@Schneidend There is a mod out there called Imeon Romance... Never played it... But if you got that lust... well...
I always thought it would be funny to be able to sort of start flirting with her and stuff in BG1, and then come BG2 you find out you're half-siblings and then it's just like ohh ... this is awkward. And then get friendzoned. That would be pretty realistic honestly.
I like the bg2 Imoen portrait better, because even though she's serious or sad in the pose, the character lines in her face and the bright red hair with the pink shoulder overlay seem more congruous with her voicings (relatively high-pitched and girly).
The bg1 picture shows a much older woman, and the raised eyebrow and the character lines in her face make her look like a mature person with a serious no-nonsense demeanor, almost like somebody's stern mother. It doesn't help that I once taught a set of three violin student sisters whose mother looked exactly like that picture. When I first saw her, my first thought was "omg, Imoen just walked into my studio with her three daughters to get them violin lessons." And then the lady turned out to be a real sourpuss, always complaining and unhappy about something, so I just *cannot* see that photo as our beloved Imoen any more.
BTW - somebody mentioned Imoen's charisma scores relating to perceived attractiveness in the photos. Charisma is only marginally influenced by physical attractiveness. It refers to a person's ability to influence and lead other people. You can be a butt-ugly old man or woman and still be a very charismatic individual - look at the most influential politicians. High charisma means you have a charming personality, and Imoen certainly has that.

BG2 portrait has it in the bag for me by far, I have a thing for pink hair you see... Heheh, nah it's more the fact that the BG series has a lot of characters that are really developed over time (moreso in BG2 then BG1) so for me her portrait from BG2 reflects what Immy has been through, she looks worn and weary, but also tougher and more resilient imo in comparison to her somewhat mischievous appearance from BG1.

Haha. Before BG2 came out I always figured Imoen and my PC must have experimented, being the only male and female teenagers around. I had a decent Charisma and wasn't a gnome or anything, so I was a little disappointed that it never came up.
...Then BG2 came out and I got to Spellhold. By Loviatar, why?!
I wonder wouldnt the mainchar and Imoen feel a certain.. connection which would prevent them from doing the nasty. They didnt seem overly attached to each other anyways.
Not having yet played BGI yet, my vision of Imoen from BGII probably greatly effects my view of the portraits.
I don't think that the first portrait is a bad portrait at all, but I think that the second fits BGII Imoen so well. There is so much emotion packed into that portrait. Unfortunately, I don't know what she was like before Irenicus. Fortunately, that will change very soon.
Lots of people dont have experience with BG1 so pick the convenient choice they have more experience with, which would be bg2. I expect poll results will change after more people play BGee. In my opinion anyways, having played through both games multiple times, BG1 look perfectly fits her personality of a cute roguish Candlekeep castle girl. Bg2 is more like emo-mage but since she is a mage in bg2 its not surprising too.
I'm not sure why Imoen from BG2 is being referred to as "emo". Whiny, perhaps, but I think her life experiences allow her that, and if they do not, could you elaborate as to what would?

They do. I just can't stand her whining, much like I can hardly stand Aerie. What happened to My blade will cut you down to size! ? All right, she was tortured. Still can't stand the whining, as I liked her a lot better before the change

Fair enough. I cannot stand quite a few of the NPCs, so I'm not one to contest reasons for disliking an NPC.
Eh? How so? Her first few dialogues establish her character quite nicely, I think. She just isn't loud and obnoxious like Minsc or Xzar. Doesn't mean she lacks for personality.
Minsc constantly TELLS me he's a champion of goodness. Imoen SHOWS me she's my plucky, mischievous kid sister figure by pick pocketing people and sneaking peaks at my father's letters that not even I have seen. Imoen is really well-written for that simple fact that her dialogue and actions follow that simple tenet of showing rather than telling.

