Hey guys, is there any particular trigger for Clara banters? She's already asked Jan about his gadgets and I was excited to have her equipped with new gear, but we've been travelling for quite some time and no follow up came up.
She's currently level 10, but I've tried to test escalating the progress a bit by giving her 3M exp and skipping time. I've got one random Jaheira banter and PLENTY of Mazzy banters, but no follow up from Jan...
All banters in Baldur's Gate 2 are triggered by an obnoxiously long banter timer that's completely random. If you want to speed the banters up (which I encourage) there are a couple different banter accelerator mods. Let me know if you can't find one and I'll dig one up.
Also, is there any triggered alignment change? Based on her dialogue she doesn't seem to be particularly evil, more like True/Chaotic Neutral.
Some of the dialogues get a bit darker.
Btw. nice touch - when you boot her you can ask her to change her kit from Shadowdancer to any other Thief kit.
Thanks. That was the most bug-free way we could code it. If you change classes enough you sometimes still can make weird things happen. The game isn't really made to do it a lot.
Edit: Also, why is she sometimes referred to as "Caroline"?
She says that Clara is a nickname for Caroline. She says her full name is Caroline Aurora Lucia Rosena Silvershield of Beregost.
Perhaps Caroline Louisa Audrey Rosana Alexandra Silvershield should be used as her alias name. This way, the initials of all the names combined would spell "Clara."
As much as I would love to add a banter accelerator, my heavily modded game wrapped between EET installation is untouchable, unless such mod literally doesn't touch anything. Today (after creating a backup) I've wasted time trying to reinstall the whole thing just to add "Alternatives" mod and it failed miserably, so I'll unfortunately pass.
The Jan banter I wanted actually triggered after few hours of gameplay after my post, but it's just a first of at least two regarding new features for Clara.
I love the way you made her "modular" and adaptable, like a gun you can install attachments to; it's really refreshing. Shame the trigger mechanism (no pun intended) for those modules is so inherently random.
I guess I can just leave the game unpaused in the background so banter timer is clocking.
Apologies, but I have a further question about the Mazzy-Imoen relationship.
But before I get to that, I want to compliment you on a final excellent twist in the SoA phase of that relationship story. The party went to Trademeet to visit Mazzy's family before heading off to Suldanessellar. And that conversation was hilarious! A very funny development -- literally LOL -- with what happens to Imoen.
However, whenever I put the "belt" on either Imoen or Mazzy there is no further dialogue. (The belt works.) Is this what should happen?
Also, I'm now in ToB. I've made it clear to Mazzy (after leaving the Underdark) that I'm not interested in a romantic relationship with her (there's a key dialogue, I believe, when she asks the PC to clarify his feelings with respect to her). I gave my blessing to Imoen to pursue her interest with Mazzy before that. And the PC's relationship with Viconia is progressing normally. (There was a conversation back in SoA where Viconia offers to "share" me with Mazzy, but Mazzy declines.)
So far in ToB the only "romance" conversation between Mazzy and Imoen is a bit odd. It goes:
M: There may be a situation developing that could derail your plans for us.
I: Oh?
M: PC name.
I: You mean because he likes you?
M: Yes... I mean I have seen that possibility but I have not confirmed it either way.
I: Does this mean I've lost my chance?
M: No. I have not yet made my decision and depending on the outcome, PC may simply have to decide if he can share.
I: At different times though ... I mean it'd be weird for me and PC to both be with you ... together ... at the same time ... you know what I mean!
M: Yes, and do not worry. I believe I would have enough energy for the both of you.
Since I've already made it clear that the PC is not interested in Mazzy I'm not sure why this triggered. Also, there was no option to intervene and tell them: "Hey, leave me out of this!" (or something like that).
Should I just assume that the Imoen-Mazzy relationship will progress nonetheless? Or are there no further banters in ToB in any case?
However, whenever I put the "belt" on either Imoen or Mazzy there is no further dialogue. (The belt works.) Is this what should happen?
Yeah, the belt is just like an easter egg. It doesn't trigger any more dialogue, it's just something you can use. The funny thing about that stupid belt is that we originally just threw in the Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity from BG1 as that item exists in BG2's files (but isn't anywhere in the game). But it turns out that that item breaks the game. So then we made up a new belt and had to make a bunch of code to have it work like the one in BG1.

