I am sleep deprived and want to talk about animals, so y'all gonna have to bear with me right now.

Get it? Bear? Haha, I am so clever and original.

So, we obviously all love Boo, obviously (and if you don't, get flippedy flop out). But what about aaaaaall those other cute (and sometimes not so cute) animal sidekicks out there? Like Artax from The neverwinding Story, Ash's Pikachu from Pokémon, Momo from Avatar, Scooby Doo from, well, Scooby Doo, Ghost from The Song of Ice and Fire/ Game of Thrones and so on and so forth. Well, and I guess Chewbacca and even R2-D2 from Star Wars kinda count as well :I

Mayuge (or Eyebrows in English), ostrich, from Tide-Line Blue.

Babu, zombie cat, from Sankarea.

Diaho, space cat, from Banner of the Stars.

Mukkuru, tiger-ish, from Utawarerumono.

My first candidate would be undead monkey (Jack) from Pirates of the Caribbean


The other was Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy, but I don't know whether he counts. He's more a plant than animal, and he's part of the main cast, not a sidekick. But he was still awesome.

Mokona is way older than xxxHolic tho, remember the good ol Magic Knight Rayearth days???
(And I bet she was around even before that.)


And Totoro can hardly be considered a sidekick, he is the main character if you ask me o.o

I agree with @Buttercheese , Totoro is powerful forest spirit, the little spirits are his sidekicks.
