The overall UI style is great, but portraits are too close to each other, IMHO. Other than that, it's a fresh take from both BG1 and BG2 styles. It just needs some polish (clock, etc.).
- the dialogue window is a bit smaller than the original when minimized, now we can't even see two full lines of text but one and about two thirds of the second one.
I don't think its the dialogue box that's smaller, but rather the font is larger.
I don't want to say it, but I'm a little underwhelmed The contrast is quite intense - it's detracts away from what's happening inside, where the action is For me, the UI shouldn't be so fancy, the gold borders are hurting it. That blue is really clashing with what's happening on screen as well. Also the text box really distresses me, it's incredibly thin and should be as wide as the bottom section or at least graphically and intelligently incorporated in with the design. It looks just 'plonked in' ... although I'm guessing this and a lot of the nuances are still being developed? Also in agreement with the portraits, but they were going to be nigh impossible to keep in line with the previous set ... if I were to get my hands on high-res versions, I may be able to have a play around with them on Photoshop.
Also, I'm not seeing a weapon switch button I so desperately wanted - having the ability to switch from bow to sword and shield for example.
I hate complaining about such things online because I always feel as if I'm in the wrong and yet another troll trolling all the hard work these guys have done.
Edit: took a stab at having a play around with it myself, looks quite dull ... yeah I don't know
*shrugs* (btw I am still eternally grateful at everything you've all done and am still incredibly excited to play!)

That may be the case, probably that's also why I thought it's some different font. My mistake.
If I can complain a little. When I saw it for the first time it looked somehow strange. Portraits look something like a little "naked" (or in other words like photos on the cork board or something like that). And also I'm more worried that it will look worse when there will be less NPCs (& less portraits). I would make there a one of those shiny horizontal lines to go up to the under the bottommost portrait (if there is less than 6 portraits).
But you know it's only my personal opinion. And also maybe in game maybe it will look different and better.
Its ok to complain as long as its done in a civil manner. Some of the stuff you don't like is unlikely to be changed, but I personally hope to see better weapon selection in the future if Overhaul can manage it.
@Jaxsbudgie As long as you aren't hurling insults and being rude about it.....you aren't a troll just for stating your preferences. So you pass the Not-A-Troll test
I really thank the screenshot and that is what we have all been asking on the forums for the last days (I have personally), so thanks.
I prefer the look on the Ipad screenshots so I hope it will finally have a similar look to them. Anyhow whatever it finally looks like I will definately enjoy BGEE, so thank you Overhaul for the hard work.
Praises: - Whooo, we get a screenshot! - It takes up my entire monitor and then some! - I love the goldish/sepia icons! - The area looks very nice - I wonder how well the zoom on the details will look. - I spy new buttons. I wanna click... :P
Complaints: - the righthand bar looks overcrowded, and poor portraits are bumping into each other. Could you move some of the action buttons from there to the left side, and make room for some separators between portraits? - The dialog/battle log box looks too small. Why isn't it as wide as the whole bottom bar? Why only one line of text is clearly visible?
Final thoughts: - You still got 11 days till ground zero, that's plenty of time for additional tweaking! - Keep on trucking, guys, we love you!
(I humbly apologize for overuse of exclamation marks in this post. I'm a bit excited)!
@Razor Yep, what you linked looks good, is not so flashy. And again, the argument against will be that we get back to the originals. Also, the dialogue box is waay better implemented there. The new GUI looks good indeed on an Ipad but for PC still needs improvements as far as I'm concerned.
I know you can't reveal much about your beta experience because of NDA, but did the devs say anything about hooded unarmored thieves? OK, it's a minor detail, but I'm just curious.

@Rhulqdahr
It actually is a new font. It had to be changed because the original one didn't support all characters for the new languages.

The portraits along the right really need borders around them, how else will they be highlighted? a 1pixel line????
I'm not sure if its a 1 pixel line but Neera is highlighted in the screenshot.

More quick slots for spells/weapons would be great, eventually though.
More important question;
I see Xzar. Where is Montaron?
Level 2 Armor = Leather Armor / Resistance Robe
Level 3 Armor = Chainmail Armor / Cloaked Robe
Level 4 Armor = Full Plate / Robe of Archmagi
You can use cheats with CLUACONSOLE:EnableCheatKeys() in BG2, then press CTRL+1 to display armor levels.
Imoen is unhooded because its a work in progress thing.

It makes the text really hard to read on large monitors. There's a reason larger books have 2 columns per page.
