Vial of Mysterious liquid and Tainted Ore in 2.5 (Spoilers)

Is Thalantyr the mage not involved in the quest anymore? I know in the Unfinished Business version he was part of the quest.

    I was playing last night and I'm not certain but I think that Thalantyr just told me to take it to the Thunderhammer Smithy to be identified.

    Brought the vial to Mayor Ghastkill in Nashkell who told me to take it to Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost. Taerom the smith tells me to return in a few days. I come back and the quest ends. No mention of the wizard Thalantyr. I went to High Hedge to talk to the man himself and he just whines about living in a pissant town. I'm just wondering if this is the way Beamdog's version is intended to work so the completist in me can check this off.

    So I guess this is not the same as Unfinished Business.

    It also doesn't solve the problem of the tainted ore being useless. Unfinished Business reportedly had a use for both items. They both gave XP.
