well I uninstalled the game and removed all files and restarted the game using the betaV1.3.2053 and left it play through the videos and went to single player pre-generate and tried to create one like I have done in past and when I got to the part were I was rerolling to show that I had one at 90 I took screenshot and everything went black here are both screenshots could not get past the creating of a character and taking of a screenshot using F12
Ok, at this point I"m going to need you to run the filecheck.exe as I posted up earlier. Post up the zipped file here and let us look at what your files look like.
have you figured anything out yet? Do we know why I keep having problems with the file? Also is this Visual C++ file still needed now that I have gotten you what you needed or can it be uninstalled?
Apologies for the length of time on a response @goblindeals we're still trying to figure this one out...we're not ignoring you just racking our brains trying to determine what the issue might be.
First off, regarding the black screen - screen shot issue you mention: The black screen issue is actually NOT game related. This is a function of Steam and taking screenshots. The "F12" key / steam functionality of taking screenshots in games is entirely dependent upon your steam installation and it's capabilities. Why you'd be getting your screen going completely black at the point you hit F12 to screenshot is beyond me, that would be a question for steam support.
Back to the game, at this point the zip of file hashes you uploaded from the application I had you run indicates you currently have v1.3 of BG:EE installed.
If you could do us the favor of upgrading to the 2.2 version of BG:EE and then re-running the file checker as per previous instructions it would be helpful. You don't need to uninstall / reinstall, just go into steam and set your game version to the non-1.3 version and it should download/update your game to the 2.2 version.
Before running the file check application, please verify (by starting the game) that the interface shows you the game is at 2.2.66.0 version (as per my screenshot above).
Please upload the updated sha256.zip file here and we'll get it verified also.
Lastly, you don't have multiple versions of the game (beamdog, steam, gog, Non-EE/Vanilla) installed do you?
I do not have multiple versions on my pc, I have the 2.2 on my pc now, I do not play this version as it is hard to read very small gives me a headache.
here are screen shots in the different sizes of 2.2 and 1.3 screens showing why I do not play the 2.2 version
@goblindeals You can enable UI Scaling from Options > Graphics; that will make the screen the same size in 2.2 as it is in 1.3.
While the QA guys are reviewing the log file you uploaded, I'd like to get a more granular view of what you're experiencing. The following may seem horribly tedious, but indulge me nonetheless. You can follow these steps with your current installation, after enabling UI Scaling so you can see what you're doing.
I'm going to be asking for screenshots periodically below. If you're on Windows, you can do this by pressing the PrintScrn button on your keyboard; it will automatically save the screenshot to a folder in your Documents/Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition directory. That should work more reliably than F12 on Steam.
Okay, so from the Steam client:
1. Start the game 2. Take a screenshot. 3. Select "Baldur's Gate" 4. Select "Single Player" 5. Select "New Game"
That will get you to character creation. 1. Gender: Leave this set to Male. Leave the selected portrait set to the bald guy. 2. Race: Select Human. 3. Class: Select Fighter. Don't choose any kits. 4. Alignment: Select True Neutral. 5. Abilities: Don't reroll, but rearrange ability score points so that Strength is 18. 6. Skills: Assign two points in Long Sword, one point in Quarterstaff, and one point in Dagger. 7. Appearance: Leave everything here alone. Do the same for the Sound screen. 8. Name: Name your character "Test Dee Forums" 9. Take a screenshot of the character creation screen just before you press Accept 10. Difficulty: Set it to Normal, and choose Venture Forth
That will get you to the prologue chapter screen.
1. Take a screenshot. 2. Close the chapter screen. 3. Take a screenshot. 4. Open the Record screen by pressing the "R" key on your keyboard. 5. Take a screenshot. 6. Open the Inventory screen by pressing the "I" key on your keyboard. 7. Take a screenshot. 8. Return to the gameplay screen by pressing the "Esc" key on your keyboard 9. Go into the inn and speak to Winthrop. Choose dialogue options 2, then 2 10. In the store, go to the Buy/Sell menu. 11. Take a screenshot. 12. Buy a longsword and a suit of Leather Armor and a Small Shield. 13. Close the store screen by pressing Done 14. Open the Inventory screen. 15. Take a screenshot. 16. Save your game into an empty slot, naming the save "Test Dee Forums 1"
Quit the game, zip up the saved game and all the screenshots you took, and upload them in your next post.
also just to let you know everytime I go to run the file exe for the filecheck I get a security pop block and have to shut my security system off to run this program it is blocked by malware group win32.ruleblock.1
Looks from those screenshots like the problem fixed itself (in the last screenshot, none of the items in the character's inventory are unusable).
