Guys, I suggest something like this: https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/16558/weidu-mod-silver-staff-of-aule/p1

This mod adds the silver and cold iron properties, and a bonus to damage and thac0 vs. lycanthropes, to the Aule's Staff which is sold at the store in the Ulgoth's Beard Inn, providing an additional weapon able to damage Greater Wolfweres

Wands of frost & paralyzation are pretty effective....against almost everything in the game for that matter...especially doom guards.

Wand of paralyzation doesn't work on greater wolfweres any more. It says "Unaffected by effects from wand", and they don't even roll a save. Unless that's what it says when a save is made without being shown. Are wand saving throws not shown in the EE's, or is that message telling you the wand will never work, which is how I interpreted it?
The wands problem looks like another bug, reported on Redmine. Right, @Tresset ?
@bengoshi That sounds like a mod to me...
@tresset , no mods. The wand of paralyzation returned the "Unaffected by effects from wand" message every time against Palin in unmodded SoD 2.1

I usually skip this one, but with my newest playthrough I may do it again - just for achievement. I don't like that area, and it seems strangely out of place, much more than Shandalar's quest, or even Durlag's Tower. Besides, when I reach Ulgoth's Beard, I'm usually maxed with experience point, so there is no point anyway.
And killing Karoug is a chore.

The quest was originally part of an expansion wasn't it?

As there is now a follow on part of BG, perhaps it would have been a good idea to restore Ulgarth's Beard back to it's original status?

Post defeating Sarevok, it makes more sense. Charname and party have become immensly succesful adventurers with experience and equipment. The money has been rolling in, as a career move, what else is there for Charname to do?
