Dwarf only Run, NEED NPC's!!

KhrondorKhrondor Member Posts: 58
So I'm Looking to do a Dwarf only run. I will play with the Following.

* No mods, except NPC Dwarf's
* Insane Rules

BGEE:

Me: Fighter Thief (no sure if I'll multi or Dual), need a thief though.
Kagain: Fighter
Yeslick: Fighter/Cleric
Miodre: Dwarven Defender Mod from https://www.gibberlings3.net/mods/npcs/glam-npc-pack/

BG2EE/TOB:

Me: Still fighter Thief
Korgan: Fighter
Yeslick: Mod from https://www.spellholdstudios.net/ie/yeslick/ same NPC as BGEE or might try the Kit
Dvaradime: FMT Mod https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/87161/mod-dvaradime-npc-for-bg2ee

I looked around, any other Dwarfs out there? Especially for BGEE. I know I can 4 man it easy enough, but would love a party of 6. Probably wont be doing SOD since I think it would be a solo/multi only game. Unless there are Dwarfs for SOD.

Will multiplayer in last 2 if necessary, probably one Swashbuckler and not sure about the other. Suggestions?

Thanks

Better multiclass; otherwise it will take you forever to get thief abilities. Unless you create your own dwarven swashbuckler. You will have thiref abilities from the start, and still not be too terrible in combat. You already have 3 other dwarves with fighter abilities to man the front line.

Helga from Skitias for both 1&2. Breagar also for both,

If you're not modding any rules, a multiclass is the only way to have a fighter/thief - only humans are allowed to dual-class. And the only way to have any sort of arcane power is an NPC that stretches the rules.

I wouldn't be surprised if you can find some dwarven thief NPCs out there; they are pretty good at it despite their DEX penalty.

I'm fairly sure there are no other NPC Dwarven options other than those already suggested, unless you count "temporary" NPCs added by DSOTSC, Shadows Over Soubar or the Drizzt Saga which are not fully formed NPCs and not recommended for your purposes.

As megrimlock suggested, Helga and Breager are excellent choices for this since they have full storylines throughout the entire saga. It will leave your party highly melee oriented though, with no thief support other than your PC and no mage support until Dvaradime in BG2, who as a triple class will not get the full range of spells needed for an easier BG2 + TOB run.

Thx for all the Suggestions, Ya I went multiclass Fighter/Thief. So far Im running:

    BGEE:

Me: Fighter/Thief Multi [Scimitar, dual weild]
    Kagain: Fighter [Xbow]
    Miodre: Dwarven Defender [Warhammer]
Helga: Fighter/Cleric [Stupifier Mace] (I has the option for straight cleric or multiclass with Fighter)
Breagar : Fighter with Blacksmith kit. [Axes]

Haven't got to Yeslick yet, but hopefully he can do Flails/Slings. Cant remember his starting Proficiency points.

Actually working great for BG1 so far. Miodre is a beast and Helga is very well written. Breagar has a bug where his name wont display and cant add points in axes anymore, everthough the Kit says i can GM in Axes. I'll message the author.

Most are getting Beefiest Plate, Helm, +1 ring, shield, and their weapon.

Very fun with no identify, no Protection from Petrification, Fireball clear, all the good stuff I'm used to.

Kinda like the Race theme, after this run need to try a non Human/Elf race only again. Need 6 Companions for it though, I will look around at Gnomes, Halflings, Half Orc options. Would Love to Do Drow, Hopefully someday someone can make a Baeloth option for BG2 and Minthara (Drow Paladin) from BG3 for BG1 and BG2.

Thx again for all the Help.

There is now a mod for Baeloth in BG2, was released earlier this year and is on github at https://github.com/dark0dave/BaeBG2. You could get close to an all Drow party with some mix and matching: Viconia and Baeloth entire run, Vynd and K'Vel for BG1, Xulaye, Pai'Na and Solaufein for BG2.

Your topic made me think of other interesting "theme" NPC groups, like an all undead group for BG2: Will O Wisp. Neh'taniel, Jaxon, Xzele, Hexxat, Miriam, or an all non-humanoid party: Verr'Sza, Bristlelick, Afaaq, Rjali, Afu-Zuuvi, Varshoon, Wilson, Haiss, Grey, etc.

