Game won't launch in 1.79

After the update, literally nothing happens when I launch the game from the desktop shortcut or through the "PLAY" button in the Steam app. When I click on nwmain.exe I get the dreaded "0xc000007b" error box. But the really weird thing is that the game launches just fine if I roll back to build8186 or oldstable I can launch the game just fine; the obvious issues being that I can't access the new content if I do that (nor my favorite PW since they've already upgraded to 1.79).

I found an error log dated 12/2 with just the following entry:
Names Differ: Sky_001
SSkyn_001

So far, I've restarted my machine (WIN 10) a number of times, uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times, and even renamed all old NWN folders (in both SteamApps and Documents) so they would be "invisible" on a new install, validated my files through the Steam app, and still nothing.

Any tech-savvy folks here with advice on how to get around this?

    Please follow these steps:

    https://beamdog.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/206729903--Steam-Windows-Game-Says-It-Is-Launching-But-Then-Nothing-Happens

Remove the Documents/Neverwinter Nights folder and let the game create it anew

Install (currently missing vcrruntime140.dll file) manually from here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads and try again.

nwmain.exe might be using a 32 bit OpenAL library. Delete the openal of the steam directory. Install OpenAL from http://www.openal.org/downloads/

    Thanks for the reply, JuliusBorisov!

Here are my responses to your suggestions, in order. :)

*When I go to the DEP tab and click "add", where do I find the actual 64-bit nwn executable? The only "nwmain.exe" file I've found is under the bin>win32 folder, but I have a 64-bit computer so I'm a bit confused. I tried adding that file into the DEP exceptions but got an error that "You cannot set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables". Not sure what else to do...?

*I already removed the Documents>Neverwinter Nights folder as well as the Steam>steamapps>common>Neverwinter Nights folder before running a new install.

*When I go to the link you provided, I don't see anything for "vcrruntime140.dll" but I do see
    x86: vc_redist.x86.exe

    x64: vc_redist.x64.exe

    ARM64: vc_redist.arm64.exe
Not being super tech-savvy, I'm not sure which one (if any) or all of these I need.

*I don't have an "openal" in my Steam directory. I'm not sure how to follow your direction on this step.

I'm confused (clearly). Please help. =)

The directory is misnamed. the 64 bit binary is the one he is looking at in the win32 dir

You need to install vcredist64, not the arm one.

The openal file is in Neverwinter Nights/bin/win32

That did the trick. Thanks Julius!

Of course, now I can't run NWSync without everything crashing. And registration seems to be disabled at the website it points to. Ugh...

I had already deleted the Documents>Neverwinter Nights folder before I came here. After getting the clarification from you (thanks, btw!!!) I deleted nwmain.exe from bin>win32, installed the vcredist64 file and the OpenAL library, then restarted my computer. After that, I launched Steam and ran file verification, which noticed the missing nwmain.exe and recreated it. Those steps seemed to do the trick. Except for the new NWSync issue, of course. ;)

Do you use non-ascii characters in the path to Documens/Neverwinter Nights/nwsync?

If yes, this is what you should do:
edit nwn.ini and change the [Alias] section, and point NWSYNC= somewhere simpler that is plain ascii letters

After = put any path that includes only ascii characters.

There was no nwsync folder in my Documents/Neverwinter Nights. I created it, but the game still crashes when I try to run NWSync. There are no non-ascii characters in the path.
    Here's the path:
    C:\Users\me\Documents\Neverwinter Nights
    And here's what's in my nwn.ini:
    NWSYNC=C:\Users\me\Documents\Neverwinter Nights\nwsync

We need the .dmp file that was created and and the game logfiles (Documents/NWN/log directories)

    It's all good -- I got it working. =)
    Thanks for all the help!

So what did you do to resolve the crash when you try to run NWSync. Asking to understand if there is still a problem left.

A weird thing happened to me after the update, I only noticed now... Rolgan's head is on a pike outside the Temple of Tyr, although I won the trial and Rolgan himself is standing around, reasonably alive, at Beorunna's well.
    A bit creepy, actually.

Remove the Documents/Neverwinter Nights folder and let the game create it anew

the GOG installer does not create a folder
    Documents/Neverwinter Nights

    and
nwmain.exe might be using a 32 bit OpenAL library. Delete the openal of the steam directory. Install OpenAL from
    http://www.openal.org/downloads/

    link - not work

Found a new version of OpenAL32.dll-reinstalled in the system, and copied OpenAL32.dll to the "bin\win32" folder

    the game finally started

I followed all these steps, i removed the documents folder, installed cvruntime140.dll and deleted openal.dll and install new OpenAl from website. After i use verify games files, the steam didnt create a new document folder and instead created OpenAl32.dll again in Neverwinter Nights/bin/win32 directory

So far i am still unable to run the game. Also i find out that when i try betas versions 8186 and 8187 the game works fine, but doenst work with any other builds there
