Even worse than restartitis

Clearly, many of us have restartitis and that makes it hard to finish a runthrough. However, I can't even bring myself to start over from SoA (much less ToB). I always have to start all the way from BG1 and import my character so that I can get the tomes and pantaloons, and to experience the story and challenge from the very beginning. Surprisingly, it's easy for me to get through BG1. The restartitis doesn't hit until about halfway through BG2 for some reason. I wonder if anybody else is the same. When does your restartitis typically hit?

It's worse for me since I made a mod. Now it's play for a few hours, change something in my mod, reinstall all mods, play for a few hours, change something in my mod, reinstall, etc.

Much more time-consuming than garden-variety restartitis.

Modding compared to downloading mods is like buying fresh food compared to frozen food. Fresh food takes more time to get ready and requires more preparation but in the end it tastes better.

My restartitis hits me whenever I think of something potentially strong or with great roleplay possibilities.
. The latest is Fighter/Druid using HLA elemental transformation combined with GWW. Ended up being not so good

I have the exact same thing. To me it isn't Baldur's Gate or Baldur's Gate 2, it's a Trilogy that includes everything, including the expansions. I feel incomplete if i start a new character in Baldur's Gate 2, I have to complete Baldur's Gate with him first, and then import him.

What makes it even more frustrating is that I play no-reload games, so when/if I die in Baldur's Gate 2, I'm thrown all the way back to candlekeep.

I also have the same with the tomes and Pantaloons, I'm a perfectionist so I have to complete everything and get everything. I've gotten it down to taking me 10-12 hours, to explore all the maps and complete all the quests in Baldur's Gate.

Mine hit very early, in Candlekeep or after the ambush. My character is too low level and quite boring so I finally don't play him. I have a lot of level 1 characters that I never play.
But once I started to play the game and go beyond level 3, I will continue the character until he dies (no-reload).

I just don't bother with any quests and enemies until I get a full 6 man party with 1-2 tank and 4-5 ranged. Usually I just ignore everything and get Montaron (get Xzar killed), Kivan, Kagain, Edwin and Viconia. A lot of meta gaming involved but I just feel like a lvl 1 team involving Imoen, Montaron, Xzar, Jaheira and Khalid is no fun.

Whenever I get restaritis I just completely reroll my CHARNAME in the current savegame. I usually get restartitis because my character has become too powerful so by the end of ToB I usually end up with a Jester or Beastmaster :D The new character is always much weaker because of the loss of Tomes/Tears/Lum bonuses and that forces me to reconsider equipment allocation and strategies to make him viable.

Truthfully, the jarring experience of being caged with NPCs I abandoned long ago makes me restart a full play through more than anything else and I usually lose interest before Chapter 3 since chateaux Irenicus took me out of the comfortable RP I had established with in he first game.

I have no issues running a full playthrough if I start in BG2

Restartitis has thus far prevented me from even finishing BG1. The furthest I've ever got was just after the Cloakwood Mines. I've never even been to Baldur's Gate! I keep changing my mind about what class to play, which mods to install (or wait until a 2nd playthrough to try), my stats, what difficulty to play on, etc.

I'm trying to at least beat BG1 once and figure out which mods I like/want for it before SoD and the 1.4 Patches come out (when I will of course, start a new game from Candlekeep lol.) So it looks like I'm going to experience BG1 -> SoD -> BG2 for my first playthrough of the Baldur's Gate saga.

EDIT: Oh, and speaking of the Pantaloons. Serious question: Is there any real way to get the Golden Pantaloons as a good character (role-playing wise). Example: I just can't seem to justify, say, a Paladin lying about being the cleaner and jacking the pantaloons.

When playing a paladin (many of my runs) I will usually have Imoen go upstairs alone and get the pantaloons. I just RP that my paladin has no clue where she got them.

Because of my Restartitis, I *still* haven't finished Throne of Bhaal. I find for some reason the game's pacing just hard-stops as soon as I start ToB.

