It would be simpler if it was a DirectX 12 game as it would already be programmed using modern techniques and would hopefully have less of a mess in the code. They have to clean up and optimize 15 years old code made for Windows 95 and make it work well in modern OSs, write an easily portable framework etc.
Have you ever had to redo any work done by other people? It's normally easier to restart from scratch, but they just can't afford that.
I had hoped the all nighters the developers were going through would make it possible to keep the release date. It didn't, so what? My preorder remains, I can wait.
Not sure it's possible to do that @skyline818, but I agree - it would be nice. It would also be torture. Imagine. You roll an awesome character today. Then wait FIVE days to begin. Ugh.
@reedmilfam That's a good point. It would be quite torturous. I'm not especially patient with regard to waiting for release dates. I would get too excited, having the perfect character ready, then having to wait days on end before I could finally begin adventuring with him.
