I was never able to leave Candlekeep in the beginning with the game always crashing, so... *shrug*

No great loss as long as the intro isn't removed. I liked the little movies the 1st time i played the original, but after that i found most of them to be unnecessary.

    The Intro is there :)

It saddens me, but I'll assume it makes absolute sense given the graphical improvements to the rest game.

I hope they'll remake them and add them some time in the future.
  • BerconBercon Member Posts: 486
They looked horrible. The game is better off without them even if there is nothing to replace them.

There appear to be only 10 video files in the BG:EE movies folder. Judging by their names this means that the following videos are missing:

The Iron Throne; The Duchal Palace; The Tavern (unused in original game I think?); The Dungeon (also unused?); Bandit Camp; The Wyvern; The Temple of Bhaal; The Sewers; The Gnoll Stronghold; Beregost; Entering Durlag's Tower; Sunset; Sunrise.

If that is the case, a lot of original material has been removed without it being replaced.

Kinda glad about the removal of the Beregost movie (it was just too silly), not sure about the others.

What???? THAT ONES MY FAVORITE!!!! The atmosphere it created blew my mind the very first time I played the game :(

I bet that the gnoll fortress or kidnapped cow would look awesome in the new artstyle :(

No new gnoll fortress movie? I'm just gonna go cry a little.

@mister_ennui Bandit Camp and Temple of Bhaal are there.

On a later tweet I seem to remember Trent saying that they cut these videos out because they did not directly impact the storyline (thus places where they could save money if they were redoing videos). Also by not including them but including their own it doesn't cause any breaks in continuity between new videos and old.

I'm sort of fine with this, since on replays I'm kind of used to wanting to be able to skip through them. A few minor vids vs better gameplay doesn't really bother me.

    @Kirkor

You're right, the bandit camp cinematic does appear to be there. I missed it.

Which is the file with the Temple of Bhaal cinematic (I mean this one with the temple door opening before
the final battle with Sarevok - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cU9Hkuac-zY )? (I've been going off the names of the files and haven't watched the new movies, as I don't want to spoil seeing them for the first time in game.)

    @TrentOster via Twitter:

We cut the Beregost movie, the Gnoll fortress and a few more
We removed a few videos as they did not meet the quality bar and we decided to put more time into the game itself instead of redoing them
How do you feel about this? Is it a reasonable compromise? Or perhaps an unthinkable violation of our collective childhoods?

    Discuss.

I don't think it will negatively impact my gaming experience, but I really have to play the enhanced edition to decide for sure.

I'm actually glad they got rid of beregost. That one was just annoying to me. Not thrilled with the Gnolls fortress, especially since I think its inclusion added to some of the mystery about the place.
  • DeeDee Member Posts: 10,447
Unfortunately, that video was the only mystery the place actually had. Once you climbed the stairs, the only thing waiting for you was a bunch of gnolls. Most of the "mystery" was in the caves nearby, and they weren't anything to write home about either. ;)

I'd be in favor of creating a new gnoll stronghold video if/when they ever add a dungeon element to the place. Until then, it seems like wasted frames.

Fair enough. I can dream man. I suppose it really won't take much away. Still really glad they got rid of beregost though, that makes up for it :)

How about including the old videos ( ones that haven't been remastered ) but turning them off as default but having the option of turning them on for those nostalgic folks? Like myself

Aw, man! That list is looooong. I'm truly bummed about this.

Oh, and the tavern and the dungeon movies are used when resting, I believe.

They really should so something about the cadence of the new FAI video. Let me see... well maybe they shouldn't cut it!!! It annoys the hell outta me more than the missing videos. (although I really miss the cow...)

    @Adul

Well I was wrong about the bandit camp video. As @Kirkor pointed out that is included in BG:EE.

I'm pretty sure the movie titled "The Tavern" was unused in the original game - it shows the inside of the Red Sheaf Inn in Beregost and has no sound (if I remember correctly you had to modify the .ini file to access it). The one titled "The Dungeon" actually shows the basement of the Ducal Palace - i'm not too sure if it was used in the original or if it is another unused movie (it's been a while since i've played BG1).

I hope they eventually replace most if not all of the videos post release. They added to the charm of the game, and it's a loss not having them. Though I understand that in the push to meet the deadline these clearly weren't going to get as high a priority as many other things that BG:EE offers.

I watched the videos yesterday and I watched them again today, and on the second viewing I liked them a lot more. The only one I'm not pleased about is Nashkel...the landscape in the original video was much prettier and the kobold/family scene cooler.

The dungeon was included in original BG. I remember watching it:

    It's underground of Ducal Palace.

The Tavern one, wasn't there, indeed:

So in new cinematics there are no (at least in preloaded material):

    - Baldur's Gate - Beregost

    Baldur's Gate - Gnoll Stronghold

    Baldur's Gate - Dungeon
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ__PCD7IYg

    Baldur's Gate - Cloakwood
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pnx-fes9DA8

    Baldur's Gate - Sewers
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FWBJ0-trSO8

    Baldur's Gate - Sunset
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0AHlaw7Ogg

    Baldur's Gate - Sunrise
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9h1krcDt4dk

    Baldur's Gate - Iron Throne
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kczsTTezu44

    Baldur's Gate - Candlekeep
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc43bDoe-74

    Baldur's Gate - Duchal Palace
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQbyLFdQEYk

Baldur's Gate - Tales Of The Sword Coast - Durlag's Tower
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrZ5Z9xDEdU

What I actualy did like about old cinematics, that they very slowly revealed location, while music was rising and rising to the moment of revealing the whole scene. It had its own atmosphere.

I'm more of the 'get rid of all in-game movies' crowd, but that is largely because some games (KOTOR) go overboard with unskippable cutscene nonsense. Anyway, I don't think I'll miss the movies that weren't included, but sort of would have preferred that they left them intact for posterity.
  • Space_hamsterSpace_hamster Member Posts: 950
They should finish the cinematic and put them back in as DLC.
