As a Xan's Romance fan I really see no problem in making this carryover in a way that it depends on first dialogue when you meet character. Like one answer for romance, one for 'who the hell are you???', one for 'haven't I kill you lol?' and one for the former party member.
There is no carryover of romance from BG to BG2 with Kivan - there is no actual romance with him in BGNPC Project, if I remember it right. But anyway carryovers were made in mods so I don't see why Beamdog can't carry romances over the same way
the kivan mod assumes he was in the party thats about it.
I kind of felt this way about Rasaad's romance before SOD, to be honest. Like, my archer flirted with him like crazy in BG1, and in BG2 he's like "hey, stranger, my name's Rasaad, how are you?" Come to think of it, it's probably a good thing he can deflect arrows, because that is not the sort of thing you say to a short-tempered alcoholic killing machine who thought you'd shared something real.
According to @Troodon80 that's not a bug, there simply is no new dialouge in that regard o.o So, basically, this is a feature request.
Unfortunately, I don't know that it's a REALISTIC feature request. Back in 2000 (when BG2 was made), you need to to consider 2 things: 1) BG1 had no romances in the vanilla game. EE's extra characters added romances. The pre-existing characters only have romances if you install a mod. 2) There is no way to transfer world states between BG1 and BG2. In other words, there's no mechanism that tells the game by default that you were romancing Rasaad. The limitations of the Infinity Engine are the problem here. I know we're all used to games like Dragon Age or Mass Effect importing our previous saves and/or world states, but BG2 has no mechanism like that.
I'd settle just for a token like was mentioned earlier in NWN that "triggers" a dialogue in BG2 to continue where you left off. Maybe have them give you a special item "in case things go badly" to remember them by and have that be the trigger to continue when you meet again.
Neera has a dialogue in BG2 where she mentions the romance in BG1, however, you have to use a console command to get it. I was told (this was like two years ago) that there where going to be flags patched in so that such dialogue would occur naturally. Guess not...
