I just reached Spellhold island or whatever it's called, if I take Imoen into my party whenever I get to her am I going to have to abandon someone here?

spoiler free advice: rescue her first, then worry about party dynamics
That's what I'd planned to do but just because I didn't want Nalia in my party doesn't mean I wanted to leave her marooned for all eternity in the centre of a dead island.
Buried alive!
...no, wait that's something else.
I just don't want to kick her out and leave her in Imoen's cell...
Edit: Oh, it looks like I can just tell her to go home
It is one of the issues with the game. It really does feel wrong.
"My comrade! I thank you for your friendship, and all you have sacrificed for my quest. But I can't have more than five allies. So...let's not make this any more awkward than it already is..."
Yeah, I've had the same problem, because I was running a five-person party and installed the Tiax mod. But even though you just rescued Imoen, you can ditch her. In a similar vein, you can kick Minsc out in Irenicus's dungeon, and then tell him to go to the Copper Coronet, which you, according to continuity and chronology, have never been to, and neither has he.

Well that solves that.
Or something.
I'm glad it worked out for you ^_^
