Best 3-man party?

Here's the challenge.

Rules:

* No dual or multi-classes. Try that on for size!
* Insane difficulty, then an HOF run afterward.
* Completionist; no dodging monsters.
* Clean run. No cheats!
* One character must be a female dwarf. For the sex legs.

I'm thinking something like Jester, Cavalier, Assassin. Not enough DPS, though. Probably create some interesting and annoying situations no matter what 3 you choose.

    I'd go with :
    - Totemic Druid
    - Bounty Hunter
    - Sorcerer

The idea would be to use summons as meat-shield, so the sorcerer would have to choose good summon spells at higher levels. Bounty Hunter for thieving, backstabs and special traps for crowd control.

Bah! Bounty hunter. The save spam class extraordinaire! :persevere:

Would probably go with something like Avenger druid, wild mage, and an evil cleric of some sort.
Would skip insane mode and start straight on HoF mode. Can't play on the other modes considering all I play is HoF from level 1.

    wild mage

With single-classes + small party + Insane difficulty, the characters will level up very fast, and Mages will not find spell scrolls anywhere near fast enough to keep up with the new spell levels they unlock.

A Sorcerer is much stronger under such circumstances, because he gets new spells on level-up without having to find scrolls.
That's why I would take an Avenger druid for some of the better spells like chromatic orb and Web, chromatic orb is actually useful for stunning yetis and trolls. Just load up with chromatic orbs on the wild mage and druid and it comes trivial. Once u reach dragons eye wild mages are fine.

The first spells I would take as wild mage would be horror and chromatic orb. The druid and cleric will be able to handle everything till your wild mage gets the required spells.

I was thinking Jester would offset that.

My problem is single classes only makes it hard for me. I want a Cleric of Tempus and a Jester. How do I get DPS and thief skills? Swashbucklers feel overdone

    Single classes are the best.

Dwarven defender tank, Archer DPS, Shapeshifter to help both.

Do Dwarven defender saving throws make up for the lack of Charm/Hold/Poison resistance on a Cav? Or the resistance to almost all magic on a Berserker? I'm not sure which is the best for tanking.

There's a helm of charm protection and there isn't really enough poison in icewind dale to worry about it that much.

    Shadowdancer
    Shaman
    Edwin

Yes, Edwin is a class... You can't make a mage better than Edwin... BUT if i can't choose NPCs

    Shadowdancer
    Shaman
    Wild Mage

Can't see shaman being used considering they aren't available because icewind dale is only on 1.4. Generally wondering if most the comments have actually tried HoF mode.

Here's my suggestion (three of the most fun kits):

Jester (Did you know that enemies in Icewind Dale have really bad saving throws? Have fun!)
Avenger (Those additional spells are so great)
Kensai (Actually a very balanced class when they don't dual-class)

In IWD:EE 1.4.0, HoF mode increases the Hit Die and the Monsters have great saves( at least for me) they also concentrate on the least armored characters
    now trying
    1/2 orc Assassin
    1/2 orc Cleric
    Female Dwarven Defender

Cleric (Dwarf) - for fighting in the front line, and also spells
Bounty Hunter - for traps and backstabbing
Bard - for spells, and sometimes for songs