Often i get stuck in the underdark. I just dislike that arc, there is no point for irenicus to go there....

Yes there is. He needs the drow to create a distraction at Suldanessalar, so he can get in and to the Tree of Life. Even someone like Irenicus can't just waltz in there alone.

My restartitis usually hits when I've done most of the stuff in the city of Baldur's Gate and then again in ToB after leaving Saradush for good :I

    my restartitis is getting a little better, only about 50% of the games I play do I start a new one, usually what happens is, if I go out of town of work a bunch of 12+ hour days in a row, I kind of forget the current team im on and restart a new one, I used to be so bad that I would restart a game 15 minutes in, but now I can usually make it all the way to the end, and I have found 2 ways to help get rid of my restartitis;

way 1: if I don't plan on having a team of 6, I just have my main character, imoen and xan, and try and get all the good items and beat the game as fast as possible, best part is, when I hit sarevok in the end I will usually only have around 70 000 xp which means I start BG2 at a lower level so if I want jaheria or minsc on my team they will be a lower level and hence have a better chance of getting higher HP on their level ups

way 2: if I plan on having a 6 person team, I do everything in my power to uncover every square nanometer of map, I clear out all the fog of war as possible, I visit every single area, I do every single quest and loot absolutely everything I possibly can, and for some reason I find this quite fun to do, and usually by the end of bg1 without grinding for it I will hit around 550 000 GP, ( before I would normally hit around 380 000 GP just going to get the good items and completely ignoring were wolf island since there really isn't anything there of major value)

and even every once in a while I will actually go back to a game that I have started weeks or months ago and finish that game up, I remember at one point I was playing 3 games at once, so, I am getting better these days, but I am not quite cured yet

I disagree.... huge golems, rakshasa, a dragon, a vampire clan, assassins, two essences of bhaal.... What more does he need. They made filler material where they could use annoying creatures like illithid and beholders :p.

Bg1 I go through with plenty of joy and no stopping due to disinterest, the underdark is where I tend to skip a lot of encounters.

Heh, the Underdark is actually one of my favourite areas. Build your party right and play smart, Beholders and Illithids are nothin'. Plus, there's the Sahuagin arc before! And that one is just awesome.

plus the underdark provides a lot of awesome goodies that even hold up into ToB, like firetooth, shield of the sentinel, girdle of frost giant str, good stuff

I too am not rather fond of the underdark section, but that's probably just because I am not to big of a fan of dungeons in general :/

@Buttercheese - :hushed: You play Dungeons & Dragons but you don't like dungeons? ... erm ... run that by us again ...

If you ever find yourself near the dungeon with me, you'll come in the dungeon as one person and come out of the dungeon as another person -> a DUNGEON MASTER.

@Buttercheese - which might be just about okay if you eat only foods which can be cooked by boiling. (Wenn man ein deutscher Bauer, der nur Würstchen, Kartoffeln und Kohl gegessen, dann vielleicht könnte man überleben!)

For me it's usually when my character concept start to gain momentum and reaches the part where she/he becomes just as strong as planned. Then in a blink of an eye the rest become so obvious (ok, so this build did come out as strong/effecient as planned.. but what if I try THIS build instead!?!). Depending on builds it can be anything from level ~6-8 in BG1 to ~13-15 in BG2. I very, very rarely go beyond spellhold (which I usually do late in SoA) or move into ToB. Sometimes it can depend on when I get certain items rather than certain levels/skills.

Shadows of Amn Chapters 2 is my wall. Sometimes I just screw around Athkatla doing minor jobs and stealing stuff until I have the 15 grand, then skip right to Brynnlaw. Everything after Chapter 2 is great.

When I'm a thief I just do the Balduran's Armour quest. It's a quest that only comes up for thieves. You buy Balduran's Plate, visit the shadow thief guild, talk to the seller girl and then [file not found] 200000gp!!!

What is this mysterious "mouse magic" you speak of?
