The thing is: i decided to get rid of the long time collected teeth i pulled out over the years. So in my spare time between building my orc army, my lightsabre lessons and drinking blood with my undead buddies, i choose to solve this minor issue involving a self proclaimed hero running amok in this outback little place called Tristram. First i visit the nearby rogue camp to survey the seriousness of the problem.
The disease of the area is more sever, than i thought. There was an infested cavity even beside the camp i first visit. My immediate intervention was crucial. People keep up referring me as a necromancer, no matter how i insist that i'm a dentist. Nevermind. So, honestly i wonder how those people in that camp could hold on against these many undead and demon. Anyhow, i just scraped the spire of my teeth collection, so i continue to clear the decaying lands.
Measuring the true size of the work, that must be done i employed a young assistant to help me. With the young girl and some provisional assistance i managed to treat temporary the crisis at Tristram and rescue a scholarly collegue from his cumbersome state. With the report of the sage, i can locate now the root of the problem: the iffecient treatment of the prime evil Diablo. Now, i have the task to properly finish this incomlete work. On my way i visited an intresting establishment with a blood drinking female named the Countess (or maybe she bathed in blood?) and i explored a particularly big hole.
To travel east after Diablo, i had to remove an obstacle first: the demon queen Andariel, who take up residence in the local Monastery, blocking the way. I managed to resolve her blockade. Also, i returned a delicate tool to the local smith, Charsi and found another nice instrument for my dental work too in the process.
On my way i visited an intresting establishment with a blood drinking female named the Countess (or maybe she bathed in blood?) and i explored a particularly big hole.
So, allow me to get this straight. You visited a female, mentioned a bath and then you explored particularly big hole? What a naughty boy!
Now now, for your update overall... I like your approach to it.
Knowing everything I have to know - about Andariel, how she helped Diablo and about Lord of Terror himself, I've head out, together with my companion, in the direction of the Monastery's gates. On our way, in break between slaughtering minions of her, my rouge companion told me the legend about the Forgotten Tower and the treasure that can be found within. I agreed to visit the place, had we had a opportunity for it. My companion deserved some recompensation.
We found the tower, and it was infected by demons. The legends told about the Countess, who slaughtered virgins, and then bathed in their blood. The legends told true. We found the treasure, and I personally shortened the damned Countess by her head. Now, to the monastery...
I could tell the Monastery was once beautiful. A holy place. But now, it was desacrated and worthless, like my religion and beliefs. I'll do the best I can to help Rouges reclaim this place.
My companion told me about Horadric Mallus that can be found in the barracks. This magical hammer could enhance my weapon, so that I could kill Andariel more easily. It was worth a try. Corspes of Khazra and Fallen marked my way throught the barracks. And I finnaly found the blacksmith, and the demon who protected the Horadric Mallus. I could tell it was able to smash me easily with it's hellhammer, so I did my best to dodge incoming strikes. The rouge pierced it's body with arrows, bleeding the demon out. And then, I could strike and finish it off. The Mallus was ours, and I was glad bring it back to Charsi. I commissioned a powerful two-handed sword, and Charsi didn't dissapoint me. Andariel, here I come.
I've ventured deeper and deeper into the Monastery dungeons, and finally reached the final level of Catacombs... The smell of poison and blood was terrible, but the rouge and I had no intention to go back. The demoness' blood shall be spilled tonight.
The Demon Queen build herself a throne room. Such arrogance, to claim this place as her own. The battle started and swiftly Andariel has poisoned me with her foul magicks. Fortunately, I had some antidote potions and together with my rouge companion, we managed to bring Andariel down. Shortly after, effect of antidote ended, and I felt the poision getting to me. Was I going to die?
Fortunately, the Rouge used scroll of town portal and brought me back to Akara, who treated me. The good news were also brought to the rouge camp. Andariel was banished back to the abyss from where she came, the demons were fleeing and the corrupted rouges were regaining their minds. It was relieving. After all this time, having blood of innocent on my hands on behalf of Zakarum... I finally did a right thing.
I don't need my religion anymore. The man can do right with his own sense of justice.
Akara told me I haven't recovered yet, but I demanded Warriv to take me with his caravan to the East, where Diablo went. I'll recover on my way to Lut Gholein. I parted ways with my companion - I told her she should focus on helping rebuiilding and protecting her Order. She was a hero no lesser than I was. The Rouges will remember the name of Kyoko.
And you Diablo... brace yourself. I am coming for you...
Beorn had grown aware of a great evil in recent years but like many, hoped and prayed it was over with the events of Tristram. However, the corruption has metamorphosed in an unnatural fashion, so a force of nature must now gather the power of nature and focus it to destroy evil again.
While journeying to Tristram to investigate, he stopped at the camp to resupply and was greeted kindly by most folks, but warily by one. Kashya was not impressed, but Beorn realized that she was in a very difficult position as the leader of the camp defenders and that he would need help as well in the future so he decided to help in their efforts.
...had to cut it short, my wife's appointments for her work cancelled or rescheduled. Hopefully later this evening...
I see you've chosen to put all points into Vitality, leaving Dexterity at minimum. Let's see how it goes.
