C/T can be a great backstabber, sure. Tiax, not quite as much, and isn't going to be getting 25 strength regularly at BG1 levels. More likely seems 20 as standard buffed? I guess with that and sanctuary he can do a reasonable job backstabbing, but still slightly behind F/T thac0 in BG1 (specialisation + higher enchantment weapons).
But, given his only other function is effectively back rank casting I don't consider this good synergy; I like backstabbers in the Montaron style who can stay out or hit and run as the situation demands. Running around invisible isn't an optimal thing for you to be doing when you are supposed to be my main cleric.
But still, thats why I would put him third... in BG1 levels, multiclass = good character almost by default.
I'm confused by the topic. Everything I've ever read was that Yeslick is the best cleric in the game (I think Viconia love is 49% sultriness/1% the 19 DEX). The downside to him is that you run into him so late in the game that your party is probably already set.
21 str actually (+4 hit, +9 damage) ...give him the 19 str belt, and then cast DUHM. It gives +2 str/dex/con under the current xp cap. Besides...clerics aren't active healers...DnD doesn't work that way, they patch people up after the fight or under dire circumstances (and thus being close to the front line is actually beneficial since front liners are the most likely to encounter trouble..and being stealthed until they chunk someone keeps them out of harms way. That's a 57-72 damage BS by the way, using the staff of striking, or you could use the staff mace (2d4+2) or staff spear (1d8+3) for a little bit less (they're both considered staves and usable by single class thieves without UAI and thus can backstab).
There is no 19 strength belt in BG1- its either potions or gauntlets of ogre strength (18/00), AFAIK, then DUHM- hence 20. Out of harms way... until they've made the backstab, when I will need Tiax to either use a potion, pass stealth or get off a sanctuary, which is fine to an extent but like I said- not as appealing as Montaron F/T types for my backstabbing.
I also play with SCS, which means stoneskins ahoy, which makes backstabs less appealing as a strategy- but thats install specific.

Belt of Mighty Fists, BG:EE sidequest reward. 19 Strength, 6 Intelligence.
Cursed Girdle of Hill Giant Strength: Big-Fisted Belt A fist-shaped brass buckle secures this belt of thick elk hide. The old bloodstains on the leather hint at unspeakable carnage, but the misspelled graffiti scratched into its surface suggests that the girdle's former owners were none too bright.
STATISTICS:
Equipped abilities: – Strength: 19 – Intelligence: 6 – May only be removed by a Remove Curse spell
Yeah I've played through BG a few times back in the day, but it wasn't until this playthrough that I actually used him. As others have said, you get him so late you typically have a party and cleric that works for you before even encountering him. I will say I've been pretty impressed with him. His voice kinda sucks, though.
I blame John Rhys Davies for upping the bar on dwarf portrayal. I'd expect a heavily bearded dwarf named "Yes Lick" to be a bit more lively.
@Astafas That is a great portrait for dwarves!!! The best I have seen so far (although I like a lot the original Yeslick portrait). Do you have the whole picture? I'd like to see also his armour/weapons.
Edit: Nevermind, I found the picture from Dragon Age - Origins.

Whoa. That is a mighty fine looking woman there. I'm having trouble resisting her magic (lol).
Also, Tiax needs more love. His summoned Ghast special is probably second or third best innate skill in the game.

Sad for her, really ;-)
