If there's a mod that puts him in an early accessible area of the game and turns off his leave party trigger if the mines aren't flooded, then I would pick him up.
Gotta say, I was never a big fan of Viconia, I have played several PC clerics though, so I rarely need to take a cleric, when I do I go with either Yeslick or Branwen.

You can come with 5 NPC and add him as you go down (since he's on the way to the deeps)
otherwise, you can add him to your party (by removing temporarily a NPC from your team) and bring him back outside, then kick him out and going down again.
just a bit of extra fun... I currently have a 'zerker -> cleric main, along Shar-Teel as fighter -> thief for my backstabbing needs, and a nice understanding of BGEE equipment, aka: the fact that you can only equip 2 characters properly as front liners... 2 full plates (okay, a third is in Durlag's Tower), 2 +1 AC helmets, 2 boots of speed, 2 +2 prot. items, 2 golder girdles, 2 gauntlets of weapon expertise, and there just isn't enough good melee weapons for two fighter/clerics to go around anyway, but you need two of 'em to put the pieces of your mates back together... so, long story short:
*enter the slinger Yeslick.*
in BGEE (like the original) slings receive bonus damage from STR, which, properly utilized, can make 'em godlike (as in Composite Longbow godlike). basically, give our dearest Yeslick a gauntlets of dex, along with Kiel's Buckler, raising his DEX to *19* (+3 thac0), a nice sling +3 with bullets +2, and top the whole thing of with the 19 STR belt.
congratulations, you just got your very own slinging deathmachine, who does an average of 17,5 damage (aka more kick than he could do *in melee*), and attacks a nice 2 times/round come lvl 7, casually outdamaging *Coran* (though with a suckier thac0, because Coran is OP).
I'm always a big fan of Yeslik. In games where I know I'll want him for my party I make a pretty fast bee-line for the mines, then go back for some more leisurely exploration. I generally run good aligned parties, so he fits right in. I don't find his lower level a problem, he will level up fairly quickly with a stronger party. And even when I go slow in the south after getting him, he's not too weak to survive that, and he'll often catch up by the time I'm done exploring. And he'll be plenty strong by the time I get to Durlag's Tower... The main reason I sometimes skip him is because I often have a PC cleric already.
Yeslick and Quayle are the best clerics in the game, mechanically- both giving up 2 spells compared to the "pure" clerics in return for 7 levels in another useful class in BG1, making them much more powerful.
Yeslick is thus actually the best cleric in the game because Yeslick is cool and Quayle is too annoying for any amount of power to save him.
People don't really dismiss him per say...you just don't get him till ....about 3/4 the way through the game, while Vicky can be acquired immediately. And by that point some people have become attached to their party.
No reason to have multiple primary spellcasters? I don't even think it's possible to have enough primary spellcasters.
More Clerics means more Animate Deads, more Power Word Lay There and Take Its, more Silence 15 ft Radius and more Holds, Dominates, Summons and buffs, glorious glorious buffs. Unlike Mages there's no competition for scrolls, so more clerics always means more spells that you can spam, including some of the most powerful spells for BG.
@Tinter - One day Tiax shall be included in the multiclass cleric list!
@pantalion - Cleric/ Thief has much worse synergy than Mage or Fighter- sad weapon selection, not great for the combat elements of thief. He is still third though- 8 levels of thief > 1 level of cleric; poor Branwen and Viconia!
Yeslick is great because you get a nearly full primary spell caster without losing a warrior slot- he is excellent at both. BG1 is right in the golden period for multiclasses.
It does help that staves are the best BS weapons in both games though (which is why I wonder why you say they don't help the thief's melee...thieves suck in straight melee, though being able to hit fighter thac0 levels and easily acquire 25 str makes them even better in direct melee then a straight thief is), and can easily put out BS numbers that surpass even a Kensief, due to easily hitting 25 str and a myriad of other buffs that make them equal or better then a fighter, save in number of raw attacks, which as top class backstabber, you don't really need.
Really the only legitimate gripe about T/C is the crappy interface...it pushes their thief skill icon into the special abilities tab....if we had the modular interface from IWD2, even that wouldn't be an issue.
I'm confused by the topic. Everything I've ever read was that Yeslick is the best cleric in the game (I think Viconia love is 99% sultriness/1% the 19 DEX). The downside to him is that you run into him so late in the game that your party is probably already set.

But in Bg1, she's just as random as any other NPC - banter speaking.

Maybe I'll give her a go next time, cleric/mage is supposed to be really powerful after all.
Aerie "Your hair looks really pretty in that light Jaheira.."
Bring on the sickbags!
I'm honestly rather surprised.

have fun! [evil laughter]

Besides, Zdenka Podkapova is a goddess in my book.... 'Nuff said.

This is Zdeňka Podkapová:
Yeslick is not.