Bah, that's a dialogue that isn't even in SoA anymore (we deleted it). I forgot that it still existed in ToB. Damn, I was hoping I wouldn't have to make any more edits in this mod. That dialogue was a bug; just ignore it. I'll go fix it.
All the SoA dialogues are doubled up (in some fashion) in ToB, which is true for most of what we wrote. I think all the rest of the edits I made in the last patch were SoA only. I think (hope) that was the only one that's also in ToB. If not, hopefully someone will tell us some time.
@Thrasymachus
While doing the bug fix I looked it up and the final Imoen-Mazzy talk in ToB (if you saw all the SoA ones already) happens after you kill Abazigal.
Also, that Viconia dialogue that happened way back with Phaere, do you remember roughly what Viconia said? I just wanted to see if the other mod was triggering one of our dialogues, as if that's what was happening I could fix it.
No making any more major changes now that I updated the mod again . I even did the freaking GitHub, though someone should probably check to make sure I didn't completely break that one along the way
Also, that Viconia dialogue that happened way back with Phaere, do you remember roughly what Viconia said? I just wanted to see if the other mod was triggering one of our dialogues, as if that's what was happening I could fix it.
I think Viconia says something along the lines of being surprised that I returned so quickly, as she thought Phaere was determined to seduce me.
(The dialogue that does not create the infinite loop is: "It seems that you cannot resist the spell that female drow cast ... I find it quite amusing, actually. Did she force you into the act, or did you go willingly? No matter. Hopefully, we have the opportunity to kill the wench. Were I not in hiding, I would challenge her openly and remove her head ... but we cannot have everything.")
Now that I think about it some more, I wonder whether the dialogues are from the original game (not from a mod). I can't remember now -- it's been over a decade (!) since I last played through the Viconia romance. But if so, I'm puzzled why Viconia would start saying the same line over and over again, as I think I would remember that happening even after so many years.

Well they're not from our mod, so I'm happy about that. They sound familiar, so they might be from the main game. However, maybe the romance expansion mod copied or altered one of the scripts. Repeating dialogues are usually a mod coding error (usually forgetting to advance a global).
I thought that I would mention that I received this dialogue twice from Mazzy (once in SoA and once in ToB):
"What do you want from me? Please speak plainly. I value directness and you cannot scare me with your honesty."
Mazzy seems to have a hard time accepting "let's just be friends" for an answer!

I think that was on purpose, to give you a second option to start the romance if you didn't do it the first time. On the other hand maybe we already have that option in the recurring dialogues? I don't remember. We probably did that originally so you had a second chance if you wanted it, and then years later put a similar option in the recurring dialogues making this one pointless and clumsy.
If I decide I care, I may put something in the ToB dialogue that makes it not trigger if you said "no" the first time. But that's assuming we have a specific global that sets if you say "no" rather than just a general "romance not active" global.
Thanks for letting us know! I may address it the next time some big bug pops up that we need to fix.
Hello, is there any Chance for a German Translation, thanks for all your Work
There's always a chance for translations, but not by us. If some bilingual person wanted to do it we'd include it. But it'd be a big project since there's a lot of dialogue.
Yeah, the only reason there's a Russian translation is because we have some very passionate Russian fans who were willing to do that work. Someone was also talking about doing Spanish awhile ago but that fell through.
Neither of us speak German well enough to do a translation ourselves, so we'd need someone else to get that done. If anyone ever does, I'd be happy to add in the code.
eilistraes song adds an item that needs adamantine dust to make a dagger from cromwell.. could you add 1 adamantine dust in one container after leaving underdark? (theres this in between room where drow and elves are fighting, would kinda make sense to be on a drow close to the entrance)
since viconia bartered with the demon lord i cannot create the dust myself anymore

