Couple Questions Regarding the Stat Raising Tomes

Hey,

Been carrying around a couple of tomes (INT and WIS) for awhile now because I'm not sure who I should give them to. My major concern is that (from what I gather) these stat bonuses don't carry over when importing to BG2 (for your other party members, that is). So, although I don't necessarily need to increase MY INT & WIS, giving them to a party member who is just going to end of losing it seems like kind of a waste. For example, seeing as Imoen is a T/M in the sequel, it would make sense to give her the INT tome, but if her stats are just going to revert back at the start of BG2, what's the point? I do realize that they would benefit my other members for the rest of BG1, so I guess my question is: Do you think it is more beneficial to give these tomes to your main character (regardless of whether it has any concrete benefit for the class that they are playing), or should I give them to my other party members even though they will eventually lose it. Thanks.

Unless you plan on dual classing a BG1 NPC I wouldn't normally give them to them.

You could always just console in whatever tomes you don't use once you get to BG2.

So, more information. What class is your Charname? Some classes actually benefit from the bonuses in not so obvious ways.

Second, Although it is true that anything you do in BG1:EE to NPCs will not carry over to BG2:EE, the characters do morph and develop (i.e. stats are adjusted for the second game based on how the developers wanted, not how you do) between games.

If you are looking for benefit, do you really need to look beyond the first game? As for example,
if you give a certain necromancer the WIS Tomes, you can turn him into a very formidable cleric/wizard. Potentially one of the most powerful casters in the first game.
My personal suggestion is use the tomes that will benefit Charname on Charname. STR/DEX/CON/CHA plus any others that might benefit (such as WIS for Cleric or even Wizard for use with Wish) and don't worry over much about the 'Loss' in using them on the others. You get benefit, just not long term. And in this you are also free to explore other NPCs in BG2:EE and aren't tied to those you uplifted in BG1:EE. All in my opinion.

@the_spyder I'm playing a Cavalier, so I guess the WIS tome could benefit me as I get the ability to cast cleric spells at lvl 9 (I think). Yeah... I'll probably end up giving the INT tome to Dynaheir. Thanks for responding (you too, @elminster).

    @Carl_L - sounds like a plan.
There is more than one WIS Tome.
Also, some players actually meta game their characters such that they can utilize the tomes (such as starting out with CON of 15 instead of 16 for non Fighters).
One final thing. There are at least two stat boosts to be had in BG2:EE as well.
@TJ_Hooker Oh... good to know. Thanks. I guess I'll give it to Jaheria...

If you console them in you could actually add a new dual-classable character in BG2

Valygar has 14 wisdom already, and you potentially have 3 tomes of wisdom. You could make him a ranger-->cleric I believe.

You could shadowkeep the added tome stats in BG2.

I usually hoard them all though for my main character. There are certain times in the game having a higher than needed dump stat comes in handy.

I generally use all stat tomes on my PC(s), unless there's clear advantage to using them on an NPC. The previously mentioned Wisdom tome for a divine caster is a great example. Or a constitution tome for a tank if you're playing a spell caster might be another example.
But given how much I prefer warrior types, they pretty much all go to me!

I use all of them on CHARNAME except for the one WIS tome I typically hand off to Xzar.

If you are consoling them in, are you limited to the number of tomes that actually exist? Can't you theoretically console in an infinite number?
