As the plan is going now, I'm done with Original Sin right before Wasteland is released. That'll tide me over til Dragon Age in November, which I should plow through right in time for Pillars of Eternity at the end of the year. That should keep me busy until The Witcher 3 is released at the end of February.
From then on, it's reiterations of the previous games 'til Tides of Numenera at the end of 2015.
Nonsense. This is part of the rewards offered during the kickstarter. These boxes will be made according to supporters demand. That's just meeting the expectations of some of the people who actually funded the development. The game aims to appeal to old school RPG gamers and some (many ?) of them like boxes with maps/manuals/etc. The deal with Paradox transfers all handling of the rewards to Paradox, without transfering any raised money, as explained here.
The two CEOs were careful to point out that this is a business partnership only. Paradox will not have any hand in the development or design of the game, and Obsidian is not handing over any of the funds raised on Kickstarter to Paradox. Instead, this partnership frees Obsidian up from having to worry about marketing, meeting with press, heading to trade shows, or setting up distribution models. Urquhart and his team can focus on making Pillars of Eternity, and screw all the business stuff. Kickstarter fulfillment will also be handled by Paradox.
Can confirm. The Obsidian/Paradox relationship is business-only, and all of the funds that were raised through the Kickstarter are going directly towards development.
This is actually BETTER than many Kickstarters, most of whom have to spend large amounts of their funding on backer rewards.
Also, side-note, but I've met a bunch of guys and gals from Paradox (including their CEO, Fred), and DAMN they are awesome. Plus, they drink like fish. Awesome Swedish fish.
*scriver abstains from commenting on the vile rumours of any potential relationships with Cthulhu which may or may not have resulted in Swedes as a people developing fish-like traits and/or appearances.
I'm completely honest when I'm saying there would be legitimately no better way to spend the money than a box full of all manner of feelies.
They could've skipped the whole game part and just filled the box with really expensive stuff and I would've been content.
@Erg, I notice you've stopped arguing entirely for a couple days now, and instead each of your posts is just dismissing whatever we say entirely and laughing at it. That's not very nice.
So many games, so little time... I have so many games I'm playing or want to play in the near future. There's Eternity, Wasteland 2, Divinity Original Sin, Shadowrun Returns Dragonfall,GRID Autosport, Project CARS, and Euro Truck Simulator 2. Then there are a bunch of old games that I just got but haven't played yet, like XCOM Enemy Unknown/Within, XCOM Bureau something, Book of Unwritten Tales sequel, Consortium, Race, Race 07, GTR, GTR2, and GT Legends. Too bad I have to work to make a living.
Obsidian presented Pillars of Eternity's backer beta live at the Paradox Fancon at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany.
This is a 25 minute rundown of the beta where Chris Saywer walks us through one of the quests in the beta. Everything depicted in this beta an optional part of the game and does not spoiler anything from the story.
edit- i'm probably not doing the game justice here, but it looks like a nwn-style game with better graphics, a less annoying camera angle and a better interface!
I am a backer, though not through Kickstarter. I backed them through their official website. There is neither an e-mail in my inbox, nor anything in the backer-portal for me
PS: Apparently, the Beta was delayed, according to the official forums -.- Took me only an hour to find a random forumpost about this (They really could have put an announcement on the frontpage, really.)

FYI there is a seperate part of the forum for backer beta.

All lies and slander! Slander, I say!
