Small Party / Level Caps

I've never actually tried this, but coming back to the game due to MMO's burning me out to no end and needing a reminder as to why I love fantasy games.

Have any of you ever tried to play through with just Your hero maybe one rogue (traps). Or party of 3. To try push your levels higher. Or is there a level cap for BG EE?

Thanks,

There is indeed an experience cap. All the experience you gain is divided between your party members, so if you have a smaller party you will level up faster, but you'll still stop leveling when you reach the cap.
The cap with SoD is 500 000. I don't remember what the cap was without SoD. In BG2 it's something like 8 million.

Without SOD it's 161k which can be easily reached by a party of 6. Further XP is not completely lost as you will get it if you transfer your character to BG2 though.

@Chnapy Are you sure? I just tried with a Charname that capped in chapter 6 (so all XP after that moment should be added for SoA) and at the beginning of BG2, he has only 161k.

It's a "bug" that occured after the patch 2.0 and never fixed (i suppose).
The same happened importing that character to SoD, my advice is to use a level cap remover.
I always play bg with it, the cap is way too low for my tastes...

Going Basilisk Farming right away gives you ~27k and is easily done solo even on Insane.

From that moment every Party member you meet newly gets a instant level up to 5ish~ making it even more easy to reach level cap and to run a small party.

if you feel brave you can get a Invisibility potion and a Protection from Petrification scroll and get another 23k xp on the top of Durlags tower... (no stunning ghul to help you here but doable ... and you have to walk through a stun trap if it gets you you have to wait a minute)

i personally always Boil my party down to the 3 baseneeds..a mage for haste and fighting other mages , a thief to pick Locks and find traps (lvl 6 is fine here) and someone who can Heal and Buff preferable a cleric since he can just flood levels one and two with Bless(6 rounds)/Chant(10rounds)

but once my 3-4 base guys have reached around 100k~ i fill the group up to not waste too much xp.

(people on 16K cap will still leech the xp off rewards even if its not used)

Thank you all for the feedback and advice. Will play around with a few different Idea's. I'm normally not one to ever mod games. So not sure about the cap remover.

You can always remove the cap with mods anyway. As long as you don't hit a level where you'd get HLA's everything will work correctly,
