Suggestions for a Two Person Party

YupImMadBroYupImMadBro Member, Mobile Tester Posts: 347
So my friend and I have played through the BG Saga numerous time but we are going to play through IWDEE together for the first time, each using one character. My question is, what would be a good pair of characters to play as? If one of the characters absolutely had to be an Archer kit, what should the other character be?

dwarven fighter cleric, or half elf fighter druid. It'd be kinda hard for a 2 man party wouldn't it???

@bengoshi Agreed especially for HoF mode.

if you want to experience kits and the awesome iwd:ee grandmastery you might want to try:

    berserker (7) > cleric
    kensai (13?) > mage

you'll have find traps and knock later on, so thief is not an absolute requirement. i take backstabbing out of the equation because i think it's too much of a hassle in iwd

of course this will still mostly be *a lot* worse than fmt + fmc, but late-game it will suddenly become better (those high cleric levels are going to shine, and the kensage will be truly devastating)

talking non-hof...dunno what kensai level is the best, maybe 13 is unnecessary

edit: if one had to be archer, the other could be fmt

Try out a Bounty Hunter. It's so awesome how they have a special long range trap-setting ability.

A Priest of Talos is also really fun.

We are thinking about doing a FMT and a Fighter/Druid.

That sounds great. Which one will you play?

I will be the FMT as I have the most experience playing through the BG saga multiple times. My friend has only played the Archer class and I have a feeling that the Fighter/Druid will be better suited for him.

Does anyone have weapon proficiency suggestions for our two characters?

    FMT
    1. two weapon style and mace (mace is most important)
    2. longsword or staff or maybe even scimitar i guess
    3. bastard sword and hammer (both essential)
    4. two handed sword (hint: you'll probably find use for a certain twohander because your arcane casting won't be that potent to counter mages)

some other other options are good too - flail, katana, axe, halberd

    F/D
    1. two weapon style and scimitar
    2. sling
    3. club (there's a certain club that compliments your two character setup)

    I'd suggest:
    FMT: longsword, mace, longbow
Kensei 9 -> Druid: scimitar, TWF

@Wowo can reflect on going through IWDEE with 2 characters.

I would advice FMT + FMC.

That's a lot of versatility crammed into two characters.

It's quite an obscene combination really and makes use of the best weapons in the game.

If one PC is an Archer, I would go either Hale-Elf FMC, Half -Orc Fighter/Cleric or Half-Elf Blade/ Skald.

I played with an FMT and a Cleric.

Cleric was the healer and was able to handle all locations with undead after Dragon's Eye, Turn Undead is amazing at high level. FMT did everything else.

    Fighter/Cleric -- Thief/Mage

I think It's perfect this way.

I have just finished a run with a dwarven Fighter/Thief and a Totemic Druid. It was fun and not overly difficult.

The spirit animals of the Totemic Druid were quite effective once she reached reach level 10, since they are immune to normal weapons and therefore pretty much invulnerable. The spirit wolf is also a good Troll killer with its elemental attack (very useful in Dragon's Eye and Wyrm's Tooth).
With all the powerful items you can find or purchase my fighter/thief ended with -22 AC, and the True Grandmastery tweak of the BG2 Tweaks mod allowed him to be an amazing tank.