If you encounter the issue again, please post the exact steps (and screenshots) you took to get it to occur, like I posted above. Knowing as much as possible about what you did will help the QA team figure out what caused the problem in the first place.
but it works fine with the generation of the character's you have us create but when we reroll or select other formats it is not working fine also here is a screenshot of the malware with my security on your system check
Okay, first of all, this is the first time I've ever seen an unmodded game cause the issue you've described. The debugging process requires getting to a baseline of what's working and then changing variables until something breaks. Your post suggested that Fighters have equipment usability issues. What we've proven here is that the problem isn't with the Fighter class, because you just created a Fighter and had no issues.
But let's switch things up a little bit. We're going to add the following variables: Half-orc race, 19 Strength, Barbarian kit, and nonproficiency with Quarterstaff. Follow these steps:
1. Start the game 2. Take a screenshot. 3. Select "Baldur's Gate" 4. Select "Single Player" 5. Select "New Game"
That will get you to character creation. 1. Gender: Leave this set to Male. Leave the selected portrait set to the bald guy. 2. Race: Select Half-Orc. 3. Class: Select Fighter. Choose the Barbarian kit. 4. Alignment: Select Chaotic Neutral. 5. Abilities: Reroll once, then rearrange ability score points so that Strength is 19. 6. Skills: Assign two points in Long Sword, one point in Bastard Sword, and one point in Dagger. 7. Appearance: Leave everything here alone. Do the same for the Sound screen. 8. Name: Name your character "Test Dee Forums 2" 9.
16. Save your game into an empty slot, naming the save "Test Dee Forums 1"
will you need me to rerun the filecheck again or just screenshots every time I run it I have a new virus alert and have to shut my virus protection off to run it before it is run
I hope you don't think I'm wasting your time here. The reason I'm having you go through specific steps--or asking you to provide the specific steps you took to get the issue to occur--is because, for us on our end, we can't get the issue to happen under any of the scenarios we've tried. Which means that if your installation is truly unmodified, clean, and uncorrupted, then there's something you're doing that we haven't tried yet.
I've followed the steps I posted above and the character game out fine; I've also gone through similar steps but aiming to recreate the character you made in your first post, and that character also came out fine. If you're still managing to get a created character that isn't working, I need to know exactly what steps you're taking to get to that point. That's the only way we can help you.
will you need me to rerun the filecheck again or just screenshots every time I run it I have a new virus alert and have to shut my virus protection off to run it before it is run
You don't need to run the filecheck every time. It sounds like your antivirus is registering a false positive on that exe, but for what we're doing right now we don't need it.
It may help your eyes though if, right after Step 3, you choose Options, Graphics, and find the "Scale User Interface" option. Turn that on, select "Done", and then go back until you get to the Single Player option. That will make the screen a bit easier to see (both for you and for me when reviewing the screenshots).
ok Here is what I do just to let you know Lanch game Select buldar’s gate Single player Pregenerate character Gender – Female Race – Half Orc Fighter - Leaving it at Fighter no kit Chaotic Good Rerolled till got 90 or higher set where I wanted it Selected 1 long Sword, 1 Flail/ Morningstar, 1 longbow, 1 bastard sword Appearance leave alone Voice leave alone Name Character Export Export And name same as above Start Game Import Character File just created Appearance leave alone Sound leave alone Name leave alone Normal game Proceed
I have not had time to try what you are requesting but this is what I normally do or with a few changes on type of weapons etc but the normal steps if that helps trouble shoot, I have been working a lot and I am not sure when I will have time to test game, back to work I go
That does help, thanks. I'm still not seeing the issue you described, but there are nuances of difference between the two methods of character creation.

You'll need the official runtime from Microsoft: Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015. Select vc_redist.x86.exe when you attempt to download.
