Caster level when casting from scrolls

When spells are cast from scrolls, what level does the caster count as?

If Garrick at level 1 uses a magic missile scroll, it fires off several missiles so it clearly doesn't simply use the level of the character using the scroll.

The scroll item's "Cast Spell" effect has a caster level attached to it. So, it can depend on the scroll item. In BG1, the caster level of scrolls is usually set to 6. In BG2, the caster level is generally set to 10.

In D&D, it is the level of the scriber of the scroll that matters, not the reader. In the AD&D 2nd Edition DMG, a rule is suggested to fix the caster level to one more than that required to cast the spell, with a minimum level of 6. EDIT: Tweaks Anthology has a mod that changes the caster level for scrolls to "0", which makes the game use the character's caster level.

So what if you're not a caster, like a Thief?

Caster level = 1, AFAIK.

Yeah, if you have no arcane caster levels, the spell will be cast at minimum level. Not a great mod if you like to rely on Use Any Item. Personally, I use the PnP mod mentioned above.
