@paulsifer42@Arveragus : Hrm... in simplest terms, the old audio formats (WAVC and ACM) were older codecs that were proprietary Interplay/BioWare audio compression. They're old (but still sound pretty good - Charles Deenen knows what he's doing) and creating them is a pain in the butt because nobody uses them anymore except these older IE-based games.
OGG Vorbis on the other hand is a newer, open source format (that's continually being improved), with better overall compression and most importantly up-to-date tools for the creation and editing of the files.
Altogether, this makes life much easier for modders and better for users as I believe a typical tactic was to "ship" a mod with the files compressed to OGG to save space, and then uncompress them to straight up WAV files so the game could play the files. Now, everyone saves the space and the game handles the playback no problem.
*Mind blown* I can't wait for the game anymore! Hmmm, maybe i should get some potential voice actors together and voice the entire game.... Oh god, the amount of life that would be wasted on that.
