Ideas for BG3

In the period known as Time of Trouble, Bhaal was slained by Cyric, which took over his divine domain. This event led to the Baldu's Gate saga. CHARNAME, apperently, sealed the divine power in Throne of Bhaal.
Now, it seems that Bhaal has returned as new god of murder.

Will the return of Bhaal unfold a new story?

Let's read your ideas (not only from bards) !!!

It has to take place several hundred years after BG2, because of any new d&d game has to use the current d&d rules. Some thing WoTC has forced into place.

The current spell system is what it is due to events after the 3.5 edition.

I don't remember which gods are left in the FR setting now. They removed a pile of them to "simplify" d&d. I seem to remember Bhaal is around, though. I guess that means the "evil" ending to BG2 is the canon one?

Yes, Bhaal seems to be around again. Well, I guess whatever ending in BG2 might be suitable for a return of Bhaal. For instance, in the "good" ending, the divine power of Bhaal has been sealed for long time and then an event could release that power for the actual return of Bhaal. Although, a story with the same main character seems mostly unlikely; maybe a descendant may be the main character of the new story...

I would rather see the game as a deeper , more intricate story, instead of "young hero starts a new adventure". If I wrote BG3 I would definitely try to surprise the player with moral-intellectual dillemas involving the original saga and make the original Charname kind of a legend related to the whole Bhaal plot.

This is actually what happened, so they won't rehash it with another game. An early module for 5E PnP ("Return to Baldur's Gate") featured the canon Bhaalspawn from the BG series dying as part of an event that returned Bhaal to life. So the "good" ending to games is canon, as is CHARNAME's grisly death several decades later.

I'd be fine with a BG3 that's loosely related, though. A direct story continuation seems like a dead end, but something that has a tangential connection (echos from Irenicus' assault on the Seldarine, maybe?) would be a fun way to tie the games together despite the core story concluding.

I stumbled upon something while browsing Pinterest search for storytelling:

This short read made me think of reading all the character epilogues and then thinking of what kind of consequences each one had. As I´d imagine now, I´d really like BG3 to continue the tales of Anomen, Nalia, et al!

Given that is's over 100 years later, Anomen and Nalia are dead.

Structualy, the new game wouldn't be so much a sequel as "book One of the second Baldur's Gate Trilogy".

In any case, I hope Alaundo has some other prophecy, otherwise we are lost...

Eh, I was thinking of their descendants. Would you like if BG3 would be to represent the new generation of npc adventurers, some of which would be heirs of originals? 8o Now that might either work fabulously or be extremely funny!

According to a recent comics, Minsc and Boo are back in a little adventur in Baldur's Gate, during the Tyranny of Dragons storyline. I would say that that is a good start.....

Not particularly. It would feel very contrived if 150 years later an all new protagonist where to meet up with a bunch of great-grandchildren of the original party members.

New companions are needed for a new hero.

I´ve got to see that! What an inspiring name! Have the dragons taken over and started taxing people?
