These are sad news but we knew it was coming, at least the fans of the Neverwinter Nights games did.

The site that hosted modules, custom models, textures and anything fan-made about both NwN games, since 2003 and maybe earlier, is dead.

I have been visiting that site regularly since 2005-2006 until today.

EA (I think) shut it down and redirected it with this wonderful thing. http://www.ign.com/wikis/neverwinter/

Of course we have the Nexus and there's a new Neverwinter Vault site (with stuff that will be reuploaded eventually), that is hosted by the fans but we grew used to and loved the old one, with it's interviews, Hall of Fame and various other awards, as well as reviews.

The site was basically dying a slow death and the plug has been pulled officially with no notice.
Some information can be found here. http://forum.bioware.com/topic/508074-nwn-vault-is-dead-long-live-nwn-vault/

That's a damn shame. Still it was inevitable. Even more so because I JUST got the Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition. :/

Its a shame that the NWVault had to be shut down.

I don't know how much responsibility EA had, but considering that the domain was owned by IGN, I would blame IGN for it first.

Then again, I think IGN did give a warning that they were going to shut down NWVault, like a year ago. Around the time that they said they were closing down gamespy too.

While reading the forums there I came across a post that suggested adding the IP of the nwvault to one's hostfile? This is the thread, just scroll / read the thread and you'll eventually come across it: http://forum.bioware.com/topic/508081-nwn-vault-restoration/

Its been forever since I went to that website. The last time I did was for portraits for my half-orc in BG. Just needed to find the right portrait and adjust its size.

I'm honestly not surprised it went down, but sad all the same. The website was one of those places I knew existed, I knew was amazing, I knew had alot of love and work put into it, but very rarely ever needed. I didn't even know it was run by EA(*Idly adds another thing on his "Why I hate EA" list*)

Honestly what bothers me the most is the lack of warning. No time to mourn. No time to try and help. No time to try and do damage control. I'm reminded of when CoX was announced it was going down. I still hate NCSoft for taking down City of Heroes but at least they gave us time to prepare for the end.

R.I.P. NWVault. You were an amazing website, and hopefully the fanmade website coming after you will be even more amazing.

Another mark to make people realize how much EA, IGN and all the money behind those sucks.

And I must have married Lady Aribeth! Aribeth Shadow Mantle... Wow... (someone must have read my posts...) In fact the opening scene on the video seems a lot like this idea for BG3 I had...

@Anduin Neverwinter is a fairly recent MMORPG from the folks at Cryptic. It's not TOO bad if you just want to get back into the Forgotten Realms, it's based on modified fourth edition rule set however :) I played it with most of my family and friends for a few months but MMO's have a really hard time holding my attention for a long period. I tend to find them somewhat generic and iterative. But that's probably just me. :)

@CaloNord @Anduin It's 4E, Pay to Win, MMO. That's already three strikes against it. Personally, I prefer DDO or even better, Neverwinter Nights 2 Online on RP servers.

@Tresset There's the Neverwinter Nexus. And there's the new fan-made Neverwinter Vault. http://neverwintervault.net/

But it will take some time to get everything the original Nw Vault had. Plus you don't know anymore which mod is more popular or had which awards.

They'll get back on their feet. At least we have another place for NWN :) The BG series and NWN series are by far my favorite. They both deserve a lot of TLC to bring them up to date with modern specs :)
Still one thing at a time! :D

Hmm, doing some research on the forums, it might not have been intentional.
Apparently you can restore it if you edit some lines in the hosts file of the Windows files.

Though I have tried it, I cannot get it to work. I will keep you informed if it's restored.
