Are YOU a neurotic RPG player?
I recently read a fun article over at Game Informer with a list of ten signs you might be a neurotic RPG player. I'll list a couple which I may or may not resemble at times (I'm not telling!). You can find the rest at the link at the bottom of this post.
You’ll talk everyone’s ears off – multiple times – for fear of missing out on dialogueFrom: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/11/25/10-signs-that-you-may-be-a-neurotic-rpg-player.aspx?PostPageIndex=1
If you’re an NPC, you clearly don’t have a lot going on in your life. If you did, you probably wouldn’t be standing around in the same spot all day long. Don’t be surprised when I systematically roll through your dialogue tree several times to ensure that I’m not missing on any scraps of your sob story or potential side missions. I won’t be convinced when you try to get me to leave by saying, “I have nothing left to say to you right now,” either. I’ll be back – you’re camped out next to the potion shop, after all – and you can bet that I’ll talk to you every time I restock on supplies.
Every active quest in your journal nags at your soul
Most quests fall into two categories: The ones that you’ve completed, and the ones that stare at you, piteously, taunting you with your inability to complete them. As you steadily finish them off, you only end up acquiring more along the way (remember that bit about talking to every NPC?). This is one of the reasons I flinch every time I pull up that menu. I only feel okay about leaving a village once all of my business is finished. There are a variety of reasons why I don’t finish every RPG that I start, and this is one of them. This is the kind of behavioral tic that can utterly paralyze me.
If an item isn’t nailed down, you’re going to take it with you – even if you’re not playing as a thief
I don’t even want to know how many pairs of calipers I ended up pocketing in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. They didn’t do anything but take up inventory space, but that didn’t stop me from filling my pockets with the stupid things. Until I figure out exactly what is and isn’t important, I’m going to suck up every item that crosses my path. And, in the case of those calipers, I might even do it after I figure out what is and isn’t important. If you ever find yourself in Cyrodiil and you’re in need of calipering, look me up. I’m the Khajiit who jingles like a sleigh when he walks.

P.S. Their server is currertly down
I played a fair share of MMOs (bit of Diablo too) and probably will get back to them in the future.
Autosaves are a foe as vile as any demon lord
Whereas I agree with these statement completely, it rarely affects me cause I save a lot and in different slots as well.
You’ll talk everyone’s ears off – multiple times – for fear of missing out on dialogue
In particular during first playthroughs, bit less in subsequent ones.
Every active quest in your journal nags at your soul
Of course! Potential loot and exp! Oh, don't forget the good feeling from helping poor virtual soul =P
Also again on MMOs, since most of them have 'do x quest in zone y' achievement, I usually moved to next zone only after getting said achi =D
You will not rest until every inch of the map has been uncovered
Such annoyance in BG series, cause not all maps can be fully discovered without cheats =[
You can’t walk past a waterfall without first seeing what’s behind it
I just realized it's true XD So many hidden stuff behind waterfalls in so many different games.
No barrel, crate, or table will escape your smashing
Hey! It might drop legendary loot! =]
So 7/10 for me, definitely neurotic ^_^
P.S.
Site works fine for me
i absolutely do every quest, no matter what. in DAI this means I even did all of the hinterlands, which is not recommended to most people as a way for starting out the game. luckily I did do some other stuff throughout it, mostly because the western area was too high a level for me at first on nightmare.
talk everyone's ear off, check. I've heard "I'm in the middle of some calibrations" too many times to argue. in DAI I almost feel like I got stuck in a romance sooner than I would want due to this. My guy is that cocky rogue who likes to joke around and flirt with everyone, but now I can't do the second (relationships suck!)
If I got absolutely nothing worthwhile from a boss and it wasn't painfully difficult I may restart it to get something worthwhile.
Waterfalls are my friends! However as far as I remember they aren't my friend in DAI. They have yet to give me any deadly presents
And if I didn't uncover the entire map how would I find cheese shields (literal cheese) better than my current shield in the first week after release where there are no guides yet? When I first found that I didn't yet see much about it, but now there is plenty of coverage on it.
Meh. I'm not into unrealistically pretty characters in the first place. Though I'll admit I use the 'showracemenu' console cheat in TES games sometimes.
You will replay a boss encounter over and over again at the prospect of getting marginally better loot
Not exactly, but... in BG2 I abuse Sphere of Chaos a lot. So I end up disintegrating good loot all the time.
Autosaves are a foe as vile as any demon lord
Relied a lot on autosaves during my early gaming years, until I realized just why it's a bad idea. Oops...

I grew up playing Pokemon. It's a given.
Every active quest in your journal nags at your soul
On the contrary, I actually manage to forget quests in my journal until it's too late.
You will not rest until every inch of the map has been uncovered
Entirely pragmatic reasons... I think. Can't miss out on any potential loot.
You can’t walk past a waterfall without first seeing what’s behind it
Wait, people put things behind waterfalls? o_O
If an item isn’t nailed down, you’re going to take it with you – even if you’re not playing as a thief
Gahhhh. Encumbrance is a b*tch. Though in my case it's isolated to items with significant value.
No barrel, crate, or table will escape your smashing
I'd love to say this applies to real life too, but...
Also restarting character creation depends a bit. I usually spend hours in cc because I am not the best with most creators, and within the first 10 hours I am willing to restart. If there is an open cc command like Elder Scrolls I am willing to use it. Although I am not entirely satisfied with my DAI character I will not restart after 100 hours just because I want to change hair color and perhaps a few small changes. It is basically what I want. I wish games would stop with fancy cc backgrounds though. I thought my hair was darker than it ended up when I got in game.
"Rare item! RARE ITEM!"
I must have all the rare items! (AND NOT SO RARE ONES!)