Vitaly is hands down the best stat. Especially when you're a caster and carry a pickled head around instead of a shield. It's not like it's going to block much, anyway
Vitality is one of the best stats (Zaraki confirms it can fail you), but not always (Mana Tank sorceress). As for Necromancers, dexterity is kinda a dump stat, especially for summoners. Summons are taking all physical attacks for you. And since block rate won't help you anyway countering Burning Souls, investing more in vitality seems like a good choice.
It's a big news, meaning David Brevik have been hired by Blizzard as an advisor for a new game which is in the works at Blizzard. The question is whether it's a new Diablo game, or a reworking of Diablo 2, or a completely new ARPG.
Given Brevik's recent visit to Blizzard, it may be true that he was hired to work on new Diablo project. However, Brevik could also be just invited to the anniversary party after Blizzcon. For now we can only speculate.
I bet one of the main reasons why they created this adviser role for him is that it comes with a nice ~50 page NDA to be strictly obeyed. You know, Dave can be a very talkative guy
In Luth Golein was hot, so i spent just as much time as was necessary there. Mummies, liches, zombies, and other foul inhabitants with rotten teeth. First i searched for the Horadric Cube, which is an impressive magical tool. Then i went to seek the Tomb of Tal Rasha. Unfortunately it took too much time to find the necessery items and informations for the entrance so i arrived a little late after Diablo. I defeated Duriel, the pet demon of the Prime Evils, but the dark wanderer and Mephisto eluded me.
So i went after them to Kurast. Kurast lays in the middle of a jungle. It's hot and wet. I wish back myself now to Luth Golein. Actually i visit back with the Horadric teleport stones to by a teleporting staff. I would like to spend as little time in this filthy jungle as possible.
That native oompa-loompa creatures has good teeth, because of their healthy eating habits, but this is all the good i can tell about them. Fortunately i reached the Durance of Hate, and Mephisto there and i took Mephisto's Soulstone. Diablo escaped again, but i'll reach the demon lord soon, i can feel it in my bones.
I imagined hell differently: with more chocolate, candy, sweets and similar profligate things. This is nothing like that, but almost as bad. After i crushed the soulstone of Mephisto i went after Diablo and ended the demon's existence, however some of it's minions almost took me with them with their fiery breath, only my composure and the teleporting staff saved me. Diablo is dead, but i still have one work to do: hunt Baal, the last of the Prime Evils.
Baal escaped to the barbarian highland, and made an alliance with the local necromancer, as it turned out. The fresh air did good to me, i was happy to leave the furnace of hell and the cooking jungles behind. So i didn't hurry too much, but Baal could not evade my purification. Now i can attend to more important matters.
And here ends the journal of Wilbur Wonka, the magnificent dentist necromancer.
The death hit me completely unawere, i didn't have any difficulty problems at this point, the only heart-stopping situation was at Diablo's lair with the unique venom lord and it's minions.
The necromancer teeth proved to be a better skill, than i excepted, it did not really much damage, but Dr. Wonka could spam it really fast (of course he had to consume blue potions like a really experienced drinker for this). It has no targeting issue, and cut through crowded mobs with ease.
Now i have to move forward. I know i said that i won't try another no-reload some time after Wonka, but i can't help myself.
The sudden end of all my characters was not because of the lack in versatility on the character builds part, it was totally my fault. In a less part i was not familiar with the interface, and i'm not a very fast player. The second problem is, that i have not too much time for a game session, and often it is a problem to reach the next waypont. So i rushed to the next waypoint in order to not lose progress. Because of the lack of time i prepare my character inadequately for the challenges they will face.
I try to left these mistakes this time. It was hard to find the inspiration to play a druid, but i think that i found the proper source this time. For challenge's sake i will try to use the summoning tree only.
Yahiko the TotemicSummoner druid
hardcore v13.c untwinked, solo, single player, no ladder summoning tree only
It was intresting to see mentioned Yahiko's name multiple time in the last few days (fun fact: i never heard about Yahiko outside these boards) This time i write the journal right during the gameplay. With this i may have the advantage of the little breaks and i can think through my next steps. Also forgive me, but i'll past the screenshots without sorting in the end of each update.
The start of Yahiko's adventure, Act I. (Normal)
I started with equipping Yahiko from the nearby lodge. My first goal is to fill my item slots with decent gear. I try to find a weapon with cold damage, or i use a chipped saphire in a soceted weapon. I found this ethereal cold dagger. "Good", but not what i was looking for. A necromancer wand with great power. I store this, maybe i'll have the stash place to carry it to Act 2, and sell for a better price. If not, i can always sell it. As i search for items for Yahiko, i sore some for my would be mercanery friend too. An eagle orb, a wand, and a large charm in the bed! Nice! Another large charm.
A katar, which i refuse to pick up, because in 99% of time magical assasin weapons worth less than 80 gp, wich is the price of an identify scroll. But a magical ring in a nearby chest and a chipped topaz in the bed make this trip worth too. now i have a topaz and a ruby to upgrade at gem shrines! My first summon, a mighty raven, and a flawless topaz! A frost axe, now that would be acceptable, until i find a better one. Another ring, and a small charm with +5 life (and item level 14) in the lodge! Throwing knives are fine at this point, they worth 480 gp, regardless of their condition. And 480 gp is way better, than -60, which an assassin weapon can achieve, after identification.