Actually I don't know how to add stuff to containers. I avoided doing throughout the entire mod. But are you familiar with the Baldur's Gate Cheat Console?
You can use it to add items. The item code for Adamantine Dust is DWDUST. If you can't figure it out let us know and we can walk you through it. It's been a while since I've used it, but I'm sure with the Wiki I could remember it again.
yeah i cheated myself one but it would be nicer to have it somewhere in the game. hmm. can you add one to a shop easily?
and is there a console command to spawn terl? ive waited a loooong time in chapter 6 now for some reason and i might have missed his spawn because i did the whole "nwn in bg2" before going back to athkatla. (looking for him to activate the rose bouqet exp quest)

Have you killed the
leader of the shadow thieves
yet? The think the timer only starts after he's dead.
Global("_bRoseClara","GLOBAL",1) //So you had their interaction
Dead("aran")
!Dead("MurdGirl")
IsValidForPartyDialog("_bClara")
!Global("Chapter","GLOBAL",%bg2_chapter_4%) //Chapter 4 (this is the code the buffer evaluates)
!Global("Chapter","GLOBAL",%bg2_chapter_5%) //Chapter 5
So Aran needs to be dead. Rose needs to be alive. Clara needs to be able to talk. And it needs to not be chapter 4 or 5.
some weird interaction: i dualed clara very late and she kept those 2 pips in short sword and katana as a mage. at the moment she got her thief levels back, those 2 turned into 4
All of Clara's kit changing isn't anything complex that we coded. We just used the command: "Change Class" which is part of the game. So it works however it works. People have recorded all kinds of weird things happening.
Though this isn't that, this is dual-classing which is something else entirely. I think in the normal game you can't even dual-class kits, so you must have some other mod that allows that.
you surely can dual class out of kits, you just cant dual class to kits in the basegame.
i didnt kill the shadow thieves leader, i forgot i had to for the quest, thx!
about the adamantine dust: when i entered ToB all my adamantine armor got turned into dust again dont know if its one of my companions again, im going with edwin, imoen, haer dalis, clara and rasaad. picked up sarevok after that, im not really sure when exactly that happened but i think it was the moment i officially entered "tob areas", meaning after defeating irenicus

If I'm remembering correctly that's thanks to some ToB code added into the Enhanced Edition. I'm not sure what purpose the code serves and I can't figure out how to get around it. As soon as you enter ToB it makes all adamantine weapons turn to dust.
So for story purposes we'll just believe that the Demon's magic was strong enough to preserve your adamantine weapons and armor for a while, but not indefinitely. Once you hit ToB you'll have to put on the old equipment. Luckily by the time you get to ToB you have access to pretty good stuff.
plotwise it doesnt really make sense to kill aran in chapter 6.. hes an ally, if you dont pick up mazzy its not even suggested that this is a viable option.. (personal feedback )

True. There's a quest for it from one of the other mods (I think someone in the government building gives it to you), but other than that there's no main game plot reason to. I just have you kill the Shadow Thieves because they're horrible (fictional) people and deserve to die . So if you want the Clara quest you gotta wipe 'em out.
For Rose Bouquet in particular you have to kill the Shadow Thieves to advance her quest because they own her (and most of the other prostitutes) so she can't be free to pursue another occupation until they're all dead. I suppose that we could've made it so you could buy her freedom, I guess, but I decided to go with wholesale slaughter instead.
> plotwise it doesnt really make sense to kill aran in chapter 6.. hes an ally
Wasn't he deceitful though? I don't think it can be reasoned that the shadow thieves were all good citizens.
Even aside from this, in regards to alignment, any evil/selfish group could decide to switch side for greed,
power or just because they enjoy seeing suffering. I don't think it can be seen as stringent and restrictive;
one can find possible reasons for many plot continuations.
