Why the mew portraits are so different from original?

I was wondering why is that. The original BG1 portraits are beautiful; very various but still there is some consistency in them. The new ones are completely different: blurred, with not as many details and basically looking kinda IWDish. Anyone knows who is the author of the original ones? Or where can I find some custom/fan made ones that suit the original esthetics?

Mike Sass was an artist of original BG1 portraits.
You can find portraits in other threads on this forum, for example https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/41704/custom-pc-npc-portraits#latest and https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/49253/hero-of-a-thousand-faces-portraits#latest

And to me, Thea Kent, Mad Bee and other artists involved in SoD portraits, have done a great job, I'm liking them a lot. They have created one of the best portraits for half-orcs I have ever seen.
Only Corwin is somewhat similar in style to the older ones. Any possibility for some fan remakes?
On the other hand, Imoen's new look is OK.
