Hello all,
I've read many playthroughs and now it's time for my own. The game will be played on insane without added damage from enemies. I don't think I have any mods installed currently, IIRC.
Vidar is a thief/mage multiclass cheated dwarf. The race is because nowadays I can only play dwarfs and the class is the closest thing to my dream class, the blade with thief skills. I have therefore added the swashbuckler kit but removed the effects it gets from level 1 and instead added the spins a blade get. Confused? I understand this is cheese ofcourse, but I don't care. My character is made this way for RP reasons.
The character is a good man, so I will not enter unknown ppl's homes, steal or kill innocents etc. If I do any of this I will find RP reasons to do so, hence the NG aligment. My intention is to keep this throughout, but I actuually don't know. If the character evolves into something else, I will let him do that.
I will treat NPCs as actual persons, or at least try to. Just read it, you'll see what I mean. I will switch around NPCs for quests but wil try to write plausable reasons for doing so. Some will live, some will die. This isn't game of thrones, but rest assured not all will live through the whole tale.
Are you still here? Yeah, this will be a wall of text, so if that's not your thing you should probably find another walkthrough
If your read this playtrough you are very welcome to add things that my character can do and stuff like that, but just as an "FYI", he has progressed much further than what I had posted here. It has just takem me a long time to write this text. He is currently on his way towards the bandit camp.
Ok, here goes!

He spoke a bit with Winthrop and Firebead. Firebead the old fart asked him to bring back his scroll and even gave Vidar an unusualy large sum of gold coins just for talking to him. Vidar was extactic, but also surprised. What had he really done to deserve so much gold? He remembered reading in a book that “thou shalt never look a gifted cow in the mouth”, so just appreciate what was given and move on. So he did. Vidar went out again after chatting briefly with a couple of pompous guests. They seemed afraid of him. He went out and into the priest’s house to see if he was there and up for a chat. He was greeted by an unknown man and after a brief exchange of words, the man called Shank attacked!
Vidar had his pet familiar with him and together they managed to defend themselves and kill Shank. Vidar’s heart was pounding hard in his chest and he rushed out almost as soon as the bad man fell to the ground. Outside Parda came rushing and asked what had happened. Vidar still felt the surge of adrenalin and admitted that that he was terrified and that a man had tried to kill him. Parda’s warm embrace and soothing words calmed him down. She held him tight ‘til he was himself again, only letting him go once he had promised to talk to her as soon as he felt afraid again. Vidar walk away, turned and looked back at her. She was always so nice to him, he smiled and waved. She waved back, in her eyes a look of mixed feelings; concern, but also pride.
Vidar continued down and met Jondalar who nagged on him to continue their fighting practice. Vidar didn’t say anything about the incident with Shank, but was unusually keen on practicing today. Jondalar was surprised to see how much effort Vidar put in this day and praised him on his prowess.
After sweating it out with Jondalar, Vidar went on and met with Reevor. Both Reevor and Jondalar was assigned by Gorion to teach Vidar fighting and taking care of himself, but Vidar had always felt that Reevor seemed to dislike him. Today was not different. The task was a small one, clear out the warehouse from rats. Vidar did the task but Reevor didn’t praise him so much. Vidar didn’t know why, but he had wanted Reevor’s appreciation ever since they started practicing together, but the grumpy dwarf was not very extravagant with compliments.
After the training sessions was over Vidar did some minor tasks around Candlekeep. He returned a book to Phlydia and helped cure a cow who was poisoned. He even brought Hull his sword and Fuller some bolts for his crossbow. He also returned Firebead’s scroll.
Weird, he hadn’t seen Imoen all day. Maybe she was in the bunkhouse? Vidar went in and no sooner had he entered when a man, very similar to the assassin Shank, greeted him. Again he was assaulted, this time by a man named Carbos! After hours of sweaty training, Vidar found strength within himself and bashed down his assailant in a fit of rage. His heart pumping yet again, but from fear this time. No, now he felt anger and rage. Who were these men attacking him, and why? What in the nine hells could make assassins come after a lowly young dwarf in Candlekeep?