.....I am not sure ypu can do Throne of Bhaal with zero mage skills whatsoever. The best suggestion I can make it to grab a couple bags of holding, and maybe scroll and potion cases, and keep every scroll and wand you come across. If you have the cash, buy the highest level ones. As soon as one of your thief types gets their first HLA, make it Use Any Item. That will permit you to use all those accumulated scrolls, wands and other magical paraphanlia. Still sounds pretty iffy, but maybe you like the challenge. If you have Korgan, his berserker abilities make him immune to most status effects. Mind you, his personal quest line in SoA is pretty unhinged; hope you can deal with it.
.....You might consider stretching your rules a bit amd rectuitng Jan Jannsen. Yeah, I know, gnomes aren't dwarves, but they ARE pretty short. Slap a fake beard on him and he might be able to pass for a dwarf. You could have a ceremony dubbing hin an honorary dwarf.

    >>"theme" NPC groups, "<<
My all evil dream team kicks good butt! MC (Half orc berserker), Dorn, Viconia, Sarevok, Hexxat and Edwin. Mind you, Dorn's quest (aka Dorn's Bloody Path) is particularly vile. Lawful good enforcers seek us out to enact justice, but end up meat bags on the floor. Note that Dorn and Hexxat are both immune to level drain, while Hexxat is immune to poison as well.
.....Of course, there are consequences. In Tob, the Planatar of Justice (which cannot be killed) wants to drag Dorn off to Heaven (aka Elysium) yo face judgement. Needless to say, this can be quite a challenge.

You can. I've done the whole series with no arcane or divine spellcasting. Including the difficulty-increasing SCS mod. Items and innate abilities unrestricted.
There's one sidequest - Neera's in ToB - that requires you to cast an arcane spell, though you can do it out of combat for no impact. Aside from that (which I allowed an exception for), there were only two optional challenges I backed down from. Everything else was solvable.

I did have bards in both my BG1 and BG2 parties. They wore armor, they sang and occasionally used wands, and they didn't memorize spells.

I have solo'ed BG2/TOB with a Fighter/ Thief so ya UAI for sure. I do have the FMT guy also, so Im not woried.

UPDATE: Another NPC to add, looks like a new one, first page of Mods section. https://forums.beamdog.com/discussion/88693/mod-morg-npc-lawful-evil-duergar-fighter-necromancer#latest

WOW, this guy is great, well designed and perfect for my party. His background supports his Mage part for a Dwarf.

I was 5 manning it, so i added it and picked him up on the way to Yeslick (The new NPC is on first Cloakwood map)

Wow, great mod, has items that arent to overbalanced, the character has voice sound, battle to get him was perfect for my 40k exp party, has a small new dungeon he's in and he fits my party perfectly.

Morg: Duegar Fighter/Necro multi. Low dex but has Invisibility as special ability. Check it out, highly recommended.

So now the question, who to Drop?? leaning Kaigain or Yeslick. More towards Kaigain cause he doesnt get along with Yeslick. plus ive played them both many times. Thing is Kagain is like 40% of the party damage with 4 pips in xbows, don't need him to tank with the other NPC's. I wish one of these guys had high DEX, only one pair of gloves for that. Morg is very low, can use a shield though.

    BGEE:

Me: Fighter/Thief Multi [Scimitar, dual weild]
    Kagain: Fighter [Xbow, Axe]
    Miodre: Dwarven Defender [Warhammer]
Helga: Fighter/Cleric [Stupifier Mace, Flail, will get Sling ASAP] (I has the option for straight cleric or multiclass with Fighter)
Breagar : Fighter with Blacksmith kit. [Axes]
Yeslick: Fighter/Cleric [Sling, Warhammer, will get Flail ASAP]
Morg: Fighter/Necro Multi. [Xbow, Axe, Flail]

Thoughs? (I'm keeping Miodre, Morg and Helga. They have no bugs so far and fit my party)

I didn't know Morg, thank you for the foundling.

I'm also doing a shorty run in BGEE, with halflings and gnomes too : Breagar, Kagain then Yeslick, GW Horn of Yondalla (multiclass ranger / cleric from DoF), Littlun, Aura and Quayle.

You could get close to an all Drow party with some mix and matching: Viconia and Baeloth entire run, Vynd and K'Vel for BG1, Xulaye, Pai'Na and Solaufein for BG2.

There's also Yasraena for BG2, and (different) versions of Drizzt for both if you install both Drizzt Saga and Region of Terror.
