I just heard from a friend that in his BG2EE installation on a MAC he is seeing combat feedback like this: "takes 6 piercing damage", "takes 20 slashing damage" So the weapon type used by the encounter is indicated. But it's not like this in my game. Do i need to set up something in the baldur.ini?
And if someone can explain to me WHAT Cosmetic Attacks does exactly, I will gladly thank them.
With cosmetic attacks turned off, a sprite only goes through its combat animation when the character is actually attacking. So a char with one attack per round will only move once per round. With cosmetic attacks on, the sprite will continuously play its combat animations during the fight.

If you add it to your ini file it should work even in BG:EE.
Would really like it in BGEE too