Now, i'm at level 4, and i need only a belt. So i gamble a light belt at Gheed. +10% hit recovery is good! I summoned a poison creeper too! I'm curious how it look like in action. Time to face Corpsfire in the Den of Evil. The first true battle with the druid felt good, it was better, than what i waited. Both the raven and the poison creeper shined against these enemies:) I add it here, that i spare town portal scrolls with exiting/reloading if possible (like in the end of clearing the den). Time to face Blood Raven! I never thought about this, but i will carry some thowing potion against BR cold arrow this time. The battle against Blood Raven went smoothly, the vine weakened BR's minions, the ravens added to the confusion a little too, and Yahiko could concentrate on BR only. After clearing the undead walls a little, Yahiko attacked BR, and the cold damaging axe worked, however it's damage output was a little low, so the killing needed time. I had some characters, who eliminated Blood Raven wit more ease, but i don't complain about Yahiko either, it was a much safer and controlled battle, than with my most char against BR. Next i skipped the two little establishment in the Graveyard and rushed to the Stony Field, to reach the next waypoint, because this little session took a little more than 3 hours for me, and my playing time is over. On the stony field there are three shrines near the waypoint, which is nice. Even nicer, that one of them is a Gem Shrine!
Sad to see Wonka go but I have to say that when you change the difficulty in Diablo 2, the game starts feeling differently. So you have to be very careful at the start of NM and Hell - maybe these are the most dangerous parts of the game.
Yahiko got through the underground passage without much trouble. I'm suspicious how will his summons fare against Woodfist. Also, Yahiko reached level 6, and he can now summon wolf!
So, Treehead Woodfist was a cakewalk, now time to go to Tristram and rescue Decard Cane! I felt my damage output a little low against certain enemies, so this rare axe came in the right time!
I mistakenly put my first skillpointin werewolf, so i respec now at Akara. I don't think i'll need any respec till Nightmare. With this i can try a new summon: oak sage!
Oh, the axe is two handed... Well, i'll try it anyway, but i think i have to find another weapon. Sadly, the chipped saphire eluded me so far.
The two handed axe and the summons performed well in Tristram, Yahiko could manage Griswold a unique skeleton archer and it's minions together. One wolf could tank Griswold alone, and there were no death on Yahiko's side.
A chipped saphire, and a wolf head at last!
The Black Marsh layout is convenient, Yahiko will go to the Forgotten Tower next time!
Yahiko found a Ral and a Nef at the Countess, which is a good find. I thought about what runewords would be useful for Yahiko, and i'm unsure about it, but i do sume Countess runs regardless. I don't suspect any deadly enemies in the Tower, and it's the best place to level up because of the runes and the granted uniques and champions.
Also, here's a secret video featuring The Countess, what was left out from the finished game. Maybe you can use it for something in the enhanced version @God ?
There is no too much reason to hunt too much runes before finding the horadric cube, but i never tried the Steel and the Malice runewords so far, and Yahiko could benefit from both, or so i think. I use to do a Stealth armor too in Act I, but for Yahiko it's not necessary. He don't need the +25% FCR, nor the +25% Faster run/walk truly. However, the +30 poison res is good against Andariel, and it's highly possible, that i won't find a better armor, so i may do it in the end. But the first priority is to make a Steel, or a Malice weapon. The last Countess run provided some nice loot: Yahiko found a two socketed scimitar on the way to the tower, and the drop of the Countess was nice too a Tal rune for the Stealth armor and the necessary Tir rune for the Steel weapon. The bonus was a really nice two socketed gnarled staff, which was only some extra gold to Yahiko of course (but it was definitely better, than the two handed axe he used lately, even without the sorceress staffmods). Some other loot i find in the counting process: ring and amulet with magic find, nice charms, several chippy gem. It is just me, or the barbarian helms and especially necromancer totem staffmod items are much frequently drops than druid pelts? Hm, i'm not wholly sure, that this Steel scimitar is better, than the staff. Maybe i should check the attack speed... OK, i checked, but i'm not much wiser now... Let's just try out! And i have now the two socketed Ring Mail for Stealth too, without visiting Charsi too much.
Yahiko upgraded his belt at Gheed with gamling, and he went straigt to the Monastery. This is the first truly dangerous area. There can be strong unique/champion goats and archers, and here is The Smith too. A lucky find in the monastery, an Arctic fur, also my first set!
The Smith went down with ease. I know that Yahiko is a little bit overlevelled, but he put up a nice and safe gameplay experience so far.
The jail provided some nasty monster groups, but nothing Yahiko couldn't handle. But this was the first time, that he lost his vine somewhere in the tumult.
And another set item, Death Guard this time!
A decent rare gloves too in the inner Cloister!
Now, i think i'll try to upgrade my Topaz and change for Death Guard to see the immun to frozen attribute in act. And my first two try gave me two gem shrine, and a perfect topaz with this! Now i need only Yahiko to reach level 18, and i can put in his helm socket that!
