My guess is that the devs just "seeded" hints of stories to come in the dialogues of the new npc's, to be fully realized in the next game. BG1 has never had a lot of dialogue or character development, without the BG NPC Project mod.
I appreciate all the voice acting, very well done, in what few dialogues we have here.
It looks to me like their efforts on the first go-around were heavily focused on coding, graphical, and other tech issues, and not as much on artistic creativity. I would guess that, with the heavy-lifting of technical revision done, they will be able to spend a lot more of their human resources on art and writing, for BG2:EE.
Dorn is bisexual? Bizarre, he hasn't romance chatted my male char at all, maybe because he's aligned with Good. As for Rashaad, he's heterosexual, yes?

Yes, Rasaad is for Male-Female romances only, as far as I know.
Dorn is the bisexual one? Seriously? Omg that's great
I wasn't sure. Though charname saying "You're just my kind of blackguard" to Dorn was suspicious.
Sadly like all the other new NPCs Dorn has gone quiet too after I have told him that I am his friend. Now none of them speaks anymore which is sad, because exploring the new NPCs is the main reason I'm playing BG:EE right now.
Was that the romance-initiating one? I said "you're a worthy companion" since I thought that seemed more likely.
Yeah im stuck on "Somedays im suprised you let me tag along" kissy part...unless i piss her off and not get the kiss she hasent said anything since then......and i can just talk to her to do this convo over and over
Have you gone to the center of Baldur's Gate area, northwest of the Ducal Palace and south of the Temple of Helm and met her friend?

I've done this but then it just loops the tag along convo over and over until i dismiss her in a mean way so i just skipped her friend.
How does the Dorn romance start exactly? (And does it work in a way that wouldn't make typical heterosexual males squeamish about "gays coming onto you" like in Mass Effect? [Lol]).
@Shandyr :O nothing until chapter 7? damn... either it's a bug or that's it. i think that's it for the starter romance.
i chose option 3. the same thing happened, although i'm going now to bandits camp (i did a lot of cleaning in wilderness areas). i noticed dorn hasn't commented on the reputation even once, while other companions seem to be very vocal (don't know about neera and rasaad yet). anybody else got that problem?
thank you for clarifying this appreciate it. i guess if there has been any bugs they will be soon updated and it makes sense that this flirt is it, since it's supposed to be only the start up. also, dorn has been surprisingly enjoyable as a character, i had least expectation for him. i guess i'm looking forward to bg2:ee then.
I've been lurking for more Dorn info forever, so figured I might as well try and help out by posting what very little I've figured out myself.
Does anybody know what all of Dorn's global variables mean? I'm trying to figure out through Shadowkeeper if his romance is active or not, but all the variables labeled "romance" have big strings of numbers on them, more like timers than flags. And yet no matter how long I wait in game or in real time the numbers themselves stay static unless there's another talk/quest event. Hmm
So far only thing I know for sure is I have a save where I picked line #3, and his variables look like this:
In the second set of numbers, I've played all the way through Candlekeep revisited, and only had one talk that fired when I entered Baldur's Gate the first time. No mention of anything romance related, just a bit about his past (that I already figured out from his quest oddly enough...yet all the reactions made it seem like the first time I heard that info.)
Edited for more info/thoughts from me. The supposed "timers" (which I added above) behave more like the romance type variables I'm used to; i.e the numbers are static and don't change until a new talk/quest event. All these numbers stay exactly the same no matter how long I wait around/rest/wander/etc.
Oh thank goodness, some Dorn romance chat! I have been lurking, reading, googling, everything in effort to find out if my Dorn (and the new characters in general) are bugged in my current save or if they're done chatting with me or what.
I am revisiting Candlekeep as well, and haven't had any of them talk to me in ages. I received Dorn's tale of his past and betrayal, but nothing during his entire adventure/quest/dialogues ever jumped out at me as being Romance (proto-romance or otherwise). I have a hard time believing that the conversation where you compliment him/boost his self-esteem (you're my kind of blackguard/don't ever change/etc) is the only dialogue we get. It doesn't come across as romance-y much at all, unless you really are trying to look for it. It passes too easily as platonic friendship dialogue, in all choices, imo. As if Dorn is trying to come to grips with the prospect that he finally has a friend or can allow himself to trust someone after all that garbage he went through. I don't really see romance in it.
Now if there was a follow up dialogue (or two) where it goes deeper into the waters of proto-romance intiaition, letting Charname in, or giving a 'acknowledging budding feelings, but we'll see where this adventure takes us...' to be continued type of segue, then it'd make more sense to me. Otherwise... it's just pretty much him chatting about murder, vengeance, and blood and you going, 'Hey, you're cool,' and it all ending there.
I was also beginning to worry that maybe having Neera in my party messed romance flags. She got a little flirty, and my Charname is cordial and nice but not trying to lead her on at all. Hopefully that doesn't translate into Nice = Romance and shunt off other available options (aka Dorn).
@Shandyr I picked the romance-looking option in my last game, and it's going exactly the same as my other one; the only other talks that I've had after that have no mention of any "romance" in them.
On another note, am I the only one who reloaded a save right before that talk over and over just to see everyone's reactions when I "sold them out" to Dorn?
Dorn: What others say about me?! Who dares gossip about me? Aramina: It was Imoen. Imoen: Tell him you're joking, Aramina! What? I didn't- I never- Dorn: Die, you simpering child!
Aramina: It was Neera. Neera: I do not understand this jest. I said noth- Dorn: Die, sorceress! (I'm the sorceress in the team...Neera's just a wild mage -_- Get your terminology right!)
Aramina: It was Viconia. Viconia: Why do you point the finger at me? I never- Dorn: Die, drow!
Aww, poor Immie sounded like she was about to run for the hills.
Yes, I'm sadistic like that. Watching my party hack each other to death is hilarious...well, more like Dorn hacking my party to death, but still. I'm annoyed Ajantis and Dorn never actually fight in my game.
EDIT: Just found something I never noticed about that scene. I'm sure everybody else who picked the option saw it, but
his comments (and potentially charname's) after he kills the offender are awesome

@Mythdracon Yes, Rasaad does, and Dorn is bisexual.

Added spoiler tag. -Jalily