This time he went out and immediately went to see Gorion. On the way he finally found Imoen, who greeted him. They talked shortly, but Vidar rushed forward, he really needed to talk to Gorion
Gorion had news, they had to leave as soon as possible. He instructed Vidar to pack what he needed and prepare for a long journey. Vidar was surprised and didn’t have a chance to ask about the assassins or if it was all connected. He rushed towards the inn, he knew what he had to do. Vidar knew right from wrong and even with all the pranks he’d done with Imoen, he never stole. He liked to practice lockpicking and was very good at it. He loved to prank the stuffy old clerks in the library, locking in their belongings in the wrong chests and containers so it looked like they had stolen from eachother but he had never actually stole anything for himself! He felt his heart pumping with shame as for what he was about to do. He went to the inn and went up to the sleeping quarters and cleaned it out of gems and gold. Then he went down and talked to Winthrop. Ever since old W had bought that shiny katana from a traveling merchant, it had been Vidar’s dream to own it. A few times Winthrop had let him hold it, briefly, but now he traded the gems and bought it for himself. Winthrop was very surprised that he had such pricy gems in his possessions, but Vidar said Gorion had given it to him to prepare for the journey. He also bought a nice, well-oiled leather armor and throwing daggers. Then he went to visit Gorion.
Gorion took action and led them out of Candlekeep, Vidar’s first adventure ever. Now it begins, now the whole world was his! Vidar thought to himself. Finally he would do what all the heroes had done in all the books he had read in the Candlekeep library.
They had traveled a full day and was just starting to prepare for camping when they were attacked. It was sudden and Gorion, being tired and ill-prepared made crucial mistakes. He threw a few defensive spells and shouted to Vidar to run for his life! Vidar was struck by an arrow and after hesitating a few seconds followed his mentor’s orders – he ran so fast he thought he would fall over. He didn’t stop until he couldn’t breath anymore. Then he fell down, tired, broken and sobbing out of fear. The sight of seeing his foster father attacked by the most fearsome person he had ever seen had broken his heart. The only parent he had ever known, struck down by an unknown attacker.
The dawn was exceptionally cruel the next morning. Vidar woke up and Imoen came rushing towards him. They fell in eachother arms and Vidar told everything, about Shank, Carbos, the attack on Gorion. Together they decided to sneak back to the place and see what had happened.
The sight of Gorion’s mangled body made Vidar’s sobs turn into tears. They stood there a long time, Vidar sobbing and Imoen, his best friend and sister, with her arms around him, comforting him as best she could. “You did what you could. He would have been proud of you”. The guilt Vidar felt was gut-wrenching. They buried his body and looked through his belongings, took what they could carry and eventually moved on.
When walking around, finding their bearings they found a man on a ledge. Vidar talked to Chase and convinced him life wasn’t so bad.
They went back and followed the road and met two shady figures, Xzar and Montarion. Imoen was wary of the two and stayed behind with an arrow stringed. But while Vidar talked to the duo, a gibberling attacked Imoen from behind. Her strung bow quickly ended the vile creatures life. The creeepy smiles on the two strangers froze and Vidar thought he could faintly see something else replacing it, doubt? What do they have in mind? “There's safety in numbers” the mysterious "E" had written to Gorion. Vidar took the advice to his heart and invited the duo to join them.
After scouting the area the four-man group continued east.
On their way east they met an old man. He didn’t introduce himself but seemed the friendly type.
When camping and eating lunch Xzar came up to Vidar and talked about magic and how powerful necromancy was. He even game Vidar two scrolls to practice on and together they read them and Vidar memorized them for future use. Xzar seemed impressed by how easy Vidar could read and memorize the arcane scrolls.
The group got up and continued to scout the surrounding. What was that gleaming in a crevice in the rock? Vidar saw something shiny and went closer to look. It was a magical ring!
After meeting a frightened child Jass who told the group that bandits had killed old Brill and that they were after iron, they found a raided cart and the remains of the owners. Xzar laughed and said that if the cart hadn't been so destroyed he would have raised the wretched people and have them drag the cart with him in it! Monty laughed but Vidar didn't. Vidar had already started to grow tired of them and whispered to Imoen “I don't trust them at all. Let’s keep our eyes open”.
While scouting they came across a couple of gibberlings. Monty took a couple of serious hits and was bleeding seriously so the group decided they needed to camp for the night.
They setup a camp, started a fire and cook some food when more gibberlings attacked. The camp fire and smell of food must have lured them there. They had just beaten the gibberlings when an even greater threat attacked – an ogre!
Monty was bruised up and lying on the ground and Xzar was standing idly not really doing anything. Vidar and Imoen, scared as they were, managed to kill it with a barrage of throwing daggers, arrows and luck! The ogre dropped interesting things and luckily Monty was too injured to steal all the loot this time.
Vidar took charge and decided there would be no more camping in the wild. They should push on towards the Friendly Arms Inn.
I appreciate your concern @JuliusBorisov, it's very nice of you to ask.
I'm at work now though, but if it's not too much of hassle you can restore it @JuliusBorisov. It was only two parts though, but they were quite long.
(Secretly hopes he did the same to grumpy old Ulraunt)