Agreed, and I find that Imoen is fairly bright and somewhat "bouncy", in regards to her personality. She always seemed to have a pleasant and upbeat attitude for the majority of BG1.
And then came BG2, and she showed me the scars of her experience thus far. I think I'd describe it more as sad than whiny, emo, or nearly anything else.
BG2 definitely but I suppose I'm biased because I played BG2 first so that portrait became "canon" for me. The BG1 version looks like a complete stranger to me and actually looks older than in the BG2 version. Also I'm used to Imoen always being kinda melancholy and child-like (in an endearing way) which is better represented by the BG2 portrait along with being a better fit for a thief/mage.
The BG2 portrait also looks like someone's, close to being middle-aged, mother. Definitely not my lil' sister.
I so wish the same had been achieved with Jaheira's BG2 portrait.
Oh? I always thought Jaheria's change in portrait (apart from her eye colour) was she went from being more stern in BG1 to being actively guarded/ wounded in BG2. Kinda like the life has been drained from her.
Bringing up Jaheira in this thread was a bit off-topic of me, but I had just written this comment about her portraits so it was fresh in my mind. I like the way you describe Jaheira's BG2 portrait; very eloquent and fits the way I see Imoen's BG2 portrait. As for Jaheira, I feel that the artist failed in that aim due to losing all of Jaheira's original features and making her expression too lifeless.

Lol, you nailed it with the "a porn pout" remark about Jaheria :P I agree with alot of what you said about her change, but I still prefer her BG2 one. Apart from being used to it, I recognize her Fighter and Druid aspects in her Bg2 one, while I only really see a fighter in her Bg1 portrait.
BACK TO IMMY! I really have a liking for any mod out there that takes a shot at expanding her character. I played BG2 first and she was instantly my favourite NPC, which says alot seeing as she's barely in the game. The fact that her dialogue doesn't naturally pop up on ToB should give an indication of how much I love the ascension mod for bringing her back into the overall plot ^.^

BG2's story and ambience was darker, with a more sinister and brooding atmosphere. Everything feels more closed-in (and indeed, its a much more linear plot). BG2 has a kind of film noir-ish quality of deception, murkiness, and confusion about what's really going on, especially with respect to the crazy scheme that Irenicus has. It's noir-ish too as a morality play: an all-consuming lust for power perverts normal healthy, prosocial functioning into something monstrous.
Anyway, I would describe Imoen in BG2 as having angst. I think it is mostly in her dialogs about wishing for her former existence that she uses her most plaintive (and almost shrill) tone. Thus Imoen became Emo-en. I still like her character in BG2 despite that, though.
It's okay for me that BG2 took this turn. The contrast with BG1's world/story works. I, personally, prefer BG1 to BG2 both in terms of story and atmosphere, overall. But I'm not sure that for BG2 I would have wanted more of what BG1 gave us. The story needed to develop in some new direction after Sarevok was defeated.

I'll be honest. BG1 Imoen doesn't talk much, we can all agree with this. Actually after she joins the party she wouldn't even say anything for the rest of the entire game, even if you have a heroic reputation! Nonetheless, with just a few lines of dialogue, the game already defined her personality pretty well. I recently tested BG1 Banter Pack because I wanted more, and that put a smile on my face!
BG2 dialogues were fine, I just LOVE character development, but it was a pity her angst was spread all over SoA's plot without any break anywhere. Well, at least she recovered in ToB.
Speaking of the portraits, I still prefer the original BG1 portrait because I WANT to imagine her that way, with an upbeat and cheery personality. I can't like the BG2 one because it takes everything out of it, but I understand why they chose to use that one. Oh well, nothing that can't be solved with some name changing in the "Portraits" folder... =P
I think the photos really capture Imoen's dispositions and experiences from BG1 and BG2. The BG1 photo shows her as spirited and even somewhat devious with the raised eyebrow. In the BG 2 photo, you can really see the impact of her experiences (especially being tortured by Irenicus).
this picture comes straight from the game so 95% authentic, for some reason imagehost has autoconvert it to png, lol, but its losless so..
for whats its worth here is imoen2, and while we are at it, heck, Jaheira too.
You should have set this poll up @Roller12, you sourced the better pix! Again, for continuity and fair comparison, the BG2 pic is now the one you supplied!
Jaheira could be another poll but I think there would only be one winner IMHO...
I always wondered what was going on with Jaheira's face and mouth. It looks like she's got a tumor or something in her right cheek.
I would hate to get in a fist-fight w/ Imoen from BG1, she looks like she wears underwear w/ dick holes in 'em.
Wait...what?
Please, for the love of the gods, explain this comment. I am so very confused.
It's a quote from Chapelle's Show. He's mocking Rosie O'donnell, he says he would hate to fight her b/c she looks like she wears underwear with dick holes in 'em. Meaning she looks like a man. I was making a parallel w/ Imoen and her, in my opinion, manly countenance from BG1.
