The Complete FR Novel, Comic and Game Timeline Part 1

BladeDancerBladeDancer Member Posts: 477
I've decided to make a chronological list of all the FR novels, comics and games and list what year they take place in the FR universe, since I am collecting the comics, audiobooks of the novels and playing the games, and I also want to educate you all on the chronology of the FR, which novel, comic or game takes place in what year, who wrote that novel/comic/game and who developed them and whatnot. Some stories extend for years, decades or centuries before they end. I hope you guys enjoy looking this over, piecing together the time frame of almost every FR novel, comic and game is not easy. There are some that are very difficult to determine.

    Whoa, nice job!
In case it's not just a copy-paste  from some FR Wiki, then it had to be an exhausting one. . :hushed:

I didn't browse through all of it yet, but noticed smth: Icewind Dale II, I believe it takes place in 1312 DR

[EDIT: also a suggestion, put a link to the part 2 at the bottom]

@Rodrian It was exhausting research, yes. I haven't played Icewind Dale 2 yet, so I'm not entirely sure it takes place in 1310 or 1312 DR, I got to buy that game as soon as I can so that I'll know for sure. There are a lot of novels too, 82% of them I haven't even read yet. I want to play the old FR games like Pool of Radiance, but I don't think they can be bought over GOG.com like Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2.

I'll put the part 2 link down like you suggested too, thanks.

Here's a screenshot from the IWD2's journal (I'm actually doing a run RN. .) so you can take that date as *granted* ^^
(hope not to spoil anything for you/anyone - just skip the text part )

I just want to let you guys know that I've recently upgraded parts 1 and 3 of the list of Forgotten Realms D&D novels, comic books and games! I've also organized the list a bit, dividing events that take place in different years, but keeping together those that occur in the same year.

I've updated the list, guys. Not much changes, but hey, its an improvement after being absent from the forums for five months.

I have returned, with a few more additions to the list!

With the announcement of R.A. Salvatore's new novel "Timeless" soon to be released in a few months, I felt the need to add it on my list here even though information on the novel is sparse for now.

Going to be interesting to see if it is just RAS who gets to publish new novels or if they're going to bring back a wider range of other authors as well.

Do any of you remember the game "Eye Of The Beholder"? Well, I just figured out that the game takes place in Marpenoth of the Year of Shadows, the same year when the Time Of Troubles happens.

I just got the book Realms of the Dragons 2 since there is no audiobook version available, and I have learned when the stories "Faerie Fire", "The Woman Who Drew Dragons", "The Hunting Game", and "The Road Home" takes place in comparison to other novels and D&D games we are familiar with like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights.

It's been a long while since I updated my chronological list of every D&D Forgotten Realms based novel, comic book, tabletop game and video game, so I figure now is the time to get back into the swing. For starters, I elaborated on how the Shandril's Saga novels are chronologically connected even though the Forgotten Realms Wiki doesn't know that "How Wisdom Came to the Maimed Wizard" is set in the year 1357 DR after the Shandril's Saga novels.

I added the most recent Drizzt novel "Timeless" in the timeline. The flashback parts of the novel are in 1018 DR, detailing the friendship between Drizzt's father and Jarlaxle, and how Drizzt's father met his mother.
