Giving up Bhaalspawn essence as a sorceror/shadow dancer

GrumGrum Member, Mobile Tester Posts: 2,099
For classes with innate powers that come through being god-born, does giving up Charname's Bhaalspawn essence mean that Charname loses said powers?

A sorceror for example: lvl 30, atop the world. Gives up the divine spark, becomes a lvl 30 commoner...

Indeed, your question is based on a false assumption.

While the assumption can't be proven, it is not a totally unreasonable guess. We never hear of Charname's mother having a special heritage, so Bhaal is a much more likely source for any innate powers Charname possesses.

Losing those powers when giving up the essence is at least a possible scenario, though the fact that you can still get "adventuring with your loved one"-epilogue seems to indicate otherwise. OTH even a level 30 commoners is still a force to be reckoned with ;)

Actually the assumption is a pretty great one, to explain how someone could gain the magical powers of an otherwise-totally-ridiculous kit like the Shadowdancer. "It's because you have divine power in your blood." Suddenly the non-sensical becomes sensible. It's perfectly good headcanon.

But, it doesn't necessarily follow that you would like your powers after giving up the Bhaal Essence. It has already done its work upon your soul; give up the essence and you give up the chance to rise to divinity, but how it affected your abilities since years earlier need not change...

Well, you still have your sorcerer/shadowdancer abilities when your divine essence is stolen by Irenicus. It appears that only the spell-like abilities your character receives are from your divine heritage.

And you also turn into the slayer at that point...
