Boo hiss >:( I was under the impression some dialogue was still hidden in the game files. Wishful thinking, then?

I once had a hot encounter with Noober. It involved him, myself, and some steamy arrows of detonation.

Actually years ago I've read somewhere that if you search in the bg2 files you can find some of the Valygar romance dialogues... I've heard of a dialogue where Valygar tells Mazzy that his heart is only for charname, or something like that, but now I can't find the forum where I read it
  • colonel_burgercolonel_burger Member Posts: 279
It was semicoded but never completed. It was added later via mods, you should be able to find it at gibberling3.net.
  • SophiaSophia Member, Translator (NDA) Posts: 581
Yes it was only semicoded, like A LOT of other things in the game unfortunately, and I'm afraid that in bg2ee they won' t be able to complete the "unfinished businesses" due to contract limitation
  • colonel_burgercolonel_burger Member Posts: 279
It's all good, whatever they don't complete the fanmodders will pump out within half a year. So much content was generated at G3 and weidu.org, I'm sure the old guys are just waiting to see what's been fixed and what isn't.

I, for one, can't wait for the new edition of BG Tactics on the EE. :)

There aren't actually any romance dialogues with Valygar or Haer'Dalis left in the game, just a few references to them in assorted dialogues with other characters.

Kulyok wrote a Valygar romance that is a part of Romantic Encounters at G3, and Aeryn has written a popular (and extensive) Haer'Dalis romance at SHS which I thoroughly recommend checking out as well.

I wonder why nobody actually thought of a minsc romance mod... I mean ... isn't he kind of a likeable guy? But I could bet there is something like an unwritten law in the modding community that nobody ever touches the sacred existance of minsc on how the writers initially created him.

Minsc took many blows in the head and he behaves almost like a child, how could someone write a romance on him :) ?

Well... it obviously worked for Aerie, so why not for Minsc aswell? Maybe for those that have a severe mother-complex?

I never tried female romances but almost everyone hates Aerie, is she so bad to romance :) ?

Well ... if you have a severe father-complex, you lack the guts to deal with real woman, love to be a babysitter and are good at "nodding without listening", then she is the girl to go.

And besides, with the minsc romance thing, I was more thinking of the humorous potential of this... I could imagine it being kinda like amy and sheldon of big bang theory...

never played a romance not once, always i mean always soloed the BG series. I did like to put all the npc in the copper cornet just cause it was neat to see them in one place.
  • SophiaSophia Member, Translator (NDA) Posts: 581
    Always solo?
That's a pity, not only for the romances, the npc interactions are an important part of baldur's gate, they make the game feels different and new everytime you play it for their personal quests and dialogues
  • kilroy_was_herekilroy_was_here Member Posts: 455
@Gloomfrost Wow, you're really missing out. The party interactions (even apart from romances) are one of the most memorable things that set this game apart. It's worth experiencing at least once, like a classic Fallout run with low INT.

Mind if I ask why you always played that way?

I think the Imoen mod was pretty well written. It's almost a must-have install if you keep her in your party after saving her in spellhold. Too bad the writer fell into the "rape is the most evil thing in the world" trap. Other than that, this mod is probably the highest quality NPC mod I've played. Custom music, very well written dialogues (the campfire scene is almost legendary)...

I agree with the Imoen romance mod being the highest quality NPC mod I've come across (though there are quite a few that I haven't played). I've never yet been able to bring myself to actually follow through with the romance, but I love the content and even tabbed and learned quite a few of the guitar pieces from the campfire scene. Some of them I've had trouble figuring out, but I'll get back to them at some point.

Interestingly, the original author has since handed the reins to a new team who is cleaning up the content and finishing the ToB portion. I have no idea when it'll be done, though.

I also agree about the rape-as-an-overused-plot-gimmick comment. That was the only flaw that I remember (well, it would also have been nice if some of the massive paragraphs of text would have been separated into different pieces of dialog rather than printed out in a single block all at once, but that didn't really bother me much).

Nice to see someone agreeing to me here. Maybe I sounds like I would want to bash this mod, but it's really not the case. I think that this mod actually made Imoen an interesting character to keep in your party. Too bad that in BG2 she never got any official banter content.

One more thing I liked about the mod was that it was configurable to the point that you could select if you want the dialogues "official-ish" or in the way the writer designed them. The writer obviously liked to use gestures and acting (you know ... text in brackets and stuff), it was a nice add that you were able to switch most of this gesturing off, so that the dialogues were almost purely direct speech, to make them blend better with the rest of the game.

I hope that now, with BG2:EE definitely coming out somewhen, the mod will finally get its TOB sequel (and possibly a BG1 prequel).

Well, someone had to like him, the 100% doesn't exist in a serious statistic.

Jokes aside, for me Anomen is more indifferent than hated

I like him as well, he comes second, right after Viconia, on my list of favorite BG2 NPCs.

I never tried female romances but almost everyone hates Aerie, is she so bad to romance :) ?

i dont know how anyone could hate her, she is adorable, and needs protection.
My guess would be that the other romances are a bit more "mature"
she was just the stuff i was looking for when i was 15 ; )

I actually enjoy bringing him along, if only because he is an insanely powerful cleric at later levels. I just hate his romantic advances.

I think most of the stuff Aerie says is not what you would call adorable. If you actually read through her dialogues, you will realize that she says some extremely stupid and also cruel things to charname, if you stick with the "right dialogue choices".
On top of that, even if she acts all innocent and righteous, when it comes to talking, she is selfish and has the typical behaviour of a drama-queen. She is definitely not the typical moe-type naive housewife that she tries to be.
Makes me wish I could enter my own words into the dialogue options sometimes...

Now that I think about it, I feel that all four romance options in BG2 act incredibly selfish. A relationship is giving and taking, none of them really "gives"; they all just demand. The problem with Aerie in particular is, that she is the kind of person you would not expect it from. For Jaheira, Viconia or Anomen it makes sense for them, as they are pretty much represented as selfish personalities in the first place anyway and know about it.

This is another reason why I liked the Imoen mod so much.
It was really nice when Imoen suddenly starts asking you in the underdark how YOU feel and what YOU wish for. Usually all romance interest characters almost always talk about themselves and their hardships and don't care the tiniest bit about charname - aside his immortal heritage. And it feels awesome to be reduced to that...

Among the mod romances, i can't say which one is the best, but surely i can say which one is the worst: Saerileth.

That mod has numerous red flags but I did love the modder putting together a nice rendition of the hive from PS:T.

My first choice was Aerie then she broke my heart, I slept with her too quickly and then she left me sniff sniff... I eventually rerolled and had alot more fun with Viconia, she was more my type of girl! ;)

@Sophia I suppose I'm missing the banter, just wish i could get the banter sitting in a tavern of something.

@kilroy_was_herekilroy_was_here Always Played Solo for the challenge, and honestly i don't like getting friends killed under my watch, I'd rather just risk my neck not theirs. Must have some sort of frontier cowboy thing in my head when it comes to gaming. I don't even use companions in Skyrim on master difficulty.

Aerie was my favorite. I must have went through her entire romance at least twice. She had such a sweet and innocent disposition I couldn't resist. :)

My absolute favorite romance though is the Imoen mod. Yes, I know im such a perv for romancing the half sister.
