So, what will happen if, for example, the game between England and Iceland ends in a 1:1 draw, and yet England win on penalties at last. How many points will @Montresor_SP gain in this case?
  • FinneousPJFinneousPJ Member Posts: 6,455
@JuliusBorisov Zero points for guessing the wrong outcome. If Iceland wins, 2 points, I guess. But the point if the game ends 0-0, guessing 1-0 shouldn't give points if England wins on penalties. The game ended in a score of 0-0; penalty shots are a totally different matter.

@JuliusBorisov To compromise perhaps 1 pt for guessing the right team to advance and 2 pts for guessing the correct outcome be that game results or penalty result?

Does it necessarily has to be with scores? With work we have points like this:

    Per country correct:
    Quarter final 75
    Half final100
    Final 125
    Winner 150

@Doubledimas We aren't in quarter finals yet, though. Or do you mean guessing the team that goes into QF gets you 75 pts? That's a bit inflated compared to our pts system before.

It is, but prevents issues with extra time/penalties and correct guessing. And you have to predict what team is going through to the QF and beyond either way, regardless of a draw during the regular time.

Well, in this thread we have a match-by-match predictions, and it's been quite fun so far. It showed its value during the WC 2014.

    This is what I offer.

If someone predicts a draw after additional time, and the match really ends in a draw, it automatically gives 1 point. If this person rightly predicts the result of the penalty shoot-out, it gives him 1 more point. If the result of the penaly shoot-out is different, then only 1 point remains.

If someone predicts a win for one of the teams in that situation, this person gets 0 points, as the main and additional time ended in a draw.

    @JuliusBorisov Sounds good!

So sad to see international football retire from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

    Predictions for next round
    Germany 2 Slovakia 0
    Spain 2 Italy 1
    France 2 Ireland 0
    England 1 Iceland 0
Switzerland 1 Poland 1 (draw seems most likely. Don't know who would win on penalties. I'll pick Poland overall since I think they have the better chance to win in regulation time)
Croatia 2 Portugal 1 (I could see this going to extra time)
    Wales 2 Northern Ireland 0
    Belgium 2 Hungary 0

Extra credit Copa America Prediction: Argentina beat Chile to avenge last time. Messi wins an international tournament as Ronaldo falls to the Croats after failing to win a single match in the easiest group in either tournament, confirming his place as the greatest player of our generation (and I would say all-time).

Extra extra credit to copy @sparkleav below: The UK remains in the EU. I think the Jo Cox murder was the turning point.

@booinyoureyes It should be France (not Spain) vs Republic of Ireland ;) Don't you think any of those games will end in a draw (after the additional time)?

BTW, Ronaldo played quite well yesterday, it was not his fault the team kept conceding goals.

At least I got some points :p

    Match 1: Switzerland v Poland: 0-2

    Match 2: Croatia v Portugal: 0-2

    Match 3: Wales v Northern Ireland: 2-1

    Match 4: Hungary v Belgium: 0-1

    Match 5: Germany v Slovakia: 1-0

    Match 6: Italy v Spain: 2-1

Match 7: France v Republic of Ireland: 0-1

    Match 8: England v Iceland: 2-0

And just to throw this in, I predict Britain will remain, in the EU referendum :D

Fixed. I'll add the draws as well

True, but in both previous matches he was horrendous

Wait... why do my predictions on who gets out of the groups not count? I know I missed one matchday, but we can just eliminate group A

    Spain 2- Italy 1
    England 1 - Iceland 0.

Sorry guys, I didn't have much time lately, but I'll give my predictions for 1/8 later today. Great matches we've had lately. I'm positively surprised how Hungary played with Portugal. Shame they didn't win this game and throw out Portugese from the tournament. That would be something.
  • sparkleavsparkleav Member Posts: 871
Well I got my referendum prediction wrong
  • JuliusBorisovJuliusBorisov Member, Administrator, Moderator, Developer Posts: 22,754
    Predictions for 1/8:

Switzerland v Poland - 1:1, Poland win on penalties.
    Croatia v Portugal - 1:0.
    Wales v Northern Ireland - 1:0.
    Hungary v Belgium - 1:2.
    Germany v Slovakia - 2:0.
Italy v Spain - 1:1, Spain win on penalties.
    France v Republic of Ireland - 3:1.
    England v Iceland - 1:0.

Wait... why do my predictions on who gets out of the groups not count? I know I missed one matchday, but we can just eliminate group A

I'll recount the points a little bit later, then, if nobody disagrees.

So, let's do it, shall we? :)

Switzerland v Poland - 1:2 - It will be a very tough game, where Poland will score 2 goals surprisingly quickly and will be loosing initiative with the passing of time. The Swiss will throw hurricane attacks on Poles during the last quarter of hour, but manage to score only once. Lewandowski finally gets his goal (or even two) and will be the hero of the day. I predict a few yellow cards, maybe even a red one.

Wales - Northern Ireland - 3:1 - Welsh will crush the Irish and Bale's talent will explode once again scoring twice.

Croatia - Portugal - 2:3 - It will be the best match of the Portugese on this tournament and Ronaldo's genius will appear once again. Unfortunately for them, it will also be their last game on the tournament, because they will bounce off the "Glikazdan" (Glik/Pazdan duo) in their next game against Poles.

France - Republic of Ireland - 2:0 - Nice and easy win for France. This will be the match to forget about.

Germany - Slovakia - 2:1 - It will be surprisingly hard game for Germany, and not an easy win. Slovakia will be proud after their battle with mighty Germans.

Hungary - Belgium - 2:2 (Belgium wins on penalties) - Another crazy match for Hungarians, unfortunately without a happy ending this time. But they will be remembered, that's for sure!

Italy - Spain - 1:0 - A boring, chess game, Spain will play their tiki-taka, but Bonucci will earn his right to be among the best defenders on Euro'16. Italian wall will be impenetrable for the Spanish.

England - Iceland - 2:0 - A wake up match for English lions. This will be the end of a dream for proud Iceland nation.

France need to play very fast after that first goal. I don't think they can.. Seems like they're 'somewhere else'. I can only hope for Ireland score again.

I must say that France didn't impress me particularly, up to now. They might make it through this turn, even going to penalties, but I doubt that they'll get to the final.

Nice I'm back in prediction form.

    GER-SVK 3-1

Belgium is hard to predict for me because they seem so susceptible to having a "bad day".

    HUN-BEL 1-2
