In 2018, Five Finger Death Punch collaborated with legendary Judas Priest front man Rob Halford to record a song on one of their two new albums. Here it is. https://youtu.be/bLa-KyWT67E?si=wON-gQQPDE89NM0O
Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss collaborated with WWE to play Shinsuke Nakamura's entrance theme at Wrestlemania 34. This is the official performance. https://youtu.be/AQTceIy54b4?si=GttYsg1b6ItCPEmw
And as @God once said in a comment, "because I can", here is another rendition of Shinsuke Nakamura's ring entrance theme performed by the gifted violinist and vocalist Lee England, Jr. https://youtu.be/jfuCxlVUngE?si=d4jdOkmjLSRbjr7e
Here also is a song not from the metal category, but it will make sense after this explanation. This song tells the story of the Devil going somewhere to steal someone's soul by challenging him to a fiddling contest, only to find out the young man he made a bet with was more than he could handle and he lost the bet. Now usually, especially in parts of Europe, stories about making a deal with the Devil are cautionary tales meant to keep people from giving in to temptation. It's not every day you hear a story about a mortal accepting the Devil's challenge and beating him at his own game. It doesn't get any more metal than that. This is "The Devil Went Down to Georgia". https://youtu.be/sh7BZf7D5Bw?si=-ygPgHkku7ikQ2OV
might be my metal album of the year, definitely my black metal album of the year, for 2025
though, if you wanna go with the technicality that it was recorded years ago and then after the one-man black metal project passed away his brother spent years mastering it before releasing it in 2025...
then this would be my pick for metal AOTY 2025 (Lonely People with Power by Deafheaven, Ethereal Horizons by Blut Aus Nord and Nincs Szennyezetlen Szép by The Devil's Trade are all very very close contenders for that top spot, 'twas a DAMN good year for metal)
what about y'all? anyone have a pick for metal AOTY for last year?
