized.
