Songs in Forgotten Realms

ButtercheeseButtercheese Member Posts: 3,766
I thought it might be fun to gather some bard songs for the Forgotten Realms and adapt some other songs to fit the setting.

SOME SAY THAT BHAAL IS DEAD
(Some say the devil is dead)

This one only needs a new chorus:
Some say that Bhaal is dead, that Bhaal is dead, that Bhaal is dead
Some say that Bhaal is dead and buried in Boareskyr
More say he'll rise again, more say he'll rise again
More say he'll rise again down south in Tethyr

THE DRUNKEN FFOLKMAN
(The drunken Scotsman)

The Ffolk are one of the ethnic groups from the Moonshae Isle and apparently based on the Scots,
so I figured they'd fit.
Well a Ffolkman clad in kilt left a bar one evening fair
And one could tell by how he walked that he'd drunk more than his share
He fumbled round until he could no longer keep his feet
Then he stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street
Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
He stumbled off into the grass to sleep beside the street

About that time two young and lovely girls just happened by
And one says to the other with a twinkle in her eye
See yon sleeping Ffolkman so strong and handsome built
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt
Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
I wonder if it's true what they don't wear beneath the kilt

They crept up on that sleeping Ffolkman quiet as could be
Lifted up his kilt about an inch so they could see
And there behold, for them to view, beneath his Moonshae skirt
Was nothing more than Earthmother had given upon his birth
Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
Was nothing more than Earthmother had given upon his birth

They marveled for a moment, then one said we must be gone
Let's leave a present for our friend, before we move along
As a gift they left a blue silk ribbon, tied into a bow
Around the bonnie star, the Ffolk's kilt did lift and show
Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
Around the bonnie star, the Ffolk's kilt did lift and show

Now the Ffolkman woke to nature's call and stumbled toward the trees
Behind a bush, he lifts his kilt and gawks at what he sees
And in a startled voice he says to what's before his eyes.
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize
Ring ding diddle iddle I de oh ring di diddly I oh
O lad I don't know where you been but I see you won first prize

EDIT (Please read)

The point of this thread is to find songs that specifically fit the Forgotten Realms (or any of the other D&D settings) meaning they have to outright reference stuff from it. Stop posting random folk songs and the likes unless you actually added some rewritten lyrics. For examples just check the type of stuff I posted here.

There must be a perfectly depressing Morrissey song for Xan.

And of course Wagner's Flight of the Valkyries would be perfect for Branwen.

    AC/DC - Highway to Hell

    Portal to Sigil
    Living easy, living free
Season token on a one-way ride
    Asking nothing, leave me be
    Taking everything in my stride
Don't need reason, don't need rhyme
Ain't nothing I would rather do
    Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too

I'm on the portal to Sigil
    On the portal to Sigil
    Portal to Sigil
I'm on the portal to Sigil

    No stop signs, speed limit
    Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
    Nobody's gonna mess me around
Hey Lady of Pain, paid my dues
    Playing in a rocking band
    Hey Morte, look at me
I'm on my way to the promised land, whoo!

I'm on the portal to Sigil
    Portal to Sigil
I'm on the portal to Sigil
    Portal to Sigil

    Don't stop me

I'm on the portal to Sigil
    On the portal to Sigil
I'm on the portal to hell
    On the portal
    Yeah, portal to Sigil
I'm on the portal to Sigil
    Portal to Sigil
    Portal to Sigil

    And I'm going down
    All the way
    Whoa!
I'm on the portal to Sigil

Not lore-friendly, you say? As if! We're in a age where glam rock dwarf bards rule the tavern stages after all.

I had another idea, so here's a thread necromancer

    GATE OF BALDURAN
    (Gates of Babylon by Rainbow)
    Look away from the sea
    I can take you anywhere
    Spend a vision with me
    A chase with the wind

    Move closer to me
    I can make you anyone
I think you're ready to see
    The gate of Balduran

The power of what has been before
    Rises to trap you within

A magic sword fight, an ogre maybe more
    A city of celestial sin
Murder the brother and then you must pay
Murder the brother and then Bhaal will take you away
    Oh gate of Balduran

You can see but you're blind
    Someone turned the sun around
But you can see in your mind
    The gate of Balduran

    You're riding the endless caravan
Young and little but a knave
A dagger dance removing all the veils
Getting as good as you gave
Murder the brother and then you must pay
Murder the brother and then Bhaal will take you away

    Look away from the sea
    I can take you anywhere
    Spend a vision with me
    A chase with the wind

    Move closer to me
    I can make you anyone
I think you're ready to see
    The gate of Balduran

The power of what has been before
    Rises to trap you within
A magic sword fight, an ogre maybe more
    A city of celestial sin
Murder the brother and then you must pay
Murder the brother and then Bhaal will take you away
    Oh gate of Balduran

    A Bhaalspawn is me
    And I'm holding the key
To the gate of the abyss
    Balduran

The words have nothing to do with FR, but if you are talking bards in inns and what they might sing, you can't go wrong by looking to The Wurzals.

    I am a Cider Drinker

This is from 1976 and I saw them at the Great Dorset Steam Fair last summer pretty much doing the same, except they are all in their eighties now.

Just as a reminder: The songs need a direct connection to FR (or any of the other D&D settings, if you want). No songs that would simply fit into any setting. That's boring. Either songs specifically written for this or where you yourself adjusted the lyrics, as I presented here a bunch of times.

If I'd want songs that fit anything, I'd just check YouTube for a medieval/folk playlist :V

Well, since we are at it, have a song that was specifically written about Dragonlance:

This song isn't suitable in-setting, but it's literally about D&D and FR, so have at it:

More songs about D&D. Despite the same name, they are very different songs.
